    I have recently tried the lifting the foot technique and have found my ball striking is improved. I believe it is because when my feet are planted I move my weight to the right in the backswing to get more rotation. Lifting my left foot has fixed that.

    I have always had an issue with flexibility.i stretch before every practice range session. For years, I kept my left heel down and I struggled with making solid contact with the ball. 2 weeks ago, I was playing and I got stiffness as I made my back swing. I remember seeing other PGA Golfers lift their left heel as they completed their backswing. I gave it a try and I was amazed. The best feeling I received with lifting my left heel was the rhythm and trigger I got for my downswing. When I lifted the left heel and then pushed it down, I was able to turn all my stored energy into the ball and complete my swing into a balanced finish.AWESOME‼️ I have wedges into par 4s again. Great Subject! Good Vid... thanks.

    Personally found my lead knee, back and lead hip in pain after planting the heel since age 16. Could hit, with a heel lift, a sand wedge 120, persimmon driver around 280 (modern range balls). Since planting it, I barely got sand wedge 95 yards, and modern driver was going 250 max. Since releasing the heel as of late (last month or so) I've got 99 percent of my power back, and accuracy. Haven't played in a time, will get out there and do it. Personally for me a planted heel messed my swing up.

    A golf instructor once told me I should imagine my left heel glued to the ground. Following that stupid advice, I screwed up my swing, lost 20 yds on my driver, and ended up hurting my back. Lesson learned -- be skeptical of what people tell you. What may work for some people, doesn't work for everybody.

    I lift the left heel naturally in my back swing (don't know I am doing it) so for me i want to keep doing it as it keeps my swing natural feeling.

    Very useful. I have been conscious for a while that I lifting my left heel and as a result, starting to sway. I feel more stable with the foot anchored.

    Struggled for last two years (after a 14 year hiatus) with varying success keeping my weight on the front foot (Stack and Tilt) while being unable to make a proper full and expansive turn (50 y/o and 225 pounds) and having to time my hit precisely with the resulting short swing.
    Today I started lifting my lead heel so that I could get my trail shoulder high and open my chest away from the target in the backswing. It was like a magical fix for everything that had ailed my short and fast swing.
    I now have time to get back to the ball from the inside, which I trigger by planting my lead heel back down.
    I feel I have a swing now and that I'm not just hitting at the ball, which wasn't too bad when diligently following the Stack and Tilt manual. But that's a long checklist for every shot. And I always felt uncertain as to the outcome.
    My drives were 20 yards longer and more consistent and my irons were a club longer with not the hint of a fatty, which I has been my Achilles heel (excuse the pun) when coming over the top when not cold or tired.
    I was sure there had to be a more natural way.
    Now I feel I can visualise the club path in my mind before making a swing.
    I have just that extra fraction of a second and in a golf swing, that's everything.
    And suddenly I have a swoosh.
    For anyone struggling with range of motion, I cannot recommend this move more.

  • @jcloyd2004

    I think most people have the concept on this one. A bigger swing, or "going for it" seems like it would be beneficial to lift the heel. I saw an article on the great drivers of the golf ball and it had the front foot being planted until directly before impact and the foot actually leaves the ground, opens, and comes toward the center of mass more. It takes pressure off of your lead knee and takes the nagging injuries out of play. Loved the video though. Maybe it will open some eyes on "robot" swings not always being the answer.

    I naturally lift my heel on my backswing like you mentioned from limited range of motion. Doing so gives me an extra 8 or so inches of backswing.

    Gonna try this once I head to the range.

    Thanks for the comparison and commentary. I've been doing it involuntarily despite having a decent range of motion, and I think it's led to some inherent instability and excessive movement in my lower body that gets out of hand if I'm not paying attention. Helps put it in perspective. Appreciate it.

    Great video Pete! Long drive guys call this "crushing the can". You pretend that an empty pop can is under your left foot when you swing. Then sort of stomp the heel down a bit when you swing thru. Think this is what Jamie Sadlowski said in a video. They say it can add yards to your drives when you get it down right.

    Great vid, made me instantly check my swing videos! I keep my left foot planted but still have an overswing so i try to limit my turn rather than enhance it. I still swing mid 120s, my feet get very active in the downswing otherwise my knees would literally snap!

  • @tadmyers413
    @tadmyers413 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I changed my backswing last year to allow the knee an the heel to come up to my left. I find that on my down swing I can shift the weight easyer and it gives me power. I have seen an increase of 10 to 15 yards. I look a jack and see how he hit a 300yard drive with a wooden driver. With the new technology we should be able hit passed 300. Just think how many yard his farthest drive would be if he had the new callaway XR driver.

    It's whatever works for you i roll onto my left big toe the pad part just a little bit but it's like he said it depends on your range of motion. I hit a 7 iron 170-175 and a driver around 270-280. So it's more or less flexibility.

    Completely agree about using that technique when you have a limited range of motion. Would love to hear your thoughts on bending the left arm at the top of the swing. With my limited flexibility, it transformed my game. I actually hit it higher and further. Basically I keep it straight until "it" wants to bend to complete my backswing. Of course me being a lefty it's my right arm :-)

  • @wreckim
    @wreckim 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    The thing about lifting the left heel is that if it allows you more practice time, free of pain, and free of injuries, it just seems logical to me that it would benefit the amateur more than complete "stability"...as the planted left heel can certainly lead to a restricted hip turn. 2c.

  • @jordantrafton
    @jordantrafton 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for sharing. Tried it out, found that a longer backswing with left heel lift gets me solid contact and a consistent draw, though with direction issues. Feels awkward and overextended but maybe I’ll hang in there. I have limited range of motion with some contact issues and usually fade/slice the ball.

    • @peterfinchgolf
      @peterfinchgolf  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Any changes to the swing are going to feel awkward to begin with. If its getting more consistent, stick with it!

    well before the 1980's or so i think the vast majority of the 'great' golfers actually lifted their left heel, Jones, Hogan, Snead, Nelson, Palmer Nicklaus Watson, Trevino, etc, those guys could play a bit and won one or two majors, there could be something to it !!!

    You need to lift the left heel, way more than you do. Lift it onto the toe , like Nicholas's and palmer etc.
    It's not just to give you more turn, but allows you to get the rotating mass, to counterfall !!!!
    To get the whole unweighted mass onto the shaft, is the only way to flex it, without manipulation!
    If anyone, tells you to keep your left foot planted, they dont know what they are talking about 😅😅😅😅
