Anne Frank and her family moved to Amsterdam following the uprising of the Nazi Party in 1933. Five Years later, in 1938, Eva Schloss remembers the Nazis marching on Austria and then her family fleeing and settling in Amsterdam the same year. They found they were in the same residential square as Anne and her family. Anne and Eva although mixed in different circles found a bond from the shared experience of being displaced by the Nazis.
This was the beginning of an extraordinary story where Eva would become inextricably linked to Anne Frank and her legacy over the next 70 years. Both Eva and Anne’s family had to go into hiding from the Nazi’s, both were betrayed at different times, caught and sent to concentration camps. Eva would survive her dreadful experience in Auschwitz. Anne tragically died shortly before the Belsen Camp was liberated in March 1945.
Anne’s father Otto, and Eva’s mother Elfriede survived. They both lost their partners and other children. The Diary was discovered shortly after the war and published in 1947. Elfriede and Otto became closer, offering each other emotional support. In 1953 Otto and Elfriede married.
Eva would be one of the first people to hear Otto read extracts from the Diary, a feat which he couldn’t manage to do without breaking down into tears. Otto became a surrogate father to Eva helping her find a vocation in photography. Eva witnessed first hand the publication and dramatization of the Diary of Anne Frank. Eva would find herself more and more involved in the Anne Frank Foundation set up by Otto in 1963. In 1989 she set up the Anne Frank Trust UK which aimed to share the message of the Anne Frank foundation to challenge prejudice and hatred

What can this girl be allowed to do in the middle of this holocaust💔💔💔
Imagine the rescued people who died from over eating and the people who realize they're responsible for the liberated individual to have literally died from kindness
😊
rest in peace so sorry ope
Anne can say. can she say that, yes she can. I am the first 15 year old girl in the world to have her diary made into a film. she is she would be very proud of that.
It's sad that Margot's diary couldn't be saved along with Anne's, it would have been amazing to be able to also read her account of what happened during the war.
Yeah, we don’t know much about her life style except that he was apparently quiet, shy, and well behaved as oppose to Anne who was outspoken and outgoing.
Price of love
"If you hate, you'll be so miserable." Eva quoted Otto. A rather powerful moment given all that he had gone through.
Yup
It's very sad and painful knowing that she died a week before the allied forces captured the concentration camp where she and thousands of others were held captives. She would have been saved and continued to inspire people as a brilliant writer and journalist. RIP Anne Frank🙏 The world loves you❤️
New research has suggested that she and Margot actually died some time before the liberation, as early as Febraury 1945. Survivors of the camp who knew the Frank sisters all agree that they had symptoms of typhus in Febraury, and untreated they would never have survived until the end of March when they were orginally thought to have died :(
@@sophieallen2287 make it make sense, soo fish, can smell you. From here😮😅😊💯🤚🖐💩💩😮🤡🤚
It’s not clear just when Anne died. The sources differ and there’s some dispute. But if it was just a short time before the Allies came, it was another heartbreaking “almost there” for her. They almost missed the last train from Westerbork to Auschwitz, and would have if they’d managed another month in the Annexe. They would have ended up in a concentration camp, but at least it wouldn’t have been Auschwitz. Anne’s mother died only short weeks before Auschwitz was liberated. Another “almost”.
@@Goodiesfanful He died five days after liberation, I was shocked when that information came out.
RIP Awesome Anne!❤️✡️
I recently found a 1952 copy of the diary! I am reading it now. So worth reading. I read it years ago, but feel lucky to have found such an early copy.
I know what you mean! I just returned to my parent's old copy from 1950. I read that book when I was about 12 years old and was left awed and overwhelmed then. I think I realized for the first time how safe my life was. The book is falling apart now but somehow so precious to me. I am invaded by all these same old emotions as I am re-reading it. From Canada too.
Same name?

I visited the Secret Annex Museum in 1986. I was 23 years old at the time. I had read the diary 10 years before at 13 years of age. It was incredible to visit the Secret Annex. I could not believe how small it actually was for all the people in there. It definitely is a tribute to the human spirit of endurance and survival! We are lucky and privileged to have Anne's Diary and all the other diaries and writings that have survived this time period. Their legacy for future generations can not be over stated!
RIP to all those who lost their lives ♥️🙏🙏🙏🕊️🕊️🕊️🌹🌹🌹♥️
I visited around 8 years ago and yes, it was an incredible experience for me too. I remember running my hand along all the surfaces to connect with the ones who once lived there. It's heartbreaking that her life and the life of the others were cut so short. I'm lost for words on how the experience affected me 😢
🙏😞
Would love to visit Anne Franks secret Annexe ❤❤❤❤

I like to think she (Anne) would be proud that she got her story out there into the world.
it's fictional story written by a man lol how embarrassing for you, maybe delete your post

Jews for some reason are still not welcome in Armenia and Armenia is a Christian nation. They believe Jews killed Jesus.
It’s sickening what humanity does to each other. God bless Anne Frank and all the victims
@kevinmarch
Why ask God to bless dead people? If they were born again believers/followers of Jesus Christ, they’re in heaven, you cannot be more blessed than to be with the Lord. If they were not born again believers, sadly they’re in hell where there are certainly no blessings. I pray for the living to receive Christ as their savior, that’s the greatest blessing.

