- Who is the Mysterious Lady of the Ninth Heaven (Jiu Tian Xuan Nü, 九天玄女)? In the spirit of de-mystifying her, let's call her Lady of the Ninth Heaven.
I love hearing about how other practitioners work with deities and spirits of various pantheons. I so appreciate this. Interestingly I was just speaking of her today (well yesterday now) with a friend. She'd just discovered Kwan Yin and I told her a story about a tattoo I have.It was designed by Ami James. He specializes in Asian art. I had requested he design a piece based on Madonna during the Blonde Ambition tour with bullet bra and high ponytail-- but also as a mermaid. So he did this gorgeous Asian inspired version.....I have had a number of Asian people tell me it is a deity. The other day I had my Metaphysical planner with me while I was getting a manicure at a shop I've frequented for many years. Kim, the owner who is Vietnamese, ,noticed the image of Lady of the 9th Heaven and said, "oh you like her. She is your patron. She is on your leg. I noticed....." There was no question here! Coincidence? I don't believe in them.
I had already read about your online class and was planning (still am! In February) to take it... thus had begun looking up information about Jiu Tian Xuan Nu. When I saw this video pop up tonight, I was so excited. A lovely way to begin this last day of 2017. I'm excited to continue learning from your rich and fascinating resources (Taking the Holistic Tarot currently) and grateful for you and for the Lady of the 9th Heaven. I wonder how she feels about being styled in early Madonna? I'm guessing it suits given her teaching of sex and sex magic!
Previously I've worked with Oshun, an Orisha. I was called to her when I was living near the beach on the East Coast. She is also a goddess (lao) of sexuality, beauty, women's issues, the sweet waters, and magic. Oh and I adore your explanation of Jiu Tian Xuan Nu not caring about skin color and religious belief.... not being a crazy psycho jealous bitch! ;-) Awesome!

I'm literally crying; I have a doll collection, and I customize them as goddesses. So I meditate on every goddess to express her in the best way. Well, the thing is that I bought a doll from another artist, in a traditional Chinese costume, and I call her Jiu Tian Xuan Nü after a fast and extremely superficial research about Chinese mythology. Of course, she popped up to me. I just finished Hecate, and now I'm thinking of Astarte (i have the doll, but I never make her goddess outfit because it was the first one). So my curiosity about this Chinese goddess appears, and voila! Clearly, she decides to appear in my life and is wonderful.
Btw, I'm a PhD student, and I work on cosmology, Islamic cosmology. Basically, there are 9 heavens too, but the 9th is the place of god. I think that I should place the Mysterious Lady of the Ninth Heaven on my desk.

When I worked with her, I also had the impression that she would prod you along - not spoon feed but help you to help yourself. She told me so, if that doesn't sound too bonkers - it's about developing and realising your own potential. I really like working with her, she seems to have a very practical way of going about things.

I think it's important to note that Jiu Tian Xuan Nü is not just a Celestial Being, but an Enlightened Celestial Being. Not all Celestial Beings, or devas as Buddhists would call them, deserve the veneration of humans, some can be very egoistical and jealous. Jiu Tian Xuan Nü however is not like this. She is very wise and benevolent, as well as powerful and just. I think she and Guanyin are kind of like the "softer" and "harder" sides of the Divine Feminine in a sense. Both are important, it's good to have both in a balanced and complementary way.

On a personal note - I tend to happen to see videos or references to her when I'm seeing large flocks of birds outside on the street. It happened already several times.
My previous "ideal of choice", the hu li jing, was more present in my life in different images and references. Meanwhile this one is less visible more subtle and therefore I'm often feel disconnected. But yes, I still feel some presence
I recently stumbled upon your video due to a comic I'm writing. I've really fell in love with the lady of the ninth heaven. many of her characteristics lined up perfectly with the character I'm writing. so much so that Jiu Tian Xuan Nü, is one of her aliases in certain circles.. this video is super informative.

