This is a flawed logic, if you want a story to progress, you need to have people make mistake. Since WE are THE PLAYERS, it will obviously be us that goes around progressing the story, so obviously bad thing will happen by our hands. You can say the same in Warcraft 3, it is by OUR hands that Arthas found Frostmourn and Hellscream drank demon blood. In WoW, you cant just have NPC going around and do things by themselves, your job is to aid the NPCs

What if their plan is to take the blood of two powerful immensely powerful beings, Argunite (Argus, who could Thanos an entire raid with the most powerful weapons on Azeroth) and Azerite (Azeroth, supposedly the mightiest Titan yet, or possibly ever, through concentrated Titan Residuum), the crystallized Nether (Nethershards) and the odd crystals found inside the very tangible visions of N'Zoth, and combine them? Could they, through unknown means and magics, use the essence of the Titans to create a facsimile of one? Consider how much Argunite and Titan Residuum the population of Azeroth have just flung into god knows were to empower ourselves against the threats we face. Is it outside the realm of possibility that there is a leak? An insider? Someone who just wanted to make some coin on a good trade who got the right offer from the right people? If Ethereals can just wander into the visions, can you imagine the amount of crystals the Void Ethereals could harvest through our combined efforts? The coalescing visions, the crystals, and god knows what other energies and materials are there. It would explain the normal Ethereals wanting samples of these materials and Vashreen's distaste for Locus-Walker, what if the opposing faction of Ethereals are aware of what the Void Ethereals are trying to do? If this is not just insanity on my part, this could be so, SO fucking bad. It's said that a Titan that falls to the Void could blue screen the universe. If they could catalyze the blood and essence of Titans unwittingly handed to them with god knows how much power from the Nether and Void, we could be very fucked. This doesn't even factor in their intense observation of the Ren'dorei (Void Elves), the fact that the Old God vessel that is The Black Blade is fuck only knows where if it still exists, and the fact that Xal'atath is out there, free to do whatever shit she pleases. The fact that they're probably going to get their hands on Anima, whatever the flying fuck that turns out to be, once the Shadowlands are ripped open. I've got to extract myself from this tinfoil now.

I love the Ethereals, their Mysteries are so incredibly intriguing.. They also look just plain Cool. I'm glad Blizz is giving them more and more attention since like Argus. They had been kind of neglected Lorewise since BC, aside from like one or two Transmogers.
There was an Ethereal faction in Legion before we seen the Void Ethereals on Argus, they were in the Nexus trying to tap into the Nexus Vault to harness massive amounts of power to become one with the Void. And one actually achieves this in the Arcane mage/Discipline Priest artifact acquisition quests.
Awesome video, awesome finds! Ethereals are probably one of the most intriguing race in Warcraft Universe for me. Their lore, their appearance, everything about them is so cool :D Hype!
It's nice to see people realizing just how important the Ethereals are in WoW's story, especially with the story focusing more towards the Void ever since the release of Chronicles. They've been my favorite race in the WoW universe for a long time, and so it's nice to see that they're getting some much needed attention.

I hope it won't be a case of "She was in the Trial of Style and the Brawler's Guild, so she's obviously a major lore figure!" like how some people are speculating that the Timewalking raids have something to do with the future expansions. I really hope that's not the case. But looking at things like the Timeless Isle and Kairoz and how he lead us into Warlords of Draenor without many players barely knowing his name, it wouldn't surprise me too much if this was the case.

my speculation from this is that although Shadreen is a void being and other factions are not that they work with the same master some just have different powers. just like we have priests who wield light and/or shadow which are powers from 2 different areas of the lore.
It would make sense that these ethereals could be looking for a way to reconstruct their bodies. It would be interesting to have a long quest line to have us help them and therefore unlock another allied race that would give us a choice of faction (like pandaren)
Im glad the alliance players get all the plot and the horde get their capital cities as progression raids. Great video though, I had no idea about any of this.
Since i'm an absolute sucker for new playable races in all shapes and forms, all I got from this video was: Potential Ethereal Playable Race in the future, and I am TOTALLY on board with that.
A void vs light science fantasy expansion is something I REALLY REALLY REALLY hope for. Yrel's crazy dreani cult must be explored. An evil faction of the light would be super interesting. Imagine the scarlet crusade in spaceships and mechs. But in this scenario the scarlet crusade are all light bound dreani cultists. And also imagine that in that expansion gnomes and goblins and dreani and maghar become tinkerers. Because we need some mech suits and spaceships to fight the bad guys in mech suits and spaceships. = D
The etherials also collected ashugun (sp) powder in BC in exchange for rep and gave up gems weekly as well for our efforts upon reaching a certain level rep.
If we end up meeting more Ethereals and finding out more about the void in SL and if that corruption reaches even there, we could easily transition into a void expansion, come back to Azeroth, and then a Black Empire expansion. Would be something to be excited for anyway.

