  • This is an excellent behind the scenes look at the incredible indie practical effects driven SciFi Cosmic Horror film "The Void". It is sourced from my Bluray copy. I wanted to upload it because I feel more people should see the love and effort that went into this film. PLEASE support the film and team behind it. It is on VOD everywhere and the Bluray can be bought here: www.diabolikdvd...

      This is one of those movies that, even though it is not that well-known, it is the kind of movie I want to see more of. The passion that these people put into the movie really showed. There is even some scenes that strongly reminded me of that wonder and awe I had for the original The Thing with Kurt Russell. And that is saying a lot. :)

    I watched this movie after picking it at random on my android box the other night. And as a horror fan, horror in all formats be it literature, film, music and so forth, I thought it was fan-fucking-tastic! I'm a huge fan of Lovecraft, to the point of pathetic geekdom, and often have read about the common agreed upon idea of Lovecraft being "un-filmable", at least in terms of doing any justice to the mood and themes of his writing. Without going too much into it, I think I can honestly say that this movie is the closest I've ever seen a movie come to nailing that vibe. I can't wait for the sequel (they'd better make a goddamned sequel)

      it felt like the budget of an indie film, but it was still great. If there was a void 2 give it a bigger budget. I thought of Hellraiser and Silent Hill when I saw this film, but they are too campy. The film was more like Event Horizon and the Thing combined, which are my favorite cosmic horror combinations.

    Something I have to praise is the dialogue, idk if it was the actors improvising or in the script, but the way they stutter and talk over each other was so realistic and really immersed me in the fear of the setting. And also the written dialogue, just the way they talk and everything felt so grounded and real. Big props

    A fascinating depiction of the subconscious nature of humans to do anything and to go anywhere to find the "truth" and the fear of what you find. Lovecraftian. Good shit

    • @alexong2542
      @alexong2542 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not about finding out lovecraftian beings.
      It's about discovering the inevitability of one's own fate.
      Mankind always thought theyre the architect of their own fare, they always thought they're the center of the universe.
      This is what the joker is trying to get humans to understand, that's it's all a big joke.
      If the joker ever met these lovecraftian horrors, he'll just make a seafood joke out of it and laugh it off, because he's already mad , he already found the "truth" before others. Like he said, he's just ahead of the curve

  • @vincegredo

    I loved the feel of this movie, and the effects were extremely refreshing to see in lieu of the CGI world of cinema we're living in.
    The story felt super interesting at the beginning but I felt that the end got a little too cosmic for me.
    If they at least hinted at what was happening or provided some lore in another form of source material I'd be fine with it.
    But just seeing it as it is didn't make a whole lot of sense. Maybe a flashback through the Doctor's journey of otherworldly discovery is in order

    • @calipanhead
      @calipanhead  7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Lovecraftian horror is always about unexplainable mystery. So I loved the ending. Pretty obvious homage to Fulci and Carpenter's Prince of Darkness.

    • @ManDuderGuy
      @ManDuderGuy 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I really think if they had tweaked that final scene a bit it could have been better. Make use of closeups on the actor's eyes, get them to emote a progression of cuts that show basic fear and confusion, and then slipping into a paralyzing cosmic dread/stupor; a lovecraftian AWESOME experience that blows ya mind.
      It would keep the mystery intact too.

      The ambiguity definitely definitely what is the agenda and the back bone of the movie… Framework whatever, but they definitely need to make a sequel, not because that’s two more hours of enjoyment we will get, but to help explain this a little further along havengive us a little bit of pragmatism!

    • @sigmacademy

      The problem with Harbinger Down was it tried to be too hard like other movies. If it had stood on its own two feet and risked something bigger, it could actually have been a pretty decent entry into the horror genre. It just kinda left me with a mweh feeling after I watched it. The creatures were sort of scary, the acting was okay, the story was average. Not feeling any of that vibe that I felt when watching The Void. You can tell the pacing is crazy in The Void, and in this documentary they tell you why. I literally watched the entire film in one go, as to not miss anything happening to characters or developments in the story line. At first I didn't understand why the ended the way it did - it could have ended with the protagonist sacrificing himself scene, but then I rechecked the last couple of minutes again, and I saw how much better that last 10-20 seconds actually was for the movie.

    • @sigmacademy
      @sigmacademy 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The movie wasn't trying to be a blockbuster or a masterpiece. And that is why it hits the sweet spot. It is exactly what it tries to be - a horrific indie horror. It also brought some really gross effects that we have never seen before to the screen - always a plus when you have "some" creativity and originality when trying to scare the audience. The sets were also so well-done, I literally couldn't tell you it was not done in a hospital for most of the movie. The talent that they drew on really was stellar.

    This was an amazing movie. It felt like seeing the Call of Cthulhu roleplaying game in live action.
    Yet somehow most of my Lovecraft-fan friends hated it.

    The freakiest thing here is the fact Aaron poole and Aaron paul are different people yet almost identical.

    I watched the movie two years ago and I just watched the movie a few moments ago, It's a great cosmic horror movie. If you lo like those three movies with Sam Neill, Event Horizon, In the mouth of madness and Possession and I would say John Carpenter's The Thing too, The Void is a great cosmic, monster, horror movie. Totaly recommended.

    0:46 Gillespie. That's appropriate.
    1:44 That right there is reminiscent of 'The Keep'.

    It is really really really too bad this didn’t get more attention when it came out! I definitely would’ve bought it on paper view, I just found it on TH-cam yesterday in my recommendations in horror movies! It looked cool, when the thumbnails to over the top, it usually sucks… Something basic and simple… It’s awesome usually. I hope they make a part two, I’ll definitely pitch in 20 or 30 bucks for fundraising!
