Texas Mom Has Reason to Smile After Getting Teeth Fixed Rather Than Replaced by Dentures

  • A young mother discovered she would be getting her teeth fixed free of charge at Dr Kenny Wilstead’s dental clinic in Garland, Texas, on Monday, October 19.
Dr Wilstead told Storyful that 22-year-old Kelsey came into his dental office expecting to have all her teeth removed so she could get top dentures. Many of her teeth had decayed from drinking soda and smoking.
When the day finally came for Kelsey to undergo the procedure, Dr Wilstead said, “I just couldn’t do it … I’m not going to be the dentist who puts dentures in a 22-year-old girl’s mouth.”
Wilstead said he prefers to help his patient keep their teeth when possible. So he spent five hours removing all the decay on Kelsey’s top teeth and putting a cosmetic crown on each one, free of charge.
Footage shared by Dr Wilstead shows him speaking to Kelsey about the personal struggles she has with her teeth, including how she has no pictures with her son due to feelings of shame. It also shows him breaking the news to Kelsey and her mom as well as a timelapse of the surgery.
“Kelsey was beyond grateful and very emotional,” he said.
“They’re perfect,” Kelsey can be heard saying as she looks at her new smile and cries with joy.

There are so many people whose bad teeth condemn them to be social outcasts and who suffer in loneliness. Having bad teeth puts you in a despised category even if you never did drugs, people think it's the cause.

Yeah that's so true. I thought that of my neighbour when I met him back in 2005 but it turned out that he was a driver for "Pepsi" back in the 1970s and they gave him all the free pop he could drink to which he drank about 6-10 bottles of pepsi a day he said. His teeth rotted out of his face by the time he was in his mid 20s. He's had dentures ever since. Also, a friend of mine ended up with dentures by age 30 because she had a serious candy addiction :( People always say it's smokers that get rotten teeth but as you can see by the smile in my picture, I've been a smoker for 40 years and still have white teeth in good shape. *knocks on wood*

I believe it's this dentist that has offered his services free & has posted these videos on YT before. Bless this gentleman! I really hope the people living in his area flood him with new business. He didn't have to do this. Retail this procedure is super expensive. I'm sure his rational for filming is multi faceted but believe his ultimate intentions are good. He treats these patients who are probably poor with such gentleness & love. He's an example to us all.

    • @makeurownsammich2597
      @makeurownsammich2597 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

It can be hereditary, both my Mom and Grandma had to get dentures by the time they were 30. My sister and I both inherited my Moms side. I was told at 16 yrs old I would eventually lose all my teeth and sure enough it happened. My sister also needs hers done. It’s sad because people judge you hard and assume you were a drug addict, but I’ve never done drugs in my life.

Can be a dietry imbalance. One example is too much vitamin D . Lots of things can cause the teeth and bones to be malnourished. Also gum infections arent always easily
identifiable and some are resistant to reatments.

Or let's not pass over the most probable cause, their mother didn't get them proper dental care as children. It is almost an epidemic in this country, especially in poorer areas. When you need to pay rent and put food on the table many times taking your child to the dentist is the last thing you can afford. We have many families out there that are working poor. They make "too much money" to be on welfare and have insurance, but too little to afford it on their own and their jobs don't cover it, especially dental.
If you are in this category I implore you to please teach your child great dental hygiene. Brush their teeth for them, floss and mouthwash until they're at least 8 and then stand over them to make sure they are not skipping steps through the preteen years. This is twice a day at least everyday. Limit sugary drinks for special occasions and brush teeth after they drink them. I was this child. Luckily my mother took care of my teeth. I have an overbite but in my 40s and have 2 fillings and those came as an adult battling depression. This is a poor epidemic but it doesn't have to be, I say this with no judgment and only love for my fellow below the poverty line survivors. I want to see us thrive!

Watching these videos make me cry, because I have only 9 teeth. Due to no insurance for 15 yrs I was confined to my room at home with serious PTSD, anxiety, depression. I couldn’t afford help.
Now I’m living on social security rest of my life and Medicare , Medicaid.
Got diagnosed with Cancer before my dad died of Cirrhosis of liver. I have CLL and SLL
The teeth I have left are getting bad due to no insurance and no income or money to pay for implants teeth.
People don’t realize how many people have it in life. Take the simplest thing like eating and chewing and smiling for granted.
I never smoked, never drank anything bad or no drugs. Tried my best cleaning teeth under the circumstances. But health of body and time catches up faster than you can realize.
Living with cancer and S.S.I to be able to eat food and smile would be a blessing.
This young lady is blessed and lucky to have a good person help when someone is in need.
We need more people who dentist and doctors who are not only caring but go beyond their duty to help.
