Bought the lr4. When asked why this instead of the chimera or croc from the owner of pyrodrone I said "Dave c." They had the lr4 w/o the Vista and ordered the Vista from getfpv.
This one is a fresh breath of innovation. It has it's own category now. 4 inch ultralight long range acro quad. I never get tired of seeing your LOS flying skills.
Hey bud, I got it last week, flown it three times and the hype is real. Its the type of quad I have been waiting for just to roam around with my DJI system. Fantastic....
Thanks Andy. I had already ordered mine, and have been waiting for a few weeks. But now I feel more convinced that I made the right choice. Love your videos. Keep it up!
I've got one on order! Analog v2 with the upgraded 850mW VTx. Plan to give it mismatched color props for line-of-sight too. So cool. Also your line-of-sight skills remain enviable. I hope to some day be half that good.
Your so correct. Gps rescue is something you need to practice and I would highly recommend having xfire gps telemetry setup and having it drop. Your accelerometer has to be really well calibrated after every crash. Drop is definitely the better option unless the other is loosing the quad anyways
Taking off without a fix is the issue with the gps. I found a whole bunch of gps models had issues with slow locks then I tried glonass only ones and they lock quickly.
My experience with GPS rescue mode has been very positive so far. I've tested it many times and setting it as failsafe has spared me a few walks across the field. I would highly recommend activating the use of Galileo sattellites if the GPS module supports it (not sure about the LR4's module). Just set "gps_ublox_use_galileo = on" in the CLI and save.
@@kibbycabbit Many GPS modules can use Galileo satellites additionally to GPS and Glonass satellites. That means you will get more satellites, a faster fix and higher precision with no disadvantages.
Does the naked GoPro degrade GPS reception? On mine it causes satellites to randomly drop in and out. It's hard to believe I can't find anybody else who observed this.
I'm well lucky then. I've had mine a month but I did pull the trigger the second it was listed😎 Totally agree with your sentiments regards GPS, it's totally hit or miss when you flick that switch so be ready!😯 Anyway a concise synopsis as ever Andy🧐
Hi Andy! I finally received mine last night .. waited over two months. I also ordered the gp7 naked. This will probably be a silly question but my lr has two sets of wires hanging off the top.. one obviously to power the gopro.. but I have no idea what the other is for.
Hey Andy. Could you please make a video on how camera mounting affect the jello (something you mentioned in passing on this video)? How hard mount vs soft mount vs TPU mount affects the jello, and what is best strategy to minimize jello overall?
⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️ 5 star review, that is how a review is made. Closer look of the drone talking about its characteristics then a fly around, but this LOS kills itto see it propperly Thanks
Yeah, the GPS receiver is a cheapo with no compass onboard either...badly sighted too under the vtx stalk...The answer of course is to load it up with iNAV..Not only a rock solid RTH, but autoland too...It works..Will it tune up for Freestyle?...Why not?
I ordered explorer because Dave c.. others didn't come out yet.. but still haven't gotten it. Analog r9mm. Thinking might give up and change.. I'll lose naked gopro though and batteries. But RMRC will make u 1300 and 1500mah xt30 batteries
I'll use angle mode with this once mine finally arrives - supposed to be Tuesday after waiting since Aug 16, and I even ordered the analog one. Is it possible to set a throttle hold somehow on OpenTX to get it to fly sort of like a DJI drone? like, a switch that locks throttle at a certain level or something? Also, would it be possible to replace the GPS with one of the integrated compass models?
@@AndyRCchannel Thanks for the reply. The binding is ready. When AIR MODE, which was assigned to AUX2 in the mode setting, was removed, LQ became normal and ARM was created.
I am super anxious to do acro with mine, the one thing that really stops me is the fc and esc are connected via pins. the fc is soft mounted from the esc and i can only imagine its a matter of time before it breaks. it fly super good, smooth, 12min on a 750mah 4s. there is pads to direct solder the fc to the esc. what do you think?
I am using this FC in toothpick and I have crashed it probably a 100 times without any issue. I think the pin connector is ok for 16x16mm stacks but not anything bigger. Anything will break if the crash is hard enough but it should not break from normal abuse.
I was really wondering about iNav on this model and if it's worth it for something like light freestyle mountain surfing and longer range endurance where recovery might be more near impossible... 🥃 cheers 🍻
As far as I know, iNav requires a compass for the return to home to work and the LR4 does not have it. Your could change out the GPS unit but the FC does not have any spare ports to connect the compass so you have to swap out the FC as well to one with more available ports. That start to add up in costs.
At first I wondered, which version of LiftOff you were using, it looked so realistic 🤣 This year I've been flying nitro planes a lot and very quickly got used to 10 minutes (plus) flight time. This might be good to "cool down" to get used to the usual flight times again.
the latitude and longitude are recorded into the google, if you see via the googles, you have like a switch to have the osd on yours recods, with all the screen so you have the last point gps, you have to turn this on, and voila ;)
A tip for getting gps lock faster is to power up the fc via USB port while your setting up using a power bank, that way you dont power on your vtx. I've found i get a lock within a minute. If i try getting a lock by powering up the whole drone theres times where i'll just never get it to lock on to a good signal.
Those warnings are just because betaflight has to account for builds that aren't quite so clean. If it's a good quad I have found best filtering practice will almost always give you those warnings. As long as motors not hot I'll take the sliders even farther.
Would love to see a vid of a long flight (Not long range) freestyle mod of an LR4 prebuilt... there are bunch of long range acro builds, but seeing this video and your take on this drone... Would love to see a MOD of this drone for long flight time acro. (Why a MOD? and not a scratch build: If anyone has a prebuilt LR4 an loves it! but wouldnt mind to spend a bit of cash to level up its freestyle potential... a couple of cheap basic changes. Maybe loose the gps, tri props, or a frame swap same electronics... bla bla yada) Imagine a 4 inch frestyle build that could run at least 20min flights?
Goddammit. Waited patiently for this review, but gave up this very morning and ordered the one from GEPRC, the Crocodile Baby. Bit of a punt, but it looks good at least

Will say that mine is a horrible experience - waited 2 months for the analog version, it flew 90 sec with horrible reception (like, could barely get past 15 feet.) After that the VTX cut out entirely, it fell and broke an arm and a motor. The motors are out of stock forever, so that means more waiting, and of course the motor wont fix whatever is wrong with the VTX, which now only outputs blackscreen. I've seen posts saying the VTX is wired wrong, I dont know if thats the problem but somethign is clearly not right. What a mess and regret.
my Hubsan 501s flies 20 minutes. Has GPS, return to home. Goes 1.5 miles away. Has a monitor and a radio. I paid less than $130. I am trying to find a reason to buy the LR4 . The hubsan is a cheap drone, but I never had a problem and if I do go out of range it does return home. it might be just a toy, but a toy I can afford to loose. The LR 4 inch stuff with a gopro is about $700 I cant afford to lose. I do think it's a great drone, but I am waiting to see what else comes out as LR under 250 grams will soon be the way to go.
