    WoW! I just fixed my daughter's '04 Explorer Sport Trac from this video. I didn't have a soldering iron that small, so I used a finishing nail heated up with a propane torch. Same exact diode as in this video. Thanks for posting this for us!

    All I can say is thank you. The compass and temperature went out on me several years ago after I bought the truck. And today I decided to see if I couldn't get it working again, and ran across this video. I thought about just trying to find another one. On ebay or in a junk yard. But this simple trick fixed it.

    Just fixed mine today thanks to your video! Not sure if I would've had to take it all apart, as I believe the unplugging & re-plugging it back in is what did the fix! Might try that before disassembling completely. 🤔

    I just fixed the 2003 Ford F-150 that we got for my stepson with this method on the 510 chip at the end (closest to the center of the circuit card) and it worked! Thanks so much for making this video!

    I wouldn't have believed it but after seeing this video, I tried it myself on a 2004 Pontiac Montana overhead display and it worked!! My display was also dim and all I did was re-melt every solder point that I could easily reach. It works now! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

    I fixed it! I'll have to admit though, my first attempt to solder the first 510 resistor was U-G-L-Y. It came off too, completely. I thought it was over at that point but I childishly soldered it back. I only did the first 510 due to my horrible soldering job. Was afraid to touch anything else until I saw if that may have fixed it or killed it entirely. Plugged it back in and it WORKED. Thanks for the video and comments. $14.00 for soldering iron and solder from O'Reilly's Auto Parts and a few minutes - saved me $45 for a replacement.

    Kinda longish video but Detailed so you know every step. When I took my console down a tiny black bit fell out w/ the number 510 on it. From watching this video I knew just what to do. Thank you. I took mine to the work bench and began to add solder to the 510s. One of them came loose and came off completely. I took my time to reset it and touched both the contacts front and bottom of all 5 of them. It wasn’t pretty but when I did a quick connect test with the display it worked. I was amazed. Worth the time to try this yourself even if your soldering skills aren’t that great. Thanks for the how to video.

    I got lucky. After I took my module apart and got to the circuit board, I determined that I was missing one of the "510" resistors. At first I thought that maybe it failed, and blew up and there was nothing left. But, then I read a comment about someone having one fall out, and he tucked it into his cup holder, not knowing what it was. It was getting late, and I got my flash light out, and retraced my steps from the truck. And there it was, on the floor of my garage! Soldered it in, put the module back together, and YEA! IT WORKS! The real question is "What is the root cause of this failure?". Bad solder joint, causing resistance and heat melting the solder? Or a design issue that causes too much heat?

    • @killrspeed00
      @killrspeed00  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm glad you found it and it all worked out. I believe it's bad solder joints / junk solder.

    • @anthonybischof7314

    • @killrspeed00

    This issue seems common across Ford's SUVs and trucks. From research I did years ago it's due to overheating (most likely due to being mounted overhead where the roof receives a lot of heat from sunlight) and it weakens the solder joints at the pads. Essentially a poor design on Ford engineering.

      Yes most definitely is. They could of used cheap weak parts for repair money.

    Perhaps the fix was just unplugging and replugging the connectors because the connectors lost contact over time?

    You're telling me you just can't pop the thing out and replace it you have to replace the board?

    • @killrspeed00
      @killrspeed00  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can just replace the resistor or anything on the board for that matter.
