  • I found this Brand new Simpson Clothes dryer on the side of the road. It was badly damaged so I thought I'd have a crack fixing it. This video is mostly time lapsed but in various stages I highlight links to other DIY repair videos I've made teaching you how to fix certain parts of the machine. All links are listed below. The following videos also relate to the Electrolux and Westinghouse fully automatic clothes dryers. Both those dryers are exactly the same as the Simpson but are the fully automatic versions where as the Simpson is a manual timer dryer.
    I also replace the motor start capacitor in most of my repair videos, so if you need to do that just choose a video :)

    hi, i got a newer faced electrolux the other day to repair....the heater wasnt working....i took it out, seemed to test alright, the heater is half the size of the normal sized ones,i was totally shocked,!!!...it also had about 3 less plastic clips that hold the drum in and its a 7kg dryer!!!... put a normal sized heater in now it works fine..... so everyone buy secondhand older models,as there cost cutting new dryers are made to break................ i just read your bio and was surprised to read your in SA,i thought your area looked so warm and lush that you lived up north.....so i hope you post a video soon as i think your channel is wonderful and its lovely to see people who have similar values,i also learn alot......thanks for all your hard work 🌿

      Melissa hi, so sorry for the delayed reply. I just had hernia repair surgery so my life's been tossed upside down a fair bit recently. And thanks for the really nice comment! It's one of my faves 🙂
      And we all learn from each other. In fact you just taught me something just now. And it's something that I've been curious about for a while. I always wondered if the regular sized heaters worked in the newer models. You just confirmed that they do. You even confirm that they fit. I wasn't expecting that! Why make them smaller then? In the video I posted a little while ago about comparing the newer Simpson's to the older ones I made a special note about that heater size. Thanks heaps for the heads up, it's really great knowing they're compatible 👍
      And you're so right. It's appalling that they've made these newer style dryers so crap quality wise. Getting yourself one of the older models and maintaining it is definitely the way to go 😀

    As funny as it might sound the current version of this Dryer the Westinghouse EasyCare 4.5kg, I do actually recommend it as a brand new dryer if someone is after a dryer that isn’t too fancy and just does the job then I’d say that these ones even though they are cheaper made are probably a winner.

    hi, when the fan gets that washer impression,why dont you try to clean up the plastic until its flat and then add an extra washer(maybe thinner).... i love all your content,thank you for all that you share.....🌿

      Hi Mel, yeah some people actually try doing that. But in my experience they're never really the same once they begin to go. It's been a while since I looked into it but I think it's because it's already been squished down past the top ledge of the post it connects to (or something like that). I see lots of them that have been modified and they always seem to come loose again. I don't really have an issue replacing them because all my parts are pretty much free anyway.
      And thanks so much, it's been a while since I've heard from you 😎

    I recently replaced the capacitor following your videos. Now the dryer doesn’t stop even when the clothes are dry. How do I check the sensor?😊

    • @DIYDumpRat
      @DIYDumpRat  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there. Hmmm, first of all replacing the capacitor will have no affect on the heat sensor or why it's now not working correctly. It's just a coincidence unfortunately. But it also may not be the heat sensor. It might be the computer not reading it correctly also. A hard thing to pin down unless you have multiple parts to replace with and trouble shoot. Hopefully you just disconnected the wire leading to the sensor accidentally.
      The best part about Electrolux and Westinghouse fully automatic dryers are that they have manual timed cycles as well. So you can still use them safely. You just need to choose a 30, 60, or 90 minute cycle. A much better option than fully automatic most times as those timed cycle help you save a lot more money in running costs.
      But if you want to look into the heat sensor and what might be happening and how to fix it I did make a video a while ago doing that exact thing to a machine. Here's the link, hope it helps 👍

      @@DIYDumpRat thanks again. I just found the reason. Because of the stronger motor, all the dust was blown to the filter at the end of the exhaust pipe. Hence blocking the air flow. After clearing that up the dryer worked as usual.

    Hi Isky, I'm in Sydney and have a simpson 4kg dryer that stopped working....
    Pulled it apart, and the motor, belt, tensioner are all good. If i give the dryer drum a little push when I start it, it goes.
    The big capacitor next to the motor is popped, would that be the problem?

    • @DIYDumpRat
      @DIYDumpRat  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      100% the problem. Replace that and you're good to go. Grab an 8uf motor start capacitor for a Simpson Clothes Dryer from ebay. I think I've got a video or two showing you how. But I usually replace them in most of my videos anyway. Very easy procedure 👍
