  • In today's video, Im looking at the brand new re-amp box from Walrus Audio called the Canvas.
A re-amp box is a unit that can enable you to record raw tracks (DI) to your DAW and then to re-amp at a later date eg. using a guitar amp, or guitar pedals to enhance/ change the sound.
The Studio Rats are core band members Paul Drew on guitar/production/mixing, drummer James Ivey and Dan Hawkins on bass. They collaborate with singers and musicians to produce radio-ready songs.

What a great reamp box! I use one by Signal Art which is just called the ReAmp Box.

This is brilliant! Then take your carefully dialed in guitar tones with you on the Tonex to gigs.
I’ve made tons of captures of my beloved rare Seymour Duncan Convertible 100.

I would imagine, and you touch on it, one could use pedals as outboard effects with this on recorded material. That is: record a track, and then do a send out to an effect(s) via aux/send and wash it up. Super useful that way.

Could you do something similar using the TwoNotes Cab M+?

No. In order to reamp you need a reamp box.

Is the volume control simply an attenuation knob or does it actually amplify the signal? I'm a bit confused on how a passive reamp box has the ability to increase the volume of a sound source.

I don’t know how it’s done, best to ask Walrus about that.

How does this box compare to going straight into the amp? Any loss of dynamics? Would you say it's the most transparent reamp box you tried so far?

No loss of dynamics. To my ears yes.

@@TheStudioRats Have you compared it side by side? I'm using the Radial stuff, and it's still baffling to me how much different a guitar straight into an amp sounds compared to using an interface line out and then a reamp box. I wasn't expecting a miracle, but I wasn't expecting that much of a difference with high quality gear...

canvas reamp is better than radial?

The Volume control on all passive Reamp boxes are attenuators, they cannot boost, there's no active circuit is there? It's to bring down the 'hot' signal coming from the DAW. Probably it's even best to bring down the volume in the DAW and leave the volume control on the reamp box full up as it would (even if only slightly) change the tone (as volume controls on guitars do). The other switches are certainly useful in certain situations in some cases, but there's nothing you couldn't do in the DAW. Cheers
