    Great video. Ancestral work has been an integral part of my spiritual journey. In fact it was my ancestress in Jamaica at age 12, who came to me to give me a ritual, to exact vengeance on an abuser. They have come and initiated me on the astral into our Obeah spiritual paths. My dad taught me a lot, it was them however that did the initiation, and continued ritual teachings. Everyone of my ancestral lines has revealed themselves. They are who I am Ase.

    OMG, Benebell...you really hit home with the offerings and family members. My maternal grandfather is always lamb or pickled beets. My mom is coffee or sapphires. My pup is anything pork or bacon. You have really opened up some of the way of ancestoral trauma and childhood dissonance. Things were like, "This. This is where the damage has hurt so many." I had been working to try to help heal aspects for those who follow behind. So, thank you. It really clarified things and helped me to see new paths to help make those corrections.

    I’m completely disconnected from my father’s family, and grew up surrounded by my mother’s and her extended family. I feel almost no connection with my mom’s side, it’s a once a year at Christmas family, but whenever I get together or speak with my cousins on my dad’s side the connection and familiarity is tangible. I can’t wait to incorporate your techniques to my practice, because I desperately want to remember, and I’m here to claim my family’s legacy. Thank you SO much for all you do.

    There is an old Italian Calabrian prayer that can only be revealed between 6:00pm and 12:00 am Christmas Eve. One can contact ancestors and a sign will always appear. I have never tried it, but was blessed with the secret prayer. It was considered occult. I have been assured it works. I've wanted to try the ritual, but Christmas is always so hectic I always forget! Lol.

    • @CricketsBay
      @CricketsBay 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You might try it on the day Christmas falls on the Julian Calendar. It's usually about 2 weeks after December 25, but I read it can vary by a couple days because of how the Julian Calendar and the Gregorian Calendar don't match up.

    Thank you so much for these videos, I can only watch one once and a while because there is so much to absorb. I have a geneaological rich family, on many sides of my family, but as of right now I am the only one of my generation with any interest. So I guess I am the collector and story teller of the family. One of my great aunts was a prolific collector and in vengence for her father, my great aunts daughter burnt all the collected works of her mother, and would allow nothing to the rest of us. I feel that grief so painfully for the past 15 years. Last year I did a dive on my maternal line for the first time, did a mediation class with a collection of women on our ancestral lines I got some really horrifying visions of pain. I've found almost all lines of my family come from the same place in scotland, and I've been reading up on the islands, there's so much pain in this family. I've had an ancestor alter for a year now and I've felt success sorting our these intense emotions when working with these emotions. Thank you again, for your thoughts and action points on this topic.

    I just finished your shadowwork workbook and it really helped me make sense of the stories I absorbed from my ancestral line and the generational traumas that I might want to address. I also have living relatives who are really dangerous and unhealthy people on an energetic level that I don't want to plug in to any of that.

    • @BenebellWen
      @BenebellWen  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And yes, I do think it's so important to acknowledge, when addressing this topic, that not everyone wants to or would benefit from connecting to their ancestors. We each know best for ourselves and it's of utmost importance, especially as practitioners, that we trust our own instincts.

My perception has always been that those with us in spirit are far more open-minded than we might presume. =)

    Good discussion. This was never something that I was interested in until my mom died last month. I don't get elaborate or anything except to talk to her and ask for guidance and signs, for even though we weren't close, I feel her presence at times. My grandparents were Japanese Buddhists and family had altars for them with incense, pictures and rice. That's about all I remember from a long time ago when they passed. Thank you for the video.

    I had a tiny red flag go up and wanted to ask about it. I didn't realize why I didn't put salt on my ancestor alter until you mentioned it.. isn't salt a ghosts/ spirit deterrent? Or is it more like clears out the bad vibes, malefic spirits included? I guess I didn't want to accidentally chase my ancestors away, not all of them were good people.

    An hour before your tweet, I realized I did not know/remember my paternal grandmother's maiden name. Luckily there's a family group text, so I asked my aunt and uncles and got the info. It made for a very interesting afternoon digging around the internet. Now I can empower my alter and personal archives with photos and vital record type info. Moral of the story is the elders we have with us provide access to the ancestors we seek (for whatever reason).