For my 2017 MDP, I chose the tripartite taoist goddesses for my deity pages and decided to color those pages to add some personal energy to my planner. I love it that I instinctively chose to use the colors that she is traditionally depicted with. I will continue to work with her this year and of course, color in the image in my trade size MDP. I just printed out my I-Ching Practitioner Course Book and Cards (I love my yarrow stalks but mind has been opened since I received that Tao Oracle)....and I printed out the Lady's image to put on my altar. I was called upon by her a couple of nights ago. I saw a red light. Then I felt her sweeping energy come over me in a burning Red wave of energy. It was extremely powerful and profound. This video resonated with me and I'm so grateful for your description! I'm also so honored that she has called upon me. I feel very connected to her, although this is the first I'm hearing of her. She appeared to me that night as one of her paintings in a red dress that I was able to find online after doing some searching. Then it led me to your video. Many thanks to you! I can't wait to continue working with Jiu Tian Xuan Nü.
Also, I thought it worth mentioning that my Patron Deity has been The Morrigan up until now. I feel they have joined together as my guides. The Morrigan has Celtic origins but they both have many similarities.
I started reading the book today and realised that you are the author. That is typical of me as I get pulled onto a spiritual path having no idea of what I am doing. I relate really stongly to the Mysterious Lady of the Ninth Heaven. For the past few days each time I go out I find a Red Kite (Bird of Prey) circling over my head and it keeps getting closer and somehow I know the bird is female. I have a terrible dream of the past in the wintery snows of Siberia probably in the 1850s. There is a group of leather clad people carrying a sacrified horse and walking in a circular procession around a fire in a clearing of the forest. They are lost and summon me for help, but I am so furious that they sacrificed the horse that I swoop down on them. I can feel the cold air flowing through my feathers and the fury as I descend from high upon them. From my viewpoint the flappnig of my wings kicks up the dust and snow and the people look at me with complete terror on their faces and run off screaming into the woods, many to die in the cold. I am shocked by their reaction and pretty horrified by the dream as I am personally a very quiet and non aggressive person. The look of horror on their faces is very disturbing and I wonder what on earth were they seeing. I thought I was some kind of bird but the disturbance I make near the fire seems to indicate that I was much bigger than a bird. Have you any suggestions to make how I should approach the matter of this Lady?

So one of the characters in a Game called "Snowbreak Containment Zone." has a Deiwos, a Source of Power in the story that are based off of Ancient Myths and Gods has the Deiqos of the Lady of NInth Heaven.
Her name is Chengxing and she uses scifi-esque Talismans that she electronically shoots out of her body (being part cyborg) that zaps her opponents to bits!
Great to read through her lore that Chengxing's character is based off.

thank you so much for this. i had been seeing an asian lady with light blue and light pink robes with a big long sword, young and beautiful always rising up into the air with her long hair flowing, her sword never above her waist but ready to be used... which was funny to me because i am african... but her fierce spirit contained in her serene countenance felt so compatible to mine that i loved her immediately. this was about a year ago and it took me a moment to realize that you were talking about her in this video... whats also weird is that i keep looking at your face and feel that same love for you, with a vague sense of having found a long lost loved one...so proud of what and how you are gorgeously expressed in this world... and now it all makes sense... and it feels so good to be able to call her name. thank you dear one

Thank you for this video and of course I can't wait for the follow up video! My experience with her so far: when I started the I Ching course I put up her picture on my altar, concecrated it and chanted her mantra 108 times and then concecrated the coins and yarrow stalks with her mantra and generally call on her when I want to use the I Ching for divination and spellcrafting. Something interesting has happened along the way: I don't know how to describe it, but she's present in/at/around the picture and the black turmaline that I used for the protection ritual. It's a very direct and noticable energy that I can't put into words, but I just feel like she is there and wants to teach me... what I don't know, but I just know she is there.

This was quite cool to listen to; I actually found this video more intriguing than your more recent video covering her. I really appreciate how you delved more into her association with the Kingfisher-especially bringing up the colors of blue and amber as they reminded me of an anime that sort of served as a primordial (story? narrative? legacy? mythos?) idea that followed me from my upbringing, up to my adolescence, into law school and out it. Are you familiar with "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind" by Miyazaki?
There's two versions I have in mind-the animation that served as the predecessor film to the foundation of Studio Ghibli and the manga itself by Hayao Miyazaki that was initiated in the 1980's and ended in the mid-1990's. (There was also an "Americanized" dubbed version called 'Warriors of the Wind' that butchered the story to such an extent that the next time an American film studio sought to adapt one of Miyazaki's films to the USA audience, a katana was mailed to the person in charge, which was then Harvey Weinstein with the simple message "No Cuts"; which is how "Princess Mononoke" came to be.)
I shan't relay how that story intertwines with my own life experience, but I should like to point out that Princess Nausicaä in the story is depicted as having affinity with the wind, able to glide along like a bird; communicate with others through mysterious means-even forces one might consider beyond the purvey of mankind; embodies both warrior-like qualities but also feminine and maternal attributes that enhances her leadership and to make her a unique presence both in crisis and on the battlefield. There is a particular evocative scene as well, where she is dyed in the blue blood of the 王蟲 and, with her hair of amber, dances upon a field of seemingly golden grains...
Your description in this video reminds me of that image and character, especially with the part of the gourd, which you had left out of the most recent video you did on her; when the sword symbol is paired with the gourd, I feel as though it presents a more full picture. I recommend the manga series, the film is nice too but it only covers 2/7th of the series that Miyazaki ultimately created. I think you might enjoy either or, but perhaps the manga might be of more stimulation? Particular how Nausicaä interacts with the Crypt of Shuwa. A number of readers found themselves conflicted over her decision, but I suspect you might have a more nuanced take on it.
At any rate, this video was nicely timed-apparently, your I Ching video came out an hour before I finished experiencing this one. I admire your regularity, though I don't know if I'll watch that one but I imagine there might be a future where I might. There are always unexpected meetings on the crossroads (TRAVERSÉES) of life; such is the nature of The Seed[s] and The Sower[s].

