My family has deep roots in the area. Dad's grandmother homesteaded within site of the Bluffs. When I lived there, I used to go there a lot. Funny that clerk has lived there for decades, and has NEVER been there! Dad used to race soap box derby down the hill back in the day, when he was a kid.
Scotts Bluff was an important landmark for The Oregon Trail,California Trail, Pony Express Trail, It was the second most referred to landmark on the emigrant trails. 3,891 feet elevation thanks Russ, Cool 😎 vlog !! Safe travels to you
If you're still in the area--you might want to check out the Pawnee National Grasslands, Pawnee Buttes in the corner of NE & CO. Very lovely, peaceful and serene. The buttes go on for miles.
Russ, that National Parks Senior Card is keeping a boat-load of cash in your wallet this trip. Hat’s off to the NPS, and the Department of Interior for providing this to all US Seniors 👊😎...
Whats really cool about the Oregon trail, I traveled thru Idaho, and a lot of the rest stops were actually following close to the original route. Many rest areas had actual artifacts, history about those adventurous days.
I was camping near Guernsey Wyoming last year. I asked the locals where the closest Walmart was. They said, "In Nebraska". I laughed at first, but they weren't kidding. 70 miles to Scotts Bluff, it was a nice town. A good Walmart with colorful characters.
When you look east and see all that rolling farm land, that's what you will see the ground look like all the way to Pennsylvania. You can imagine all the grain and ag products produced to feed the nation on that ground. I'm straight east of where your at on the west bank of the Mississippi river. Have lots of fun traveling here. Happy trails.
That was spectacular and what view. On a western trip some years ago this was omitted from the itinerary in favor of Fort Laramie NHS. Both parks are situated along the old trail routes used by western settlers. So hope to get back that way one day.
Nebraska has the Sandhills. North of I80 is all Sandhills and dunes. It's really not that flat. Sadly, most people go through i80, the flattest parts of the state.
Wildcat hills is just south of Scott’s bluff and is a very cool place to camp. Did you check out Fort Robinson on your way south? It’s definitely worth a visit.
Love Fort Robinson! We found it by accident..we stopped for gas and someone told us about it we stayed for two days..I want to go back so beautiful there!
Russ you hit the jack pot with no fee to get in and loved going through the tunnels. Awesome views from up there. At least you can keep going and not worry about ice and water. Thanks you so much as I didn't know about the place and will have to look it up now. Take care and safe travels.
So glad you went west when you hit Nebraska. We went East & South a few years back & there is a great sand desert in Nebraska. Nothing there but giant ant hills. No trees, No wildlife, I was afraid to stop there. Just kept going & made our way home to Kansas City
Good Day Russ . That Scots Bluff Neb. was realy cool . I had never heard of that park . great view .That was a good tip on how low the 3 tunnels are . great video Be Safe .See you on the next one
Virginia must be behind...our FOUR Wal-Mart's in this town are ALWAYS slammed. But my husband is a mail carrier and there are PLENTY of packages, so who knows.
Been to Scotts Bluff , NE some yrs ago picked up aload of navy beans took them to NY City, in Scotts Bluff two white boys and a older black gentlemen, it took them 45 minutes to load my truck,400 bags at 100 Ibs a bag, got the load to NY and it two Mexicans all day to unload the truck.
Hi Russ! Such a neat drive through the tunnels! What great history at Scotts Bluff National Monument. So glad you didn't encounter a rattlesnake! Safe travels!
Enjoyed the trip. Now i know why its called council bluff . Im in Florida , so much traffic here. Refreshing to see open roads again. Use to live in Casper Wyoming, you should take us up on casper mountain. 8000 ft on top. Use to drive up that mountain years ago, dont think I'd do it now. Hair pin turns. Maybe they put more rails up and it isnt so scary now. Thank you for sharing your travels with us. 🤗👌 👍here's some palm trees from hot humid rainy Florida. 🌴🌴🌴
I was wishing you would have put the drone up while you was on top.Maybe next time .. On the other end of Nebraska in the north east we have the Iona Volcano . Not quite as high as Scotts Bluff .But cows a 1/4 mile away from the base of it look like ants. Its just north of New Castle Just a few miles down river from the bridge that goes over to Vermilion South Dakota.Last time up there i seen a coyote surrounded by about 15 wild turkeys .Highway 12 is on the old out law trail & if you find the right people they will tell you where the Devils Nest is at up that way .
Golly how do you afford to do all this. I am Rex R. Bahr Born on a Farm 7 miles South of Bassett nebraska 07-23-1935 I passed through Scotts Bluff and the Mosquitoes almost tipped my mini home over, trying to get in. I have never been up to the Monument and now I am old and have PTSD which make me afraid of most everything, Traffic, People, Water. When you are up north in Nebraska stop by HIDDEN PARADISE just South of Long Pine Nebraska. Do a cruise in the East of Nebraska where the CORN, MILO and SOYBEANS ARE. How do you like the MERCEDES? Pretty ride on Hwy 71, even with no trees. Farm land is nice too. Scott's Bluff, what a neat place. Beautiful views. Lots of history. 😊👍

The story boards were at a tough angle.
Just curious, why are you going back to Quartzite in the heat of summer? As usual, nice to tag along on your travels.
Hi! Where did you stay while visiting scottsbluff? I`m parked in the Walmart parking lot and looking for a place to stay. Mark