I think Blizz may introduce Ethereal's as a playable race, but they will start out neutral just like Pandarians do. They are gathering information on us in order to decide whether or not we are viable allies and also they know that N'zoth is not really dead and it was his intention to be killed. This will all tie into Sylvanas and the Jailer. I do believe that since Sylvanas was corrupted long ago and played a part in all of the events that happened in BFA, the Ethereals realm in the void has maybe since been corrupted too and they are in search of other allies. Allies that go to the Shadowlands when they die, because they can't fully deal with the corruption because it hides in the Maw of the Shadowlands, a place that void creatures can not travel to. Just my opinion.
The Consortium, the guy in the vision is part of the Consortium, and WE have ALL helped them flourish, and upgrade since BC. They are on OUR side. Because, why let your most dedicated, and considerate customer base just VANISH from the planes. . .
My theory, having played WoW since launch: Like all other "hidden plots" in WoW since early Vanilla, just another McGuffin/MacGuffin plopped there maybe with an original intention in mind to have a full storyline of its own but ultimately simply there to drive whatever other story along and entice player speculation...ultimately going nowhere.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but it’s often stated that the Void Lords are the rulers of the Void, but has there even been mention of the Light lords, or entity counterpart. In the Chronicle, light and void (two separate entities) collided and created to universe the void is often referred to or in reverence a place of existence which is ruled over by the Void Lords, and the Light is simply that, the Light, no singular authority. A void/light expansion idea sounds interesting and climatic... considering those two are the beginning of all they two could be the end... imo

You have seen it before, nature showed its fundamental colors when The Evergrowth was allowed to eat... wildly. i think these lore videos are awesome, love figuring out the big pictures secrets in the game that could lead to some insane things revealed in the future like upcoming expansions. Cant wait for shadowlands
I didn't hear you say the name in the video but I cannot be the only person who looks at Shadreen, see's her Crown, knows her name is Watcher, and didn't think instantly of Xal'atath, the Black Blade, the container of an Ancient being Xal'atath, who watched as we survived the Legion onslaught only to venture forth into the cosmos. I mean right? I'm not the only one here am I? I mean, her crowns central piece looks A LOT like the original form/color of the dagger.
We have a couple of questions right now.. 2 that came to mind. 1st is.. Anima.. What is it? Is it really soul energy or whatever its called.. But then what was Inside of Ra-Den? In Throne of thunder. We clearly see Anima is blood like. But we also know that this was taken FROM Ra-Den. So did the titans use Anima to create the Titan Keepers. As in stealing anima.. to forge powerfull beings. Which is why the more powerfull Titan Keepers are so powerfull and unique. Compared to the more mechanical and stuff titan keepers we see in BFA. Ra-Den was also able to get corrupted.. Was that maybe because of Anima? As its life fluid or something. 2nd. Is Azeroth maybe the Titan of FATE. As we have been the champion of Azeroth. And time and time again, we have conquered fate. When we should have died. We were kept alive. Spirit keepers. When in the Nighthold, the Grand Magistrix Elisande. Says that SHE can foresee the future.. And in the one she saw.. We died.. But we didnt. We defeated her. Telling us that we are above time, we are above fate. We shape our and the fate of the world. That its not predetermint. OR:.. There is something way to powerfull making it so that OUR fate is in her hand.. Not in the hands of what is more natural. Azeroth weaves our fate. And she protects us from harm. Whille we fight for her. Just look at how many times in the game we would have been killed. But we have survived. Because the hand of fate was FORCED.
after listening to all this ive come to the conclusion that theres either going to be a shadowlands patch or the expansion after set on etherials and we're going to get etherials as playable races (likely void and normal ones seperately, possiblly one for horde and the other for alliance.. and with locus walker and the void elves on alluance, i'd say void etherials probably join the alliance)
I love my Ethereal Soul Trader battle pet. Stealing souls since Burning Crusade. He gives me an Ethereal Credit for each soul I allow him to steal. Given what we know about Shadowlands, it’s become a more interesting arrangement. Are “pre-anima” souls somehow more valuable? And why just a few of them following around a few heroes rather than a more complex soul farming operation?
While I understand that Blizz can't make expansions solely about one single topic, because that would so outrageously monotone and would burn out people very fast... They cannot use the second extreme and make an expansion about EVERYTHING like in BFA again. This is another thread that we discover suddenly goes on BFA. And despite its a really small thing, and despite it's good they created these hooks beforehand... It only amplifies the feeling that BFA is a chaotic mess where everything and nothing happens. If they want to make an expansion about Etherials, great. Maybe expansion about Etherials and Void. Great. Maybe add the Light to the mix to add them an enemy. Maybe sprinkle in one small character driven side story too. But not like 50 more plot threads like with BFA. At this point, nobody knows not only what's going on, but if it even has any meaning.
She's not really that bad, she's just watching us so she can properly launch her new line of fashion and make sure it's something the beings of Azeroth will actually be interested in! Let the woman sell her stuff man!! They're clearly using all these rare materials just to ensure that the visual aesthetic is strong enough to appeal to our high-class tastes.
could the ethereals be pooling power for xal'atath? she did say she destined for greatness! (thoery) what if shes taking in the essences of titans/old gods she already does it to blood and souls and i also noticed in the 8.1.5 questline when we free her 1 of the 3 items we hand in to bargain for her freedom looks like a ethereal crown. i also want to mention in the legion expansion when your going to retrieve xal'atath the boss you kill to get it is in a room that look AWFULLY like yogg sarons room you can see the chains on the ground and the place is in ruin. its interesting to see that in the brawlers guild (as per this video) we see a vision of yogg sarron made by a ethereal. thats my thoughts on it they might mean somthing they might not but could xal'atath try to pool power to make herself into a voidlord??

