  • How to Change Electric Guitar Strings is a beginner video lesson by Matthias Young where you will learn how to string an electric guitar. In the video, we will use a string-through-body model Jackson guitar with a reverse headstock. On other guitars, you may just need to thread the string through the tailpiece. This is by far the best method of changing strings that I've ever tried. I've been changing the strings on my guitars for so many years with lack-luster results. This has made the process so easy and fast! Thank you so much!

    You don't need to keep any tension on the neck. You can cut all of the strings off at the same time while the guitar is still in tune and then clean your guitar and neck, then start changing strings. Think about it......if you use your whammy bar and push it all the way down, like everybody does, that takes 100% of the tension off of the neck. They play that way over and over and over again. If string tension harmed anything, there would not be a whammy in the whole world. The strong neck with a steel truss rod is PLENTY strong enough to handle over abusive whammy techniques, it will handle changing strings with no tension. This guy is a dolt.

    • @ironmaiden5658
      @ironmaiden5658 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I actually had a talk with a guitar tech about this just the other day.. You are 100% correct.. He came up with a point that, how do you clean the fretboard on a 12 string if you're only removing one string at a time? And, If you remove the 6th string, the remaining stronger strings are going to "twist" the neck.. So deceives the entire theory purpose.. The best way is to detune all the strings and then cut them in the middle with some cutters. That way the straight ends will feed through the bridge easier when pulling them out of the guitar. ... Discard the strings and clean the fretboard.. Install new strings one at a time and give slight tension to each.... Don't tune them one at a time. Wait until you have "loaded" all strings before tuning..TH-cam is full of misinformation. You are right. This guy is a dolt..

      you put too little slack when you were winding your strings. make sure to put enough (but not too much) slack when restringing so that you have enough space for winding and tuning up. Usually a good rule of thumb is to measure the length of one tuning head to another and pull that back outward to get enough slack. dumb bitch.

I've tuned successfully to E Standard, but when I try to tune down to Eb Standard, the strings somehow go sharp. For instance, my A string that I've tuned to Ab will then register somewhere close to A. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

    • @jakcSucks
      @jakcSucks 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      you need to stretch your strings, just be careful and patient. if that still doesn't work, lube up contact points like the saddles or nut slots. (also make sure you're locking your strings at the tuning machine)

    Why do you need to maintain "Proper neck tension" while changing strings??

    • @yannitsetsekos3555
      @yannitsetsekos3555 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Atihcin because of the tension rod that's in the neck of your guitar, the strings counteract it but if you take them all off you can cause permanent damage to the neck

    • @SArthur221
      @SArthur221 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      no, i dont think you can. just turn the truss rod if the neck is too straight

    • @yannitsetsekos3555
      @yannitsetsekos3555 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Atihcin if you're actually a guitar technician I guess you can do that but it's best not to mess with it and easier to just change one at a time

    • @SArthur221
      @SArthur221 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      you dont need to be a technician to be able to turn a truss rod. cmon. even a kid could do that.

    • @SArthur221
      @SArthur221 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      in fact, you might have to fiddle around with the truss rod without taking all strings off at once. for example if the guitar shrinks.
