    For those who can't read, the first ushanka is a Soviet cap that was captured by a German soldier who removed the star and placed his own insignia on. Soviet cap but German capture and yes 100% authentic - its why I paid $700 for it.

    • @Sean1991Guitar
      @Sean1991Guitar  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The early war models tend to be larger on the outside dimensions, They started making them with a more compact look mid war. But also depends on the factory. I make mine with vintage materials and only the most authentic looking fur I can find. Thanks!

    Hey, hope I'm not bothering you but I picked up an interesting ushanka today. It was advertised as "an older Soviet military ushanka" on ebay. It believed it was similar to the 80's configuration however I am questioning if it was ever military or just a Soviet civilian ushanka. The short cut fur is very soft in a slightly shiny pitch black color, already not your normal military because of the color and fur. The color would probably indicate it is navy, but the top is not leather. It's not that the front visor is shorter, but the area above it extends higher. The outside wool is extremely fine, in comparison to my blue 80's hat. It has a real 1980's style gold leaf with red star pin. It is also missing an "OTK" quality control stamp. All of this would indicate a fake, however the inner pattern liner is well patted-has the Cold War design with the three stripes. Now here is where it gets interesting, "Rot Front" stamp on the Middle of the linner where you would expect it to be on a military model. Says Leningrad of course, than at the very bottom "60-90." What is this a Ushanka? Would you like me the send pictures?

    • @RN2400
      @RN2400 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like an interesting ushanka, I had one that may have been made at the same Leningrad factory. If you can send me photos I can give you my best opinion. Thanks for all the details btw. Email - Tigertailzbezerk@gmail.com

      Most Soviet music was dramatic haha, nice job making one, I've never made one with real sheepskin but one day I want to grab some. Most artificial fur I find is too thin and needs cotton or wool bonded to the backside.

    Great collection. I am new to collecting but I do have the Bulgarian Ushanka. Unfortunately, the front flap wasn't stitched on when I got it, so I need my dad to see it. One question, what is a good place to find real WW2 Ushankas and is the Khaki one the 100 dollar one on Soviet military stuff?

    • @Sean1991Guitar
      @Sean1991Guitar  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there, I had the same issue with a Bulgarian arriving with the front flap not sewn on. It's an easy fix, The most common way is a simple loop stitch through the wool on the back of the visor through the wool on the top base or you can do a straight stitch directly through the front visor into the liner. It's always good to pull it through several times. The Khaki ones on that site are post war Bulgarian models marketed as originals which they are not. They are just another Bulgarian variation. The best places for true originals are Frontovik or Espenlaub :)

      Sean S Hey man, back again, was wondering about the 4th Ushanka in the video (the warmest one). Can I get a direct link to that Ushanka because it looks very cool and I need one that is more of the modern style with the warmth. I got the “vintage” Ushanka (the $100 one) off of the Soviet Military site, thinking it was that one. No regrets though because the one I got is very nice as well. And I didn’t realize those messages were two years ago holy crap time flies.

    Hello there! I'm actually in the process of buying a WW2 ushanka from a private seller, and everything that I've seen from it is from WW2. The problem for me is idk if it was used by infantry or the navy as the color is all grey, so I'd like to ask you for some help on wether or not its navy or an infantry ushanka. The condition is typical for a WW2 ushanka, and the stitching on the inside is identical to the real WW2 ushanka, so it's just whether or not it's infantry or navy, it also has a green star pin so idk if that helps.

    • @Sean1991Guitar
      @Sean1991Guitar  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Actually it is. It was made at the Samoilovo factory in Leningrad which made a large number of ushankas during the war. The Germans were well known to capture Soviet winter gear and of course the shapka ushanka was prized for headgear. There are wartime photos of wehrmacht wearing the Soviet ushanka. This one was sold to a collector last year so I don't own it anymore, But it is an immaculate piece and probably should be in a museum.