    Thank you so much for sharing this technique, the Ancestral connection reading you taught at Readers Studio still reverberates through my life, today, I exchanged readings with a friend, and The Hierophant and the King of Cups (the cards that my ancestors chose as the answer to the question "who are you?" during the RS presentation) popped out of the deck, with the 8 of Pentacles between them, when I asked about my finances. I'm gonna try this tonight, put those cards on my altar to make it an ancestor altar, and hope the glue on my old round mirror isn't adding too much background noise 🤣 💖

    Thank you for this informative video. I have a question and hope you can help me.
    You talk about ancestral power, can you call upon descendants if your offspring have passed before you? Or is that a no-no?
    I ask because my daughter and my expectant granddaughter suddenly and unexpectedly passed while my daughter was asleep, a few days prior to this video being posted and I am currently setting up an altar in honour of them. I have seen and read so many things about ancestors but nothing on descendants and afraid I may do something wrong.
    I loved that you shared your story about your grandmother and her McDonald's french fries. It made me smile and I let out a little laugh, for the first time in days, when you shared that. My daughter absolutely went nuts for my creamy mashed potatoes and gravy, that I would make on special occasions. She would brag to everyone who would join us for a meal and they were being served. I'm now laughing inside at the image of a hot pile of mash potatoes and gravy at the alter. lol :)

    I have a rattle and I use a black bird feather. 🐦 I love to be able to journey as they say to see my soul contract. But haven't reach that point yet.

    Great video. For quite some time, I have been pondering a question, and would like your perspective: It seems that ancestral power (and reverence) is associated with the current physical body that the soul is in. How does ancestral power relate to a soul that incarnates into a body whose family/ancestors are new to that soul? For example, let's say that a soul has incarnated into a body whose ancestors are Norwegian. The soul has never had a Norwegian incarnation before, but was Bantu African for a very, very long line of incarnations.
    I suppose that at this point, the person can go by what feels right, be it either Bantu or Norwegian, but I still wonder which would be more appropriate/effective/respectful/etc.
    As a side note, I suppose that this also shows how closely tied we all are regardless of biology and ethnicity.

    • @BenebellWen
      @BenebellWen  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well, my belief is that just as there is DNA, there is a metaphysical counterpart to our DNA, which for lack of a better term, I just call "soul DNA" and that's where I might speculate genetic memories-- and also past life memories-- get housed. Of course, it needs to be said these are all in the realm of crapshoot personal intuitive beliefs and no one legitimate with authority is saying any of this. Haha. =)

  • @Chrome166

      I do believe that we hold on to past life memories within us, on some "soul genetic" level (whatever that even means, haha, just making up words as I go along... deal with it...) so yes. Definitely. =)

    This is the perfect way to start my day, thank you so much! I find this super beneficial, informative, and really just a succinct explanation to honoring our loved ones! It is so impactful to hear this perspective because at the beginning of this year I was made Best Man at my sisters wedding!
    I really took it seriously, as I should have, and I got up at 6am for some time, invoking my ancestors to help me write the speech I would give.
    I had never experienced dedication or devotion, really, to anything in my life! I actually had gotten a Tarot reading around that time from a local reader(not about the Wedding but because the Amazing SKT was being sent and I knew nothing of Tarot) and I felt obligated to ask if parts of my speech were from them because when I was thinking about writing it or while actually writing it, whole paragraphs or topics I wanted to cover just popped in, very formulated already. She said "Yes" that they were proud the way I turned out, caring about family, and were glad I wanted to bring them up.
    That day was the best I've ever been( I was the Best Man dang it). Part of the speech was to tell everyone how the best parts of themselves were given from the best parts of our departed, and when we live in that way death is conquered through the living. My uncle who never says anything other than, " Guess what I got you for Christmas...I didn't get you shit!" afterwards then came up to me and told me what a learning experience my speech was!
    Stepping back a bit: in the Tarot reading it came up that I have an inheritance waiting for me, if I want it, and with the transition from October to November coming up I feel the passion to take up that inheritance. The information in this video is again super didactic because like you said, Ive got no Idea! and even though I'm Hispanic, Dias Del los Muertos isn't something my family celebrates so I don't have that connection but even still, I can't overlook my departed loved ones, even the ones I've never met.
    Just a bit of Family stuff from me as I set to begin my day! Much Peace and Many Blessings.

      So what I'm going to offer is all most certainly in the realm of unverified, unverifiable personal gnosis, but my perspective on this has always been that their perspectives change... and change a lot... in the afterlife. If you intently connect with them, maybe you might be very surprised to find how open, inviting, loving, and supportive they actually are to their living descendants, no matter what opinions, beliefs, or biases they might have held when living.
