The treasury is a collection of jewels from the early 16th to 20th century, of which, only some of the jewels date back to the Safavid era (early 1500s.)
The Ottomans looted the treasury after they won a war against Shah Ismael (Ismail) of Safavid Dynasty in 1514. Then the Afghans attacked Persia in 1719, and again, the treasury was looted.
The jewels taken by the Ottomans were never recovered, but Nader Shah of the Afsharid Dynasty (1736-47) not only recaptured Afghanistan and some of Persia’s Imperial Jewels, but he also went on to defeat the Mughal Empire of India in 1739.
In return of the captured Indian territories Nader Shah forced the defeated Mughal king to give him to the key to his treasury. To carry the treasures back to Persia it took:
    - 700 elephants
    - 4000 camels
    - 12000 horses
The Peacock Throne, Sea of Light & Mountain of Light Diamonds were among the prized jewels

1219 invasion of Persia was done by the Mongols ...not the Mughals. Great video.

Thank you for catching the error! 👌👍
Here's some related notes for the history buffs:
The term "Mughal" comes from a mispronunciation of the word "Mongol," but the Mughals of India were mostly ethnic Turks not Mongolians. However, Barbur (1483-1530), the first Mughal emperor, could trace his blood line back to Chinggis Khan the Mongol

What happened? I thought these were taken by Shah when he left in 1979 ?
Never mind, I thought the mollahs looted these treasures and sold it out for personal profit, after 1979?
I know what really happened. Iranian people are very good at making up stories about their leaders. Made it then, make it now !
On a serious note, I wouldn't think they allow filming of these treasures by visitors.

The security check at the Central Bank is as tight as the airports, and more! First, you'll turn in all your personal belongings (EVERYTHING) to the security desk. they placed them in a lockbox and give you a ticket before you approach the security scanner machine. . .
AS I have captioned at the end of this video, I purchased and the National Jewels DVD and the guide booklet and used bits and pieces of them to make this video.
The treasury museum is a MUST see if you're in Tehran. It's not just the priceless jewels. It's witness to history behind them . . .

@@SoheilCallage I've seen it in 2006 and I was astonished. I had no idea it even existed and just noticed when I was walking there. There were no smart phones (at least I didn't have one) but I had a camera. I don't know if they took it or just asked me not to take photo/video.
I was just wondering if they changed policy or you got it from an official video. Therefore I am not surprised by your answer and frankly relieved.
