  • Lockdown is over and it's time for us get back to bagging Munros with a trip to Meall Nan Tarmachan, near Killin before heading onto the Tarmachan Ridge walk. A 4am start saw us make the most of the fantastic weather and were rewarded with spectacular views of the neighbouring Munros of Ben Lawers, Ben Vorlich and Ben More to name a few.

      If you managed those 2 then you should find these a bit easier I think. Have you seen our video of Ben Lawers?
      th-cam.com/video/ghoC09WiDUA/w-d-xo.html I got a great cloud inversion that day.

      I’m always amazed by how far you can see from the summits on a clear day. Glad to have places like this so close to home.

    Good memories of a great day on the ridge. Attempted Ben Lawers the following week and had to turn back. Respect the conditions!

      It’s great to look back at that day, felt great to be out again. It looked like the right decision to turn back, mountains will still be there next week!

      Possibly one to get your son out on? Not too far to walk and not too much ascent. Can always just turn around at the top.

    Hi their. Is this a very straight forward path? I went up Ben lawers and Ben Ghlas the other week and loved it. Felt the path is very well kept. Will be going up myself so just want to know if the path is visible. Thinking of going up next Tuesday.

    • @HighlandHikers

      The path is very easy to follow in good conditions although we’d always recommend having a map to help.

      It was too windy that day to be able to fly the drone sadly, but not enough to make the walk unenjoyable, although I think going by how excited we were to be out again the rain would have had to have been horizontal to dampen our spirits.

    This is definitely on my to do list guys, looks brilliant.

      @HighlandHikers  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have multiple options for this as well. Do you think you'd try the circuit or go with an out and back?

      @@HighlandHikers not sure yet will need to refer to my munro book and map out routes etc. Lawers and Ghlas will hopefully get done this year as well. Managed Ben Challum yesterday and boy was that one never to be forgotten, high wind and snow that felt like I was being peltered by stones!

    • @HighlandHikers

      I can imagine there was no relief from the conditions either until the walk was over. Weather doesn’t look great for the foreseeable either unfortunately.

    Always thought this could be difficult however your video makes it look like i would manage it. Im not keen on scrambling much so good tip about the path to avoid it is appreciated. Thanks

    • @HighlandHikers
      @HighlandHikers  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad you found it useful Craig. Getting to the summit and walking along the ridge is fairly straightforward. Avoiding the scramble did lead for a steep descent however was very manageable- Alistair

    I just did it today but never went along the rigde.

    • @HighlandHikers
      @HighlandHikers  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The ridge won’t be for everyone but definitely worth considering. The worst part is the bit at the top so you can always make a decision from there. Was it a good walk today?

    • @kevinmclean3858
      @kevinmclean3858 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@HighlandHikers yeah, a great walk. My 8 year old son, our dog and I have had a week of walking, bagging 6 Munro’s (including this one), so the ridge was a step too far today. Will definitely revisit with fresher legs.

    • @HighlandHikers
      @HighlandHikers  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s pretty good going! I think Douglas might have a good chance of getting Adam up a Munro by the age of 8. I need to work on mine a bit before trying that. Which other ones did you do?

      @@HighlandHikers it was my son who added the first comment in this conversation - watching the video on our way down the mountain. He’s slightly obsessed with hill walking just now 🤣 (there are definitely worse obsessions out there). Having a base in Killin for the week has been ideal for doing Ben Lawers and Beinn Ghlas, Meall Corranaich and Meall a' Choire Lèith, Ben Chonzie and Meall nan Tarmachan (his/our 19th so far).

    • @HighlandHikers
      @HighlandHikers  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s brilliant. Definitely worse things to be obsessed with at that age! There’s a couple there I haven’t done myself so will look them up for future. Killin is a great wee place as well.
