    Hi Russ many, many moons ago,as a high school student, I worked at that Wildlife refuge. It was a summer job through Youth Conservation Corps. It was hard work and so hot 🥵 but a great experience. As a matter of fact I still have the orange hard hat we wore. Thx for reminding me of a great time in my life.

    I lived in Golden Shores in the early 70's. Crazy teenage years. At the Topock Marina you only see a bit of the boat dock area, but back in the early 70's and before, it used to be all underwater and we would have hydro races (sm boats). All of the green coming down to the first pull off is called the Sacramento Wash. It was treacherous when Kingman got rains, as it all washed down to the Colo River from there. And the wildlife area you stopped in about 16 min mark (at the mouth of the Sac Wash) used to be completely underwater, and had the greatest fishing. It linked to the Topock Marina and Colorado River. Drone footage showed Catfish Paradise, just north of the levee and back in the day all of the area was under water, except for the levee itself. Gesh, the wild stores I could tell would make you laugh for years. It definitely wasn’t a place for teenagers as everyone was at least 65 and older and alcoholics. Nothing else to do there but drink to get you through the scorching summers. Be healthy, stay safe and many blessings.

      To our Brothers and sisters, aunts and uncle‘s in the UK: this area of Topock gorge north of Lake Havasu city is truly one of the best places you could find in the US if you like nature, fresh air and lots of sunshine. Bring your swimsuits and come and enjoy this with us as soon as our crisis ends.

    The pipeline on the AZ side goes to a pumping station and a LNG plant. I was one of the engineers who built the plant. I also commissioned it and started it up. I think you called it a truck stop. Trucks do pick up product there.

    Hi Russ, that's a wonderful restaurant at the Topock Marina and also quite the hopping night life destination. We've had lunch there on two different occasions, one time with a friend from Havasu that introduced us to the place. He has a pontoon boat we rode up from Havasu and on the second occasion we were staying in Bullhead and drove in. Order a beer at the restaurant and they have a very unique way of filling the plastic cup from the bottom up.

    Russ, i envy your life. Up in Reno...but having these 'daydreams...about driving down that way and Van Camping in my Honda Odyssey. Still trying to come to a decision on whether i'd be equipped for that...at almost 60, when...i haven't spent One Night yet... In it. Have tons however, of all the 'things'..one would need; ie; Jackery 500... Change Tent, Toilet Setup, Gas One Stove, Camp Pad and 0 degree Sleep bag, all that... Perhaps as we get more into Spring. Keep 'em coming. Love the Desert down there, as ...i'm a Vegas Native. Cheers!

    🙋‍♀️Good Morning Russ! I really enjoyed this beautiful day out with you! It looks like the trains are busy, & some traffic on the Interstate, not many people on the water, with tourism dwindling, changes are taking place around us, as they are also away from us. I couldn't believe how pretty the greenery was in that area we visited. It was like being in two different worlds. I think you surprised yourself today with the 66 sign, & going to the refuge. 👍
    P.S. By any chance did you notice the man? In the boat just over the hill from you yesterday when you put the drone up? I thought that was funny when you said that one boat was off to catch some fish, & he was there the whole time un-noticed.

    • @carrollmesser3845
      @carrollmesser3845 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The white arch bridge was used for US 66 until 1947. The Exit 1 BLM dirt road was the original railroad's (1890) roadbed back east for about three miles. Going west, the railroad ran past the tall black water tower, crossing the Colorado at a large truss bridge in 1890 that was later used by US 66 from 1947 until about 1968. The bridge was demolished in 1976.

  • @mtkids3558
    @mtkids3558 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    By Kitty O'Meara......And the people stayed home. And read books, and listened, and rested, and exercised, and made art, and played games, and learned new ways of being, and were still. And listened more deeply. Some meditated, some prayed, some danced. Some met their shadows. And the people began to think differently.
    And the people healed. And, in the absence of people living in ignorant, dangerous, mindless, and heartless ways, the earth began to heal.
    And when the danger passed, and the people joined together again, they grieved their losses, and made new choices, and dreamed new images, and created new ways to live and heal the earth fully, as they had been healed.