I wonder how they'll handle "catch-up" when Shadowlands comes out. I haven't played BFA since they sent us to Zora's Domain by draining all that water/maelstrom thing, got bored and quit. Now see all these dark vision things with eyeballs and... meh. No desire to start. So yeah, wonder how my main will be able to catch-up in early Shadowlands content.
I can't wait for the time that a group of Ethereals are able to revert the Void distortion their bodies went through. This way we could have'm as Allied races with new - and better costumizable - models.
By this idea they could still have a very intimat connection with the Void and Arcane, Being able to become Powerful Mages, Warlocks, and Priests. Of Course Warriors by - default - and Hunters.

I think Blizz may introduce Ethereal's as a playable race, but they will start out neutral just like Pandarians do. They are gathering information on us in order to decide whether or not we are viable allies and also they know that N'zoth is not really dead and it was his intention to be killed. This will all tie into Sylvanas and the Jailer. I do believe that since Sylvanas was corrupted long ago and played a part in all of the events that happened in BFA, the Ethereals realm in the void has maybe since been corrupted too and they are in search of other allies. Allies that go to the Shadowlands when they die, because they can't fully deal with the corruption because it hides in the Maw of the Shadowlands, a place that void creatures can not travel to. Just my opinion.

My theory, having played WoW since launch: Like all other "hidden plots" in WoW since early Vanilla, just another McGuffin/MacGuffin plopped there maybe with an original intention in mind to have a full storyline of its own but ultimately simply there to drive whatever other story along and entice player speculation...ultimately going nowhere.

It's all very interesting but right now it's too nebulous to really put forth any ideas who the different Ethereals are serving. I've always had a thought they are hoarding power to serve themselves in some way given their origins.
Shadreen is a nod to the watchers from marvel comics who observed the happenings but are not allowed to intervene.
I want to know why the transmog ethereal in new Dalaran has a cup of coffee. It can't be to drink, because it would just spill all over the floor underneath him.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but it’s often stated that the Void Lords are the rulers of the Void, but has there even been mention of the Light lords, or entity counterpart. In the Chronicle, light and void (two separate entities) collided and created to universe the void is often referred to or in reverence a place of existence which is ruled over by the Void Lords, and the Light is simply that, the Light, no singular authority. A void/light expansion idea sounds interesting and climatic... considering those two are the beginning of all they two could be the end... imo

