1k dollars and not fully high profile so the caps float like a GMMK pro LUL
gmmk pro best keyboard
+ useless features, and no one gives a f*ck about those features. Rama mute thing and point on spacebar
Hi, I love your videos.
Hello @ActualGlacier,
Production with CNC machines means we can adjust design, tolerances and solve issues on the fly. The floating keycap issue has been fixed, and the bottom of the keycaps will be sunken below (by 0.67mm) the top housing surface. Client units will not have this issue : )
This batch of review units were pre-production prototypes made in Q1 2023. Our mechanical design intended the base of the keycaps to be slightly (~0.17mm) below the top surface of the housing. However, during fastening of the bottom plate, the poron foam's actual compression ratio was less than ideal, so the silicone burger mounts were compressed more than intended, and this caused the internal top mount module to rise ~2mm proud.
@@artifactindustries sounds great, and I appreciate the transparency. as much as my first comment might suggest otherwise, I don't like seeing new products fail in this space. I wish your team all the success :)
Sounds like a 100 metal keyboard with foam in it. Nice!
What a x10 waste of money.
Yea it seems a very backwards move in an industry going in the other direction. Typical for this type of product and its intended customers.
My goodness, what a meme
this hobby is really going backwards in the highend sector
The logo on the front for that price is a crime.
looks like fkin filco
100%
I'm so glad that newcomers in the hobby are bombarded by a plethora of quality and feature-packed yet affordable keyboard offerings, which in effect reminds them that keyboards of this price point are purchased purely for novelty.
if you want an expensive keyboard for the novelty you buy a baion or keycult or something like that, you buy this keyboard if you are lobotomized
I typed out like 4 different responses but none could properly portray my feelings towards this board as well as OOF
This is a fail.
Also, please don't be like every other youtuber and say "yes this is a paid sponsored review, but my opinions are still honest." No, no they aren't. We all get it, get that money, but don't be deceitful about it. Just say it's a sponsored review. That's it.
It’s more obvious in a review from a TH-camr like Hipyo Tech lol. Still, it sucks to see this and I’m hoping paid reviews won’t become a regular thing on this channel. Too many keyboard content creators give in and create paid reviews.
"honest review" omegaLUL
Doesn't look good. Doesnt sound good. This aint it.
With the market being more and more competitive, this board looks like a joke tbh, 1000 for this ? No way.
I was thinking the same. You see this board and it cannot cost more than 500 bucks. Today's market's crazy. Wasted all that money going with 10 different manufacturers.
tbf only difference is tool-less stands and it costs extra 500$ than competitors?
no wonder they sponsored Taeha, in normal advertising way they would be bankrupt already
tbh its kinda sad he accepted the sponsorship after seeing the quality of the board for the price.
1000usd lol
I remember seeing alexotos' build, and it sounded awful then and it sounds awful now. There is no feasable way to justify this board with such an awful sound for 1000 dollars.
this is a disappointing review from taeha, doesn't feel honest. so much high praise for a mediocre keyboard at a ridiculous price
I really dont see where the value is. I am someone that has spent $1k+ on several keyboards, like the em8 or vertigo SE. Both of those keyboards have a ton of material, intricate machining, and expensive surface treatment. I dont doubt that this has more of a refined and feature rich design, its just not something that couldnt be made in a $500 package. Id honestly rather spend $620 and buy another Dolice just for the design and layout. This seems like a more refined MassDrop keyboard sold for 2x the price it shouldve been.
This is soo ugly, looks like a $25 Aliexpress board lmao
Produced a pretty biased review and failed to follow through on a giveaway. Pretty bad look
Is the giveaway a fake to get views on the video? Pretty bad look at this point
I remember this from keycon, and it looked interesting then but now that I have seen what it is it looks like a complete joke. For $1000 a custom keyboard sounding bad without foam is a huge disappointment. Combine that with that cheap amazon mechanical keyboard floating key aesthetic, this product looks entirely like an obscene cash grab. Add on to that a $1000 keyboard having LED hotspots has to be a joke right? Plus there is no soldered PCB option, and the PCB you can get is $79? What the hell is that?
While everything about custom keyboards is subjective, in my subjective opinion this looks like it is making a mockery of custom keyboard enthusiasts. It's like this was designed in 2021 when people really would buy anything, and they went with that mantra into 2024 releasing a product along the lines of "these suckers will buy anything!"