It’s amazing to think that if Miep hadn’t grabbed the diary-which would have been an easy thing to overlook-that we might not even know the name Anne Frank.
In 1976 I had the incredible privilege of seeing Otto Frank on Blue Peter & his dignity & integrity had an immediate & lasting effect on me.
Anne Frank hd the sweetest kindest smile it makes me sad beyond words!!
I read her Book and saw the movie, And in the early 70's I visited her house....
How did her house look like
This was a fictional story, how on earth have you made her real?????? Book is written by a male.
@@BotanyDegreePilkerton are you serious?? Read your own comment again then look att the video you clicked on . And why is men always involved??
Name and year of the movie?
You are sick
It's such a pity that Margot's diary wasn't found. All we know of her is what Anne wrote about. It would be nice to read her thoughts as well
Anne Frank to me is an ordinary, beautifully ordinary, young girl. She's no more or no less than any other young girl that was murdered in the Holocaust. Her, her diary, her thoughts and feelings are a recorded embodiment that represents so many millions that were effected by the Holocaust. Her story is so heartbreaking. I hope she is watching from above and knows she is loved by many many more millions than the ones that had hatred from her.
I get choked up every time I see a photo of that lovely smile of hers.
The same goes for me: I get choked up, too, when I see a picture of Anne Frank (or a photo that shows her father, mother, or sister. However, those are not shown as often as Anne Frank's)...
This morning I finished reading Anne's Diary. Sometimes it's hard and difficult to believe that such a great (and insightful) Diary was written by a girl only 14/15 years old but she was definitely born to be a writer :A very good writer indeed. And now I'm thinking of coming back to Amsterdam and visiting "The Annexe'. Peace and Love to everyone 🙏
RIP.. Anne and all the others...
I didn't realize at the time but when I read her diary I was the same age as her. She was wise way beyond her years and honest. Her story is incredibly touching and tragic.
Goodness me, what a fantastic documentary. The image of those kids licking lids for food etc. won't soon leave my mind. How cruel. I'm glad Otto found love again, a bit of renewal.
It's terrible what happened not only to the frank family but all families in that era. I always loved that era in time because of the past. Not the fact of what happened but just that era. I'm greatful for this era went through because it taught the world so much
The skill of writing. Imagine during all of that.
I grew up in a Jewish community setup under FDR. It was originally called Jersey Homesteads. It was later on called Roosevelt. As a person in grammar School I was able to interview many Holocaust survivors. This stuff really hits home for me.
I can’t imagine. During World Holocaust Day, I’ve watched two documentaries about different aspects of the holocaust. The evil that men do beggars belief.
Never forgotten Anne & family.....xxxxx❤❤❤❤❤
Otto Frank surviving was a stroke of extreme luck. Him deciding to hide from the KZ guards who were organizing a death march upon news of Allied advances saved him. Peter Van Pels - who was with him in the same camp - unfortunately died in the march, deciding he can survive the war by joining.
Otto's survival is also seen as a cruel joke if one thinks about it. When Jewish persecution in Germany began in earnest, all of the Franks move out, most opting to go to the US where they all survive the war. Otto's decision to choose to flee with his family to the Netherlands instead haunted him until his dying day.
I also can't help but imagine what Anne Frank was thinking during those final months. The Anne Frank we knew from the diary was optimistic and hopeful of humanity, I wonder how much of that is brutally challenged and shattered as she comes face to face with its worst excesses from forced separation between families to physical abuse to helplessness to hopelessness to mass murder...
And the good ole United States turned a blind eye to giving Jews safe passage when they the government knew full and well exactly what was going on
it's fiction, it's not an actual girl's diary, it's a story written by a bloke
@@BotanyDegreePilkerton And you have proof of that? The diary has been proven to be 100% authentic.
@@BotanyDegreePilkerton u are very closeminded or they dropped u on ur head when u was a baby. That diary, is real. As saying goes. Out of the mouths of babes.
Peter actually survived the death march and died at Mauthausen concentration camp 3 days before it was liberated by American soldiers :(
Thank you very much for this documentary. I am doing a project on Anne Frank and what effect her diary has had on history and the way we remember the Holocaust for Welsh Baccalaureate. This video has helped very much and has taught me a lot more than I originally knew. Her story along with so many others such as Eva and Otto makes me very emotional and I admit I did shred a tear watching this. It was very informal and a great watch, thank you.
Ann frank will go down in history forever ❤❤❤ God bless this beautiful little girl and we can only hope she has found happiness wherever she is xxxxx
I read the diary in an English class, in high school, and I watched a movie about the Franks and their roommates while in hiding and I still get very sad about her. The movie seemed to suggest the manager of the store was the one who betrayed them but that might be just a script add-on. Her dad had the right idea, publishing her diary…she is the face of the Holocaust because she had time to write her thoughts and experiences in hiding. She liked her mom, eventually, but her dad didn’t treat her as he should’ve…she said when she marries her husband will treat her with respect.
Fictional story. Don't get it confused with real life. It was written by a man.
This is so heart breaking!!! My grandparents lived during world war2 many of the people frm that time are still alive. This breaks my heart.
The first time I was introduced to the book, The diary of Anne Frank, it was 7th grade history class assignment. Immediately, I was engrossed. As a 12 yr old it was a time of first crushes self-discovery, self-discipline, etc. Many of the same things Anne was going through. And yet, I didn’t acknowledge the fact that she would die a short time later. It was one teenager to another.
My heart shattered when I found out just why Anne Frank's Diary was so famous... I thought it was simply because she was relatable during that time, and I thought she and her family survived
Never forget.
2023.
I hope we have learned.
I like to think that at least one of Anne Frank’s wishes came trueI. She wrote that she wanted to on living even after her death.
As George Elliot once said “Our dead are never dead to us, until we have forgotten them.” We will never forget you, sweet girl. May your memory live forever, and may we remain vigilant so this never happens again.
It's heartbreaking that liitl ones had to go through.
And I appreciate your comment