i think these lore videos are awesome, love figuring out the big pictures secrets in the game that could lead to some insane things revealed in the future like upcoming expansions. Cant wait for shadowlands
I didn't hear you say the name in the video but I cannot be the only person who looks at Shadreen, see's her Crown, knows her name is Watcher, and didn't think instantly of Xal'atath, the Black Blade, the container of an Ancient being Xal'atath, who watched as we survived the Legion onslaught only to venture forth into the cosmos. I mean right? I'm not the only one here am I? I mean, her crowns central piece looks A LOT like the original form/color of the dagger.
We have a couple of questions right now.. 2 that came to mind. 1st is.. Anima.. What is it? Is it really soul energy or whatever its called.. But then what was Inside of Ra-Den? In Throne of thunder. We clearly see Anima is blood like. But we also know that this was taken FROM Ra-Den. So did the titans use Anima to create the Titan Keepers. As in stealing anima.. to forge powerfull beings. Which is why the more powerfull Titan Keepers are so powerfull and unique. Compared to the more mechanical and stuff titan keepers we see in BFA. Ra-Den was also able to get corrupted.. Was that maybe because of Anima? As its life fluid or something.
2nd. Is Azeroth maybe the Titan of FATE. As we have been the champion of Azeroth. And time and time again, we have conquered fate. When we should have died. We were kept alive. Spirit keepers. When in the Nighthold, the Grand Magistrix Elisande. Says that SHE can foresee the future.. And in the one she saw.. We died.. But we didnt. We defeated her. Telling us that we are above time, we are above fate. We shape our and the fate of the world. That its not predetermint. OR:.. There is something way to powerfull making it so that OUR fate is in her hand.. Not in the hands of what is more natural. Azeroth weaves our fate. And she protects us from harm. Whille we fight for her. Just look at how many times in the game we would have been killed. But we have survived. Because the hand of fate was FORCED.

after listening to all this ive come to the conclusion that theres either going to be a shadowlands patch or the expansion after set on etherials and we're going to get etherials as playable races (likely void and normal ones seperately, possiblly one for horde and the other for alliance.. and with locus walker and the void elves on alluance, i'd say void etherials probably join the alliance)
I love my Ethereal Soul Trader battle pet. Stealing souls since Burning Crusade. He gives me an Ethereal Credit for each soul I allow him to steal. Given what we know about Shadowlands, it’s become a more interesting arrangement. Are “pre-anima” souls somehow more valuable? And why just a few of them following around a few heroes rather than a more complex soul farming operation?
Remember the good old days when the story was something akin to 'there's a big fucking dragon, go kill it.'

Funny you mention the idea of seeing Ethereals in the Shadowlands, because I believe there are some known as the Brokers.
Those shadowy eyes on void ethereal gear are like old god eyes but void. Void gods confirmed.

While I understand that Blizz can't make expansions solely about one single topic, because that would so outrageously monotone and would burn out people very fast... They cannot use the second extreme and make an expansion about EVERYTHING like in BFA again.
This is another thread that we discover suddenly goes on BFA. And despite its a really small thing, and despite it's good they created these hooks beforehand... It only amplifies the feeling that BFA is a chaotic mess where everything and nothing happens.
If they want to make an expansion about Etherials, great. Maybe expansion about Etherials and Void. Great. Maybe add the Light to the mix to add them an enemy. Maybe sprinkle in one small character driven side story too. But not like 50 more plot threads like with BFA. At this point, nobody knows not only what's going on, but if it even has any meaning.
I wonder if they would have added more to the story in 8.3.5

I would bet that the expansion after Shadowlands deals with a full on conflict between the Light and the Void.
She's not really that bad, she's just watching us so she can properly launch her new line of fashion and make sure it's something the beings of Azeroth will actually be interested in!

They're clearly using all these rare materials just to ensure that the visual aesthetic is strong enough to appeal to our high-class tastes.

could the ethereals be pooling power for xal'atath? she did say she destined for greatness! (thoery) what if shes taking in the essences of titans/old gods she already does it to blood and souls and i also noticed in the 8.1.5 questline when we free her 1 of the 3 items we hand in to bargain for her freedom looks like a ethereal crown. i also want to mention in the legion expansion when your going to retrieve xal'atath the boss you kill to get it is in a room that look AWFULLY like yogg sarons room you can see the chains on the ground and the place is in ruin. its interesting to see that in the brawlers guild (as per this video) we see a vision of yogg sarron made by a ethereal. thats my thoughts on it they might mean somthing they might not but could xal'atath try to pool power to make herself into a voidlord??

I wonder how they'll handle "catch-up" when Shadowlands comes out. I haven't played BFA since they sent us to Zora's Domain by draining all that water/maelstrom thing, got bored and quit. Now see all these dark vision things with eyeballs and... meh. No desire to start. So yeah, wonder how my main will be able to catch-up in early Shadowlands content.

I can't wait for the time that a group of Ethereals are able to revert the Void distortion their bodies went through. This way we could have'm as Allied races with new - and better costumizable - models.
By this idea they could still have a very intimat connection with the Void and Arcane, Being able to become Powerful Mages, Warlocks, and Priests. Of Course Warriors by - default - and Hunters.
I would like the ethereals to have a major role in a future expansion so we don't run out of plotlines after this whole voidlord boogeyman thing
This is why I suspect the old gods storyline is done. Blizzard is prepping for new storylines.
