These music snobs can fuck off. When electronic music was new it was ALL called Techno. It’s all just different genres of techno. This revisionist bullshit can fuck off. It’s techno. Anyone who disagrees isn’t old enough to have an opinion.
one of the most beautiful songs made to this date . the beauty and rhythm of life and then the melodic but brief dance of humanity it's like a love letter to the universe of who we were and whatever we loved.
i received this track on a burnt cd from a friend when i was just starting to get into the electronic music scene... i remember listening through headphones while laying in bed and then this track comes on... something magical happened to me those 15-some-odd years ago and i will never forget that feeling
Man what I would have given to experience this live, smh. Halcyon will always one of the great electronci music compositions ever right next to Born Slippy. I remember back when I threw parties in '99-01 it was always a good crowd draw to have either tag team sets or battles like DJ vs DJ on 4 decks or even live PA acts teamed up and I always pushed for Orbital vs Rabbit in the Moon which I thought would be amazing but we never had the budget (though we did get RITM for our 3 yr anniversary party). I always thought Underworld vs Leftfield and Uberzone vs Crystal Method would be cool too. Side note, does anyone else think a mashup of Halcyon and the vocals from Something Good by Utah Saints would be really interesting to hear??
This song was out when i went through my raver phase. I got to see it performed live so i sat up against the speaker and blew the hell up! Its one of a few songs from that era that have stuck with me. When that drop hits...... hell yes!! They dont make em like that no more.
This brings back so much high school for me, it's not funny. Usually a few good bong hits, or doobies, & it was time for some Orbital. Much like it is today...
People think “let the music move you” means physically moving to the beat. Couldn’t be further from the truth. This song moves you on the inside. Shit can literally take you far far the fuck away for an entire 9 minutes and 48 seconds.
THANK YOU for posting this version!!! I’ve owned this CD for a long time and I LOVE this live version with the vocal samples. It’s the absolute BEST!!! I don’t have a CD player in my new car so I am very grateful to have the means of listening to this amazing mix via TH-cam. 😍🙌❤️🥰👏💗😁👍
Finally !!! Been looking for this version EVERYWHERE!!!! Thanks 4 upload , i use to have the double albumn when i was 22 years old im 41 now i have no idea what ever happened to all the cd's i use to have "" Actually now that i think about it i had it on cassette , yes im a dinosaur now lol
+macks baylee Not to mention that ever so dope Bon Jovi and Belinda Carlisle mash-up towards the end and then plays the Belinda Carlisle rec backwards but sounds soooo dope! I used to show everyone that part of the song back in the day. memories for sure!
I have the first 35 mins of Coxy's set from that night and also a good part of the Orbital set as well. I'm trying to get them up on youtube soon. So keep an eye on my channel, I will deffo be putting them up.
if you could get that up, would be much appreciated! bought a bootleg tape off some bloke on O'Connell bridge a couple of days after the gig and cherished it until it was chewed. Been searching and searching online for about 15 years now with no luck :)
July 1999 at Community Service. They wore glasses that had flashlights on them and the whole stage was dark. Crystal Method also did a set. Amazing night.
During the whole "You Give Love a Bad Name" and "Heaven is a place on Earth" mashup. I remember seeing a live clip of it on MTV's amp, and I could have swore for the "Give Love a Bad Name" part. They used the bridge break down where they have the Tom and kick (four on floor) instead of the opening, Where it is just acapella singing?
Back before you children had the internet we heard shit like this on basic cable at 3am, unable to just hop online and find that obscure live Orbital track cause your podunk town doesn't even have a Tower Records and you don't actually get your hands on a copy of this until your family takes a roadtrip out to the Mall of America. Best summer ever.
It blows my mind that there is such shitty electronic music nowadays, when incredible tracks like this were released 26 yrs ago and made with the technology they had available... 26 yrs ago 🤔
love the song. Totally ruined live with the belinda carlisle and bon jovi samples. Makes it sound cheesy as fuck. Someone needs to tell them to leave them out.
I will never not get goosebumps when they flip the Belinda Carlisle sample backwards
complete ecstasy
same shit is scary
Heard it first in the 08-09 financial crisis on Zerohedge radio (finance DJs would spin live on weekends), hooked ever since
@@jonathangreenlee9805 I feel kinda bad for you. I first heard it at a house party in Baltimore in 94... i think.
I was jamming this on CD in the 90’s in high school. It’s still a hard track to find as it was a limited Disc 2 release
This makes me feel 15 years old again everytime i hear it. It never gets old. For me this is a small timestamp of happy in my life.
Same time in my life.
@@seanhiggason2270 Same. It helps that it's freakin' MASTERFUL!
One of the best live techno tracks of all time. Yeah, that's right, I called it techno. Because that's what it was, and that's what it is.
As a totally pretentious techno snob... I'll let you have this one. Furthermore, I'll admit I have no business giving it to you; it was always yours.
Spot on kidda*
I remember on Orbital’s MySpace page it said Techno/IDM so you’re not wrong ✌️🇺🇸

God I miss Orbital and their technical/musical brilliance.

It truly is a religious experience.
I went to a "christian" school and this song is still singlehandedly more spiritual than the sermons, speeches and "lessons" I heard there
#1 all time favorite song. goosebumps the whole song everytime.
Right there with you

How good is this. Even better than the album version. The audience. The jovi Carlisle cross fade. Pinnacle.
Sickest shit ever... God I miss these days...
John Barber as do I mate
Imagine nowadays
Orbital and Carl cox live in Dublin 1996 this was massive “ heaven is a place on Earth’ place was electric
First ever "mash-up" I ever heard and didn't know it, via a bumper on MTV's AMP.. 💗💗💗

My favorite version of this song.
Orbital with Carl Cox live in the Point Theater Friday 3rd May 1996..
Except they didn't use the Bon Jovi sample.

I'm guessing that right after the mashup, for the break they played the Belinda sample BACKWARDS. Check it out

Opus III's, It's a Fine Day, is in there too.
Well, the Kirsty Hawkshaw vocal bit's here. But that's in the original Halcyon track though so it's not an addition for just the live version.