But I guess all the parts fitting together nicely means it's worth $1000.
For the price that led in the front should not have a hot spot..... Yikes.
This looks exactly the kind of product B&O people buy.
That's not a compliment.
Bang & Olufsen?
Has the giveaway happened? Not seeing anything on the Community page.
I wonder if the designer was a keyboard enthusiast or not
this is not it bruh. it has a ton of foolish mistakes that every enthusiast will notice and the ludicrous price point will completely filter out any entry level hobbyists
Im positive that two years ago enough idiots would’ve ordered one. Thankfully this shouldn’t sell a lot.
Thank you for the showcase. I’m confused by the inclusion of a premium screwdriver if the screws come with Loctite pre-applied. This essentially tells the builder that it should be built once and the screwdriver should never be used for this board again. This severely limits the possibility of rebuilding. Did they happen to tell you why they decided on pre-applying Loctite?
keyboard is ridiculous but that screwdriver looks fire 😭🔥
Oof. No keyboard review for a year and then this? Is that really the most interesting board to come out in all this time?
dirty board after some time due to streaks
tolerances - who give a f*ck about them? only artifact industries probably
ugly (imo) proportions with those feets
fking rama mute + burger mount with point under spacebar
floating caps like gmmk pro
front logo like on filco
ugly led on front which looks like moustache of alexotos
no brass? geistmaschine includes copper for this price bruh
low tolerances? gap between bezels of top case and bottom case look bigger then gap between my front teeths
wireless? zmk?
1000$?
A 1,000 USD keyboard that sounds like a Redragon, and doesn't even supports Stepped CapsLock, Split Right Shift and Split Backspace, despite their website saying it supports "Tsangan" layout. So they also don't even know how a Tsangan layout looks.
I like the fact that there are still newcomers trying new things, this is what creates controversy, discussion and eventually evolution. I hope just the best for the company but essentially hope to see more affordable but yet well designed keyboards from the makers. Thank you for the review as always Nathan
Hello Taeha!
I'd like to hear from designer who created this keyboard on some of my questions.
1. is these tolerance thing is the main selling point of this keyboard? if that so, jump to next question.
2. are those any of chance to loosen the tolerances because too many friction caused by the tighness/precision between each components?
From my personal opinion about question number two and the solution that Taeha told in the video is, adding lube to the feet connector or another parts isn't a solution, because i think some of us agreed with Norbauer presentation at KeyCon about three weeks ago who really determined to minimize the usage of lube for a keyboard parts (in that case a stabilizer), is the way to create a perfect keyboard, and i came to the conclusion that... adding lube to another keyboard parts besides a switch is a backwards evolution, and that's no good ma fren and it's probably affect some enviromental issues too which is Norbauer determination is leading somewhere good for sake of humanity. (damn that's too far i think)
Lastly is.... where is the design inspiration coming from? because when i see the design of front led, it's somewhat reminding me to my old friend macbook pro mid 2012.
At the end, I really want to hear the designer opinion about this keyboard....and the screw that cost about 100$? count me in
Hello @hoshinoakira1379!
Project LvL was a collaborative side project which began at the end of 2020. We wanted to create a clean and modern design that'd reflect our times, and to differentiate with what has been available on the market, we wanted to have a thin housing design, each component to be milled and/or turned from a single block of alloy. The structural component's material of choice would purely be 6061T6 aluminum, and the design intricacies will be how to apply various surface treatments on these monoblock parts to achieve a monochromatic and minimalistic design, and the interaction with light. We think aluminum and it's relevant processes (i.e. CNC, anodisation, beadblasting, diamond tool turning, laser engraving etc.) perfectly captures our era, and is also one of the only few automotive/aerospace material and method of manufacutring with environmental sustainability in mind.
We had 8 design gestures (concepts) at the time, and we chose LvL for the ability to adjust angles with a tooless quick release mechanism. The challenge to realize this mechanism with only using aluminum is quite challenging in retrospect.
1. You have 2 parts that needs to fit together that are of the same material (i.e. Same hardness). Usually, you'd use some elastomer or engineering plastic to buffer/absorb assembly tolerances, which incidentally, we also implemented by strategically applying a thin teflon sheet inside the cylinder stand.