Also, I ordered a bell online, with a dragon on it, because I just liked it, and now I need to know what is going on in the sky above my house, and why. There is way more than just this lady. But that was definitely one of the things. If they arent fake and you can help me make friends with them, I will love you forever. The head of the dragon sort of looks like a kitsune, and the thing in the sky looked like it came straight out of Naruto. Not kidding.

Am I naive as I don’t believe race should matter for any of us since we all are human and share the same “mother” from Africa. The seven “strands” of DNA shared by humanity, for all races comes from the same source. I have moved from tribal thinking into the universal. Your work is helping me immensely. I have both your books, I watch all your videos (most still catching up). Your skill of integrating ideas and concepts has benefited me greatly, enabling me to connect the dots. Being brought up Catholic I’ll never see the Mass in the same way - now I see the Magician everywhere. I’d describe myself as an eclectic seeker. May we continue to blaze brightly!

Until I started to see your videos I never knew about the Lady of the Ninth Heaven, but I had already researched books and information about I-Ching, The Book of Changes and Chinese Mythology. I even bought the Romance of the Three kingdoms to try to understand better the history and culture.
Asian Mythology (especially Chinese) does not have the value that should have and the credit it deserves.
Archangels are a very powerful energy in my life and they always have been with me, so yes, I see myself working with The Lady of the Ninth Heaven.

I bought the book in your banner, "The Tao of Craft" by chance and found the Lady of The Nineth Heaven. I had been praying for some help. I also dreamed of this "Dark Lady" sent to help me. I dreamt her first and then found the book. I am attracted to the Taoist tradition because I used to do Zen meditation with a martial artist and he taught me some "secret" taoist energy exercises. Recently I searched the internet and bookshops for these exercises and found out that they were secret. One interesting story is that our teacher said we should do an "Om". To do this we had to spend one day for three weeks of just doing the energy exercises and meditation. On the fourth week the four of us sat in a line put our hands on the person in front and chanted "Om". To my amazement the whole building shook. After three weeks of just doing normal meditation our teacher decided to do another "Om". This time it was just four people in a room saying "Om" and nothing happened. So the secret energy exercises actually worked!

In my current belief I think all the gods and goddesses are the same (so hades is Pluto but also Osiris and Hel and so on) we call them different names based on where we're from. To me she kind of sounds like Lilith or the Morrigan, maybe Hekate in a way. I actually had an experience with her I thought I was working with her and then she turned out to be Lilith but like I said I believe they're one in the same but that's sort of a newer thing for me and might change. She pushed me to improve myself and form healthier habits so I could have the balls to what I needed to do
Imo She represents Love, the mysterious bond that binds heaven and earth together , also the mysterious authority of that bond.
Can see it in the older depictions of 玄 word which is shaped like a gourd… her imagery often holds gourd or bagua in her left hand which symbolizes authority / love bond , right hand holding the sword symbolizing the action or power of love❤
Speculate that it’s no surprise her presence is mentioned in the battle of Zhuolu, (not to be taken literally) where we witness the war between a faction that split from the lineage of the flame, one part that united as yanhuang, the other under Chiyou which refused to unite.
The refusal to coexist peacefully is an antithesis to the surname of the flame 炎lineage ， 姜 also meaning ginger which is a root (where we have the old saying older ginger or older roots are spicier, a united root has more “fire”, word play on the flame lineage) ultimately union of opposites is the way of Dao, and going against union, goes against Dharma which promotes harmony and pluralities coexisting side by side (the chiyou faction instead setting up an additional polarization to wage war against the union).
Compared to yan and huang as two poles uniting in love, to form a greater whole, defining the huaxia for generations to come. It’s like a magnet, where two opposite poles “sacrifice” their identities to attract each other, however come to life reborn as a larger whole, hence the Lady also rides a phoenix, a symbol of that resurrection into wholeness, healed from divisions.
Suspect Middle Kingdom means the union of heaven and earth really… not a literal middle on the earth. It’s no surprise the lady came to you probably since we are so divided these days and she is (at least to me) 😂a symbol of love and union.❤as cheesy as it sounds…
(left hand is where the 如意ruyi is held as well, symbolizing authority to act and speak “意” literally the sound of love itself hence its mystery, since it’s so hard to describe and precedes being of action.
Lingbao tianzun who is mentioned very little , exemplifies this concept of mystery as well, also presents that mysterious second phase , or spirit so to speak defining love, the phase that leads to “separation” between yin yang , where only love can come in between the perceived duality)

