  • Anthony wanted a moon watch, and George wanted to sell his moon watch... Richard just put two and two together.
    In this roundtable discussion, we discuss the Bulova Lunar Pilot as well as the Omega Speedmaster Professional. We delve deeper into why Bulova is a better option for people who love space watches but can't afford Omega's excessive prices.
    Do you have a moon watch in your collection? If so, which one and why?

    I gave my son this exact version for his 40th birthday and as an employee of JPL, he's ecstatic.

    Just got myself this model, it’s so nice, currently on a 20mm seabrook steel band from watch gecko

    A great video and congrats on the new acquisition!
    I have the no date Lunar Pilot as well as an original Bulova Astronaut similar to those that went to the edge of space in the A12 OXCART. For those of us of a certain age, the 1960s space race remains a pivotal time in our development as adults.
    Cheers, mates.

    Congratulations Anthony on the new Moon Watch from Bulova. And thankyou George for selling it to Anthony. If a watch doesn't get the wrist time we should consider moving it on to someone who will give it wrist time. Sometimes that decision can be difficult with lager collections. Oddly I have my 1863 sapphire sandwich speedy on my wrist today that I've not worn for some weeks with recent medical procedures and surgeries getting in the way. It's like meeting one of my friends again after quite some time.

    I had my non date version bead blasted to look more like the original. I love this watch. You are lucky as well in that the case back on your watch aligns perfectly. Mine is off a bit.

    Another interesting fact is that the original was based on a Universal Geneve Space Compx. Bulova owned UG at the time and modified an existing watch for the Bulova prototype.

    The pictures/video doesn’t quite do this piece justice…I had the same reaction when I received my Lunar Pilot…better than expected! The dial through that crystal just pops, it almost feels like you can reach in and touch the hands and indices…almost 3 demential if you will.
    I am not a Quartz fan..however, I made an exception for this watch.

    The movement is NOT a tuning fork movement like what was in the capsules. It's quartz which is very very different. Just don't want anyone to get confused here.

    It's too big for me but if Bulova ever make the movement in this watch solar powered (surely a possible fix with all Citizen's expertise) I'd buy it anyway. Nothing like a private deal when both are happy. 😊

      I couldn’t disagree more with you. Bulova has a very long history of highly accurate and reliable movements, within some of the nicest designed timepieces, and a history of great service to the watchmaking industry and the United States as a whole. They’ve lost a bit of their appeal since they were bought by a huge conglomerate a long time ago, but they’re by no means overrated, or deserve any less respect/recognition than other big name watch brands. They’re by far one of the greatest watch brands in history, who’ve had an incredible impact on the industry.

      @@jasons5726 - The problem Bulova have is they make some great watches but a lot of shit as well. Their watch designs also constantly change. They remind me of a lower cost Breitling, who also can't seem to find a good design and just stick with it.
      For example, the Precisionist mechanism is super interesting and the sweep is gorgeous...like a low cost Grand Seiko Spring Drive. However, they've discontinued the Precisionist dress watches despite the fact that they were really classy.
      I've got an early Precisionist dress watch with rose gold PVD case, brown dial and brown leather strap. Everyone who sees it comments about how nice it looks despite it being a relatively cheap watch (£280) and yet it obviously didn't sell in the numbers required and was thus discontinued.
      Something needs to change at Bulova. The Lunar pilot is gorgeous though particularly in 43mm form.

    It’s so far from the original. It’s a quartz movement.

    • @darksideofthemoon7332
      @darksideofthemoon7332 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This is a high precision three pronged quartz movement. 262 kHz is 8 times more accurate than just any quartz movement. I’d take that accuracy over an inaccurate automatic anyday.

    • @jeremiahlee6335
      @jeremiahlee6335 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That not true. The most accurate movement is the. Otizen 1. The highest frequency time keeping on a watch is the spring drives. Also high frequency does not mean accuracy. The frequency needs to be stable as well.

    • @darksideofthemoon7332
      @darksideofthemoon7332 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@jeremiahlee6335 never said it was the most accurate. Read the statement of mine more closely. I said the 262 khz three pronged quartz movement was more accurate than just any run of the mill quartz movement. Plus, I’d put that movement up against any automatic out there for one year without adjustment and see how many measure the same accuracy for the same price.
