My 3X Great Grandfather, Isaac Coddington, was the first lighthouse keeper of the Presque Isle Range Lights. Also Roger's Quarry was originally Crawford's Quarry founded by my ancestors. Thank you for the nostalgic trip.
That hanger is a pretty cool place. Bet that town was a busy place b4 the Air Force left. Must have been really busy during the war. I think you hit the jackpot as far as a breakdown goes.
Love seeing Oscoda again! My husband was stationed at Wurtsmith after high school in 1989. We met later in life, but he took me to Oscoada for the first time in 2009. It was like taking a walk back in time. I think it was the first trip or the return trip in 2011 that we found the Pure Michigan travel brochure. On the front was Pictured Rocks in Munising, MI in the UP. We fell in love with the UP on our first visit. We try to make it back every year, at least every other year. Lol Northern Michigan is a gorgeous place to visit! Thanks for sharing!
GOD BLESS , UNITED STATES AMERICA , RUSS, RVerTV FANS. I live in Canada - 5 miles inland - Lake Huron - Amberley Ontario. WE LOVE RVerTV - BEST TV ON TH-cam. Thank you Russ.😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
I just wanted to say thank you. My mother-in-law passed 3 weeks ago and she loved to watch your travel. She would I wouldn't be able to see these places. She always looked forward to your next video. She almost made it to 94. I just really want to thank you.
Thank you for showing off my beautiful State. Lived my whole life here and never going to live anywhere else. I got everything I need right here in Michigan.
Cool video Russ. I love seeing my homestate of Michigan. The Great Lakes are beasts. There are over 6,000 shipwrecks throughout the Lakes. The waters can get pretty rough.
LOL🤣, Yuckdonalds🤣🤣.. hey Russ, can you please mention the prices of gas in the different states you travel.. it’s $6.00 in California,(average $5.80) regular, ridiculous 😎. Thanks 🤙
Yo Russ, you've landed in my hometown Oscoda. I see you started your exploration at Three Mile Beach. My granddaughter lives directly across US. 23 from the beach is able to walk there daily. I'm commenting as you're leaving 3 Mile. Your second stop was City Beach. That was the hangout when we were young people about 100 years ago . Down behind the Ford dealer was our family farm that was established in the mid-1800s. We had our son and daughter-in-law's wedding rehearsal dinner on the Au Sable River Queen paddle boat Looking forward to the rest of the video.
When you mentioned McClellan AirForce Base in Sacramento, it brought me wonderful memories and flashbacks of when I moved there in 1977, from Hawaii.. my Band and Polynesian Show used to perform there at the Officers’ Club. There was another big AirForce Base called Mather, about 8 miles away, in East Sacramento(Ranch Cordova)..both closed. Aloha 🤙
started following you when we stayed in Quartzsite at Holiday Palms RV park. You get so close to our town of Speedway, IN. You should come for the Indy 500! We live about three blocks away. You could park in our yard!
Well now you’re in my neck of the woods and you passed my house Lol 40 mile Point Lighthouse and shipwreck is about 30 miles away. Enjoyed visiting there multiple times. I can’t say I take my wonderful Michigan for granted because I don’t but you are right winter is brutal-much rather be in Arizona 😍
so sorry about the delay in your travels. but watching this video transported me to my youth. I'm from Michigan and we belonged to a camping club.. I just love your channel. it makes me so happy to watch your videos.. hope to see you on the road soon ❤❤❤
My Dad said Supper too🤣, old school, for sure ❤️👍. Always enjoy your videos..missed seeing you at Quartzsite this year, at the Big Tent RV Show, since I was traveling to Samoa (South Pacific) and I showed my family and friends one of your videos last year at Quartzsite, you showed my RV, with “team JESUS” on the side, parked infront of the Store where you raffle off an E Bike, plus, you Russ is The Ambassador for Quartzsite 👍. Sorry about your window buddy.. safe travels and abundant blessings 🙏✋.
Russ, I'm glad that the rock only hit your window and wall of the van. That would've probably been more than just a little ouchie if it hit you. I'm still watching the video, and besides seeing the rock damage, I'm really enjoying the scenery there.
Oscoda is pronounced Os code a like the wind talkers not Os cod a like the fish. NE MI is some of the prettiest country around. Lived there for several years before retirement in FL
Russ ! That freighter Wheelhouse you were in at Calsite MI, I was in it in 1970, When I was 8 ! I have a photo standing near the railing by the door, it was located in the Rodgers City Quarry back then. Also long waited for the Van side Window 'Blow out' The same window I watched you and a friend install 5 years ago in the Lk Havasu garage. It figures a rock hit it in Michigan on the Highway, as I'm in MI. of all places., a long layover to get the part and install I see (Rare for you). Usually, it's the Windshield that takes the hit on our MI roads, rock chips !
