I live 40 mins away from John. My wife bought me VIP tickets to the Arnold for my birthday this year, and honestly I was most excited about hopefully meeting John. John's been "with me" over the past 3 years as I've started and continued my recovery from opiate addiction, gotten into fitness, and started bodybuilding from scratch as a 33 year old, started my own family, etc. He'll never know how many lives he impacted like mine, people he never met, yet he was their personal hero. He was mine.

John was actually who introduced me initially to your content, Eugene. I had messaged him and he recommended going to check out your stuff. He seemed like such a genuine, down to earth guy and a great father. In every video I've seen of him if he was collaborating with someone else, he always seemed present in the moment, listening to them. He was the one person in the fitness industry I wanted to meet. This hurt way more than I thought it would.

John was the one who really pushed me to start making regular content on TH-cam. He was absolutely relentless with it. Every time we'd catch up we'd film half a dozen videos together to add to his bank of several more already saved ready to post so he never ran out of free information to provide to his audience.
If you haven't already, there's so much content on his channel that you ought to be checking out 🙏

He was truly a master of not only his craft but also just being human. Being someone most couldn't even pretend to be. Humility at the highest level. I'll miss his videos and the ability he had in grounding me just from listening to him talk about pretty much anything. I hope his videos continue to make their way around to the younger generation. This story makes me emotional. They say never meet your heroes in real life because they always disappoint and yet here is an example where your hero turns out to be everything you thought he was. I just started watching fitness youtubers again 2 months ago and have watched SOO many moutaindog1 videos, noticing just 2 weeks ago that there haven't been any new videos in over a year.

  • @deadliftsdeathmetal1674

That seminar you arranged with John was where I met both of you, and I still think back on it very fondly.
If it hadn't been for that event, I wouldn't have had the opportunity to meet him, nor to feed him (and be a part of his website ever since) or to be trusted to look after a client as an online coach on his team.
I don't think anything I could say would ever take away from the sadness that you must feel - but I have always seen John in you and vice versa.
Your dedicating to sharing knowledge, desire to try new things and business integrity is just as prevalent as his was.
No wonder he took a chance on you Eugene - it wasn't a chance at all.

Nice tribute, Eugene. I’ve watched more than a few of John’s videos and have always enjoyed them and also learned quite a lot, in the process. I remember one, having nothing to do with training at all, I think, where he talked about his nickname, Mountain Dog. John was a lover of that breed, The Bernese Mountain Dog and having had the pleasure of living with one for about ten years or so, I share his enthusiasm for the breed. They’re wonderful, good natured, happy go lucky dogs and very lovable. I think those dogs are a lot like John was, personality wise and may be part of the reason he loved them so much. RIP John and thanks very much for all you taught us.

I discovered john first, randomly on youtube while i was looking for a new way to workout in the gym, every videos he did destroyed me when i put in practice at the gym, from the first one, i knew, he was it. I became a fan right away, he was kind and carrying and even if he was squatting the weight of a house, he was humble. I loved how he workout with his wife in the video and was a family man. Throw out his videos, i discovered you eugene. And got curious too, and find out you were in the same kind of mentality than john. His death hits harder than i tought, i never saw the man but he made me stronger. Im glad he made me discover you. You carry his fire now. Rip JOHN. you impacted alot of people.

This was very well done Eugene. I know how hard it can be to talk about someone who meant so much. Happy to see that you found the words and shared them with us.

I'm so sorry that you lost a dear friend. I know how it feels to loose a good friend. You're an inspiration, and when I decided to change my life about a year ago, your app and training programs have played and are still playing a big part in that transformation. I appreciate all that you do and for sharing your experiences and knowledge. Myself and many others are better off for having come across your content. Keep doing what you're doing. Hugs from Spain.

My beginning about John is similar to yours. I first discovered him also on Tnation with a chest trsining article and from there I learned about the Mountaindog.
As a member of John's site, I learned about you Eugene. And bc of John I now can communicate with you and am a Ganbaru member.
Spider crawls, Bulgarian split squat dropset, slight incline presses, meadows row, rear delt swing dropset, and reverse band bench presses will always be John's notable exercises.
Thank you for sharing your experiences. I never met John but his values align with mine. A rare person to walk this earth.
May he rest and live in eternity with Christ, my grandfather, my brother, and your father.
    Thank you Eugene.
