By listening to you I've opened up and relaxed my throat to sing with ease and comfort. I'm 77yrs old and have kept on studying.
Your wife has a wonderful laugh.

In 1995, when I was 20 I went to Salzburg to see Mr. Ramey performing at the Grosses Festspielhause. The day before the concert I was visiting the city and saw Mr. Ramey, walking towards me. I approached him to say hello. He was a bit surprised that a young man had recognized him. He signed an autograph for me: “Best wishes, Sam”. I will never forget his kindness and the beautiful show he gave to us in Salzburg. God bless you, Mr. Ramey.

    Welcome back!!! 🎊 🎉😍
It is always great to listen to your memories and stories, Maestro.
Unfortunately, it is true: in school the disciplines that are always cut are Music and Art (I have always found it absurd, especially in Italy!). Your perseverance, tenacity and dedication are an example that so many people should follow!
But... the song you don't remember the title of and that Mrs. Jones used to make you sing, might be "Cielito lindo"? 😉
    See you soon!!! 🤗
    Heidi

Dear Professor Ramey. I wanted to let you know, as I imagine anyone would, that there is at least one person in this world that has been named for you. Though my middle name is Raymond, my father loves opera and has certainly seen many of your performances. Limited to TH-cam, I am pleased to be named after such a handsome devil. Keep on Rockin! - Sam

Samuel Ramey is the greatest! My Mom took me, when I was a kid, to see Ramey in Mephistopheles! Great! I’ve been a fan my whole life!

Many thanks, Mr Ramey, for many happy hours of listening. I'm fully aware that the performer and the role are quite separate but, given your immense skills at peforming villainous roles, I'm pleasantly surprised to see how quietly spoken and modest you truly are. Wishing you a long and happy, family (and canine!)-orientated semi-retirement.

Thank you so much Maestro Ramey!
What you and your wife said is true and I agree: it's unfortunate for people in the arts being financially devalued because there's not enough to give from institutes to help future young artists move forward. As the child of a professional musician, my exposure to music had became very mainstreamed from Elvis, Sinatra, Bing, and Cash to Ghiaurov, Journet, Christoff, Chaliapin, Robeson, Siepi, Pinza, and you as well. Although, I currently continue my passion as a fine artist in oil painting, furniture repurpose and remodeling, metal casting, and graphic design in a fledgling state while I enjoy singing as a personal hobby. As my art theory professor once said, music and art are universal and they exist in nature through appreciation.
Can you talk a little about your active years performing in Wichita Grand Opera while you were teaching at Wichita State? I read various archives were you sang Commendatore from Don Giovanni several times there. How was that role different than your portrayal in the title role? Was it the same manner you did with the Grand Inquisitor and Pope Leo after singing Filippo II and Attila?

He could read the Kansas City phone book, and I'd gladly listen. Of course, he could also sing it, and same. 🥰

Love hearing LIndsey more involved in the discussion. And yes to music teachers. And I wish I too didn't stifle my vibrato. And... Fun segment! Love your hair both of you!

    Lovely videos !
I wan’t to propose a subject , recording of operas , for example , the Lucia with Caballé and Carreras role of Raimondo , or the Norma with Joan , big Luciano and Caballé , role of Oroveso.
And also the performace of Mefistòfele in Buenos Aires in 1999 with Armiliato and Gallardo-Domas , wich I attended 😊

My 15 years old son is in M. Ramey vocal range. One of his favorite scène is from Don Juan with Kurt Mole, the scène in the cemetary.

Thank you mr and mrs Ramey! Could you perhaps talk about your preperational phase for a role (both new and old)? How you approach it in terms of interpretation, musicality, technical challenges etc. It would also be lovely if you could describe your sessions with mr Boyajian!
Thank you very much for these videos! Best wishes!

    "Ay ay ay ay
    canta y no llores
    porque cantando se alegran,
    cielito lindo,
    los corazones".
(Alas, sing and don't cry, because singing, sweetheart, makes hearts happier). The name of the song is "Cielito Lindo".
Have you thought of sharing voice tips and lessons online?

Bentornato, grande Maestro! e bentornata Lindsey!