"Lady of the Ninth Heaven" .. . I always thought it was "Lady of the Nine Heavens" or rather in charge of the first through ninth heavens. But that's an interesting name. :)
Somehow, 九天玄女 in my opinion is interlinked with the Hermetic Qabalah of Shekinah or even an feminine manifestation of the Occult Mystery of the Holy Ghost.
I had a dream in the dream i was walking up a mountain path, there was many people, families and children and old masters walking up the mountain, fast and slow, some having a rest on the mountain path.
There was trees up ahead and the sunlight shining through as i was admiring the the light at the top of the mountain, i chinese woman that seemed to be quite plain at first glance paused me on my upward journey. Her energy was quite steady with a confidence she pointed to the left of the mountain as i followed the direction where she was pointing i seen a yinyang symbol rotating then the whole mountain turned into a yin yang platform and i was standing in the middle of it. It started to spin and rise up into the heavens and next minute i was in outer space and a light from a star far away beamed toward me and a voice was talking to me telepathically i couldnt quite hear what they were saying. Then i woke up, i felt called to look into Taoism and who the mysterious female was and i have a feeling i had a dream about the lady of the ninth heaven or Xi Wang Mu.

"Within numerological divination, the Mysterious Woman is particularly associated with the liuren 六壬 method based on the shi 式 (cosmic board, cosmograph), which is also known as Xuanü shi 玄女式."

I believe I have worked with the 9th heaven lady in, according to the interpretatio graeca, her African Brazilian manifestation, Oya-Iansan, the mother of the 9 oruns rivers or heavens). Oya rules winds, the storm and storm rays. She protects us against hauntings and ghosts curve to her. She reminds very much Persephone, despite her husband is not a Pluto-like god, her husband is the African Brazilian version of the yellow emperor, Shango, the god of justice and thunder. Oya controls the spirits and besides a mighty witchdoctor she is also a warrior and she fights side by side with her husband. Oya is represented carrying a sword. She is portrayed as young, beautiful and a very free and independent woman. I had noticed in the Kabbalist tree of life, the divine light crosses the 10 sephirot describing a perfect storm ray, the 10 th sephirot is Malkut, Gaia, the earth, so this divine ray crosses 9 heavens. That fact about the tree of life made me remember of Oya and now the Lady of the 9th heaven. Brazilian shamans also pratice the art of sigilas but in their cerimonies only. I had noticed a surprising similarity in the Taoist magical practices and the African Brazilian magical tradition, then you reveal the lady of the 9th Heaven to us and I am so amazed. In Brazil everybody has a female and a male orisha as father and mother. It s not considered s choice of devotion, you simply are part of your orishas divine energy. Do you feel as though the Lady of the Ninth Heaven would be someone to call upon for assistance with specific craft development, e.g. providing insight regarding techniques of practice? My practice is very eclectic/syncretist and I wonder if the Lady might be looking to contribute to those of us who are open to receiving guidance from many sources.
Sovereign Self definitely. There are both evocation and invocation rituals for calling upon her to help in specific ways.

that's so odd because, i'm mexican (well my heritage is, i was born in california) and the aztecs had a flower goddess called Xochiquetzal (her name means flower feather, ikr how stereotypically native american of us haha) and in a book i have called the book of goddesses they give a little bit of lore that talks about a ninth heaven and her ruling over a mountain over the nine heavens, this is a native american goddess and your patroness you speak of in the video is on the other side of the world is a very different culture... strange how things "coincidentally" correspond to each other