Liberation was no guarantee of survival when it comes to Bergen-Belsen. Almost half the survivors died in the weeks following liberation.
Such a tragedy that. 😔
I hope one day I can visit the secret annex. Anne’s story has always fascinated me and I can relate to her in someways. It’s sad that her father was the only one to survive but it’s like we have a piece of Anne in the form of her diary
I wish we could read Margot’s diary
She didn’t write one, did she? Some (most, I’d say) people are not diary keepers. I think it was Anne’s performative personality and naivety of youth that led to the diary being created as it was, it was given to her as a way of allowing self expression. Margot was 16 and probably found no use for such an outlet. I know I wouldn’t have.

My heart breaks to hear how our Jewish brothers and sisters suffered 😢💔 yet they remained dignified and compassionate throughout their persecution. Looking at the Jewish community globally now, they can be proud of how successful they've become in just over 75 years despite losing so much ❤

Thank you for this thorough and respectful documentary. The whole war was nothing but evil. And especially with current events the way that they are, it is very important that we don’t let people forget. 😢 Because it must not be allowed to happen again. New subscriber. I read her book, and saw a few movies about her. So sad, for her, and everyone who suffered and died during the Holocaust. How terrible human beings could be. Heartbreaking.
I finished reading her diary about a week ago. Only took me two weeks to get through because of how talented a writer she was, she had me so immersed in her life and inner world in hiding I was looking forward to each entry with anticipation. I felt I shared in all her passions, dreams, misfortunes and self questionings as she recounted her days in hiding and I literally praised out loud when she experienced her first kiss with Peter. I remember the feeling of deep sadness when I turned the page to where it stated "This is where Anne's diary ends" and then reading about the fates of those hiding in the secret annex. I needed to know more and so researched and learned more about Anne and her families life while imprisoned in camp. This book impacted me in a way that no other has before. Never have I cried so often after reading a story. To be so immersed in this girl's life to where you know her innermost thoughts about love, hope and longing and then to have it all torn away at the turn of a page. I still find myself tearing up a week later. To me Anne symbolizes the image of innocence, goodness and purity that we all come into this world knowing. Over time the world's harshness can taint that. Hardships and injustice can turn the most sweetest souls bitter. I felt a return to that purity while reading her diary and I'm grateful for that. Anne's spirit I feel will forever live on by any of those touched by her story. Rest in Paradise sweet girl.

beautiful documentary...the beginning of the end of ww2,though,was the battle of stalingrad.and the FBI retiree guessed with almost certainty that they were betrayed by a jewish council man, that's why Otto didn't want to proceed with the investigation
that FBI retiree did a lot of guessing and almost no historical research. The resulting book was hyped in a big way, especially in NL, but the publisher withdrew it because it is is so unreliable. The remark about Otto Frank is nonsensical, slanderous and antisemitism adjacent
This is called a tale of two sisters and its about Anne and Eva schloss when Anne literally had a full sister
Eva was Anne’s stepsister, and although Anne never knew of that development, they had been friends until the age of 13 when they both went into hiding. Crucially Eva survived to talk about Anne and Otto and the holocaust, and Margot (Anne’s ‘full sister’) did not, leaving none of her own words at all. Eva was a great addition to this documentary.
The film just needed a snappy title, that’s the way things go.
Those that went to Spain were like “idk…. I don’t think we’re far enough, do you? We should probably keep going”. Couples must’ve been like yea, let’s hold off on breeding for a bit.