Hey Russ, just an interesting fact regarding the canoe racing you mentioned while in Oscoda. It is a huge affair and is actually one of the longest canoe marathons in the world. It begins in Graying, Mi which is hundreds of miles upstream. Usually starts around 9P.M. on a Friday or Saturday night. Tandem teams paddle what used to be known as "222 Boats". They were 22 inches wide, 22 feet long and weighed just 22 pounds. Yes, they were fast! Racers would paddle all night in the darkness and the fastest would finish in AuSauble/Oscoda around 11A.M. the following morning. They said paddling in this race was akin to standing in front of a coal pile and throwing shovels full of coal over your shoulders for fourteen consecutive hours! Fun, eh?
Love tree-lined roads. Were those oak wood doors and window casings? Love those. Grew up in a house with those and stone fireplaces with mantels. Love old buildings. So much character. That's almost like looking out at the ocean. Bet there's a lot of shipwrecks along those shores. Good thing that rock landed where it did. If it had hit you there might be no more Russ. Sorry for the mess.
Beautiful area! . Reminded me of days when my grandmother doing crossword puzzles, listening to the baseball game on the car radio.and waiting for 4th of July fireworks !I’m not much for boats except a pontoon?!
Awesome road trip! The shipwreck memorial & the air museum were especially cool! I'm very sorry about your window breaking, that's a bummer. But definitely a beautiful place to be stuck for a little while, like you said. Greetings from central Florida.
All the trees got cut down to rebuilding a lot of big city’s there state park call Hartwick pines in Michigan, they protected the trees are over 300 years old
Awesome video. I usually take 23 from Mackinaw when heading back to Ohio. Everything I stopped at 40 mile lighthouse but it was always closed. So it was cool to see your video on it. My son and I used to tent camp at Harrisville, then head to Oscoda kayaking or canoing down the Au Sable. Great to see these sites again. So very sorry about your window. But glad you got to explore the area. Fun place.. Thank you for your videos
Yay! More videos of Michigan. Wife and I lived in Alpena way back in the early to mid 70's. Now near Iron Mountain in the U.P. Very much enjoy all your videos especially of Michigan, the Yoop and your van build. I have a question though. Did you not have any video of your travels last summer of the drive from Calumet Mi. across the Lake Superior shoreline to the Soo Locks. Watched your videos of the Western portion of the U.P (Ontonagon, Calumet, etc) and the Soo Locks and down to St Ignace, across the Big Mac. and on to Mackinac City then further south along the Sun Rise side of the Mitten along U.S.23. What became of the video that I presumed you would have M28 westward through Marquette, Munising and through The Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore? I was certain you would have stopped at the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum at Whitefish Point. You would have loved it! Many of the recovered artifacts of the Edmund Fitchgerald are on display there. Including the ship's bell. Every year on November 10th Gordon Lightfoot would contribute to the memorial celebration there in person up until his passing this last year. Just thought it curious that no video was taken along one of the most beautiful scenic drives in the midwest. Maybe it was the weather, or technical difficulties, ha, ha? I hope there is still footage of this section hiding somewhere within your vast amount of film storage waiting to be edited and uploaded. Sorry for your window incident and the delays it caused. Again, love and have watched nearly all your videos. Even went back in time to watch your archives after discovering your channel! ........... "Talk Soon"!
Can't believe you turned the 🚢 down. Nice day for a 🚢 ride. Was that a river back there or part of the lake? Is there a Navy base near Lake Huron? I know the Navy was active on all the Great Lakes during WWII.
Cut some 1/2 inch thick plexiglass, seal it in. Leave the windows cracked open a bit so it won't pop out when u close the door. Some window film & a hair dryer to make it shrink
most national, state pars and monuments were build by FDR WPA CCC which helped employe thousands of men and boys and pulled uss out of the great depression. also I think army corp of engineers built all the power oplants or helped design them. pretty important part of history.

You should've visited calcite stone quarry ,it's the largest in the USA and you can watch the freighters getting loaded and unloading

Chanute AFB in Rantoul Illinois was converted into a museum but then closed a few years ago. I’m not sure what they are doing with it now.
How come you didn't show both of the lighthouses in Presque Isle harbor?
It's called dinner if you go to a restaurant to eat, it's called Supper when you eat at home
👍
thumb 👍
Do you think the rock was thrown at you? I can’t imagine it just getting kicked up from the road into your passenger side glass.
Enjoy the videos!
Sascuach threw the rock.
My family always said supper too. I think very educated proper people would say dinner. To me, it's whatever you grew up saying.
Hi !
Hope you doing well, with God's help .
I have some questions .. .
about New Mexico ...
Did you ever encounter any strange creatures around there ?
@1:20:19. i`m a lumberjack and i`m okay, i sleep all night and i work all day...
My great god uncles great grandfather's sisters cousins mothers fathers brothers son was the very first light house keeper on an island I don't know