2. You have to account for compound part tolerances; because there are 9 parts for the cylinder stand, iirc 4 of them will impact assembly tolerances, and then the housing with the forks/tabs that cannot be milled in a single operation on the CNC also has compound tolerances (i.e. needs to removed from the table and flipped).
3. The mechanical design must account for 4 axis of tolerance control (i.e. Z-axis, X-axis, Y-axis, and rotational C-axis with respect to Z-axis) to ensure no rattling once coupled
With the above, we needed to ensure 0.02~0.05mm final tolerance so that:
1. When inserting the housing forks/tabs into the cylinder feets will not cause interference. (i.e. stutter/stuck/not smooth)
2. No more tighter than 0.02mm tolerance as interference will become an issue
3. To complement point 3. previously
Honestly, we are very happy with how the mechanism turned out. The tactile feel, the aluminum scraping sound, and the "clink" sound when the 2 parts clicked in to place, and finally the fitment. It's a very raw and mechanical experience in our opinion. Applying lube was not the original intended design, but purely as a suggestion to those whom prefers otherwise.
We are so happy you had these questions for us @hoshinoakira1379 !
Love and peace to you man : )
LOL people really think they can do anything
We're waiting on an announcement of the two winners. 👀
Definitely doesn't feel like a 1000$ keyboard, but something entry-level along the 150-200$ price line.
That stuff with the torx screw driver was cringe. We're screwing a keyboard together, lets not kid ourselves with stuff like "the right amount of torq". Sad to see TT do "reviews" like this - wonder how much cash was exchanged for this video.
I'm not a fan of the two large circles, but the concept itself is cool. The finishing appears superfluous and is likely driving up the CNC machining time, ultimately increasing the price without adding much value in return imo.
sorry but
this is hobby slowly getting out of hand, you know
Noto taking design cues from Amazon cute cat keyboards was a bold choice.
I love the mickey mouse ears hahaha
No matter how precise the machining is. This aesthetics and sound (both bland) for the price is not it. I'd rather just go back and buy the Tofu 1.0 for $300 instead lol
Lol. 1000. I haven't finished the video. But I know that will not be worth it.
$1000 of garbage rectangle
$1000 and it's not even Grade 9 titanium?
yeah this aint it chief
Finally someone came up with a solution for the rampant over torquing of keyboard screws; now we can just get back to typing
Why are people so aaaangry 😂
I hope it was released at 1st of April. Was you paid for that video? 1000$ in 2024 for keyboard which doesn’t have different options of mounting, sounds just average, and looks straight like apple product of keyboards is a joke.
I mean I like the design a bit,but they totally are not keyboard guys. They are just some „artists” or „visioners” who wants crazy money for stuff they have no idea about. Like come on…Keychron Q1 in silver looks better, and quality of it is already very good. I understand that CNC molding etc is expensive and time consuming…but at the and, mostly we don’t look at it,we write on it and hear it…so come on…
this thing looks damn ass
$1,000 for that? lol
this keyboard industry’s is worse than the coffee enthusiasts. in the keyboard industry there’s a bucket load of grifters selling shitty products and this btw includes logitech.
Why the hell would you need a torque screwdriver for a keyboard, your not changing a car tire here. Also thread lock seriously, are you planning to put the keyboard on vibrating table. Honestly you don't need a torque screwdriver unless planning to build engine.
how is this video still up
rip keyboard hobbyist. 😂😂
Good thing I got a board I really like already and probably wont sink any more money.
the design looks too simple for a board to cost $1000 usd.
this is not it
nah still overrated and overpriced. I would never give more than 400$ for this type of keyboard and that is still a very expensive price
Excited for this! Looks awesome!
Entered 👍🏻👍🏻☺️
Damn I had no idea torque screwdrivers existed, that's so cool
The real frog tkl
1K usd for this? Goodluck to the seller and for any buyers. What a complete waste....
I wouldn't pay 100 bucks for this and 1000 looks like a missclick.
Not seeing much appeal with this offering even if it was 1/2 the price.
It was cool seeing this board in person at Keycon in Utah.
This is hilariously bad for a 1k keyboard. Embarassing
would assume this has very limited appeal at this price point, but given what you and other folks have said, I assume the cost of designing and prototyping this may actually mean that their charging $1K / unit for a small batch still gives them very little profit for their time, even if the raw material cost for a full aluminum board isn’t especially high.
