A very nice series. I love Samuel Ramey's voice (parlato too!) and these "behind the curtain" are beautiful!
I was enchanted by his voice, so warm, so sweet, so sharp, so teasing... his perfect diction and marvellous stage presence!
The first time I listened him in a live show was in Milan, at Teatro degli Arcimboldi (with the pianist Warren Jones), in 2003, then Carmen and Nabucco in the same year at Arena di Verona. And in 2005 in Billy Bud at Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa (where I lives!!!)
I don't think he can remember, but after the Nabucco in Verona, I waited for him and asked him if he would ever come to sing in Genoa and he kindly replied "yes, in 2 years with Billy Bud". It was 2:30 am, i think!!! ;-)
I think that Samuel Ramey's voice and interpretations will make entire generations dream forever and it is wonderful that he wanted to teach and transmit his art.
My name is Heidi Milan, i love sing (I could be a mezzo soprano but I have never seriously studied singing!) I sing in the choir of my little church and love opera since I was a child (i was born in 1977, unfortunately too young to hear Sam live in his "golden years" in Italy!).The first time I listened Sam was in 1995 with the recording of Mephistopheles at the S. Francisco Opera (conductor Maurizio Arena). I was reading Bulgakov's "The Master and Margarita" in that time and...
it was "love at first listen"!!!

Maestro Ramey please tell us how could you ever sing 'Sibilar gli angui d aletto" with that ease, you were born with that giff of coloratura ?? And HIGH NOTES you could sing as a baritone as well no problem for the great Sam Ramey amazing

Would you tell us in one of your next videos how did you come to sing Assur in Semiramide and if you had already heard any bass in this role before. By the way I have worked at the Paris Opera Studio with Janine Reiss and thought she wouldn't be interested in making me work on this Rossini opera...but then she told me she was the coach on Aix en Provence's Semiramide! Tell us more about her and working with her. You are one of the rare singer that "speaks" and pronounce well French language when you sing ( Faust for example), and it is not easy for foreigners. How do you work on languages?

A troupe of strolling players, are we
    Shakespearean portrayers, are we
    But just simple band
    Who roams about the land
    Dispensing fol-de-rol frivolity
Mere folk who give distraction are we
No Theater Guild attraction are we
    But just a crazy group
    That never ceases to troop
Around the map of little Italy