Hi @ImOnMy116
You've hit the nail on the head man. To manufacture everything (including packaging) in Taiwan is an expensive operation. With low volume projects like LvL, manufacturing costs is extremely high. For example, all of the screws are custom made in low volume to enable a thin housing design aesthetic. Surveying of supply chain to ensure commitment to quality, fair costing and a 3 month delivery schedule is also costly. However, we believe the ability for us to be on site with our suppliers anytime is extremely important in making sure our clients receive our products at a very high quality standard, and in the shortest amount of time. A lot of effort and resources has been invested, and is continuing to be invested to make sure of this.
@@artifactindustriesdefinitely respect the commitment to quality even if it limits the broader appeal! Wish you all the best with the GB and any future endeavors!
@@ImOnMy116 Thank you for the encouragement! Have a great one mate ✌️
Who mixed the intro song? I love it everytime i hear it!
How much did you get paid to say revived cone feet lol
i touched it, it's naice
I swear they sold like 3 of them
I don't want it, even if there's a giveaway.
It's a $1000 drop ctrl
Hey Taeha, really love the channel. I bought my first mechanical keyboard last year and built my first PC as well. For some reason building the keyboard seems really daunting and overwhelming and I still haven't done it. Maybe you could recommend or make a really basic step-by-step video. Keep up the good work 😊
No thanks LOL. I'd rather purchase Matrix Lab boards with that kind of money.
P.S I forgot to mention that I understand how design, availability, operating costs, etc. affects the overall price. But I for one will always go for the better option at the end of the day. This is their first board and I hope the prices get lower as they claim more market share but its going to be difficult given the current trends in the hobby. We'll just see.
Dead on arrival. There's no way, given the current state of the hobby, people would spend $1000 on a no name brand tkl with a low profile case.
Dude i was expecting singa, KC caliber but this is sub premium sound profile, hard pass on the trash board. And they have the balls to charge 1k lmao
As a keyboard Enthusiast that build and owned like a hundred of keyboard , i get it But the $1000usd price tag is somewhat not but most of keyboard community and Enthusiast like me will be out even if we could’ve afford. It felt like we going to pay for the futuristic design ( not so sure ) and the name of the company/brand also the nothing special screw driver (hope there is).A good example on this is Angry Miao you can see why their keyboard price is set on the high level because its obviously in your face total package and 10x way different into other keyboard company players. But good luck and hope it will succeed 🙏😇🙏.
Agree with the other comments about the logo on the front. That's a bummer, but the general aesthetic seems like it would complement mac-pro setups extremely well. I kind of wish the feet were functional. It really does seem like the "apple" of custom mechs
Part of me thinks the cost of this board went into working with a big design firm and prototyping. This board looks realllly cool imo. But I can’t just see myself choosing this because the sound just doesn’t hit for me
Probably not the best time to have this video up as whether we or you like it or not, this hobby is currently mostly about min-maxing value and what you get for the price. Although that screw driver is a great addition though, got me thinking about looking to have a torque-limiting screw driver set now.
Oof. That is... not a great deal.
So a $100 keeb with a $800 screwdriver? What an epic fail in the industry 😂
yo what mic do u use in your other videos? not in this one but the big one that you sometimes hold like a big silver microphone. PLEASE it looks pretty i want it.
It's a shame that such a premium keyboard doesn't support Stepped Caps Lock
big oof
cool
Breaking into the keyboard hobby:
No one: lets debut a bad sounding 1k keyboard without a carrying case
Idiots
very disappointing
Meanwhile, more and more screw less designs for dor less than 200
every time I see so many rings, it reminds me of photos of avulsed fingers
looks good but it needs foam at 1k is not the wave Foam Bad L Foam
How are the white keycaps that you use on that keyboard (with sublegends) called? Ty!
This is some pretentious shit right here.
get out of here 😂
Someone shake Invis and tell him to run Igris already
I definitely didn’t just buy a sloky tool set just now.
this keyboard is so outdated already by today's standards.
yeeeeeah... Gonna stay with my gmk87 from aliexpress
buy screwdriver, not the keyboard? yes?
so bad that there wasnt a sound review without foam
