"Small Window" for those who may have missed it. Busting chops, Doc. Excellent video. Only thing that I would find helpful is to mention not only the brand of Herbicide you use. But what the active ingredient is present for what weed it targets: i.e. Quinclorac for crabgrass and other grassy weeds; Sulfentrazone for your Sedges, 2,4-D for braodleafs, etc. Because sometimes we don't have access to the exact name brand you are using, but would like to substitute with what we can get our hands on. Or make our own concoction.
6:17... used that blue weed killer beginning of spring on my Bermuda and it did wonders!!!! Plus, all that needs to be done is attach to hose and water in. Proofs in the pudding. 👍🏼
I live in the upstate and I have mostly crabgrass. For dallisgrass, use MSMA. I have not tried it, but it is a professional grade herbicide like Drive. I'm thinking of trying it because it also works on crabgrass, nutsedge, and chickweed, all of which I get.
MSMA smokes dallisgrass, and goose grass, virginia buttonweed is allot worse weed and almost impossible to kill. Not hard to control with change up herbicide.
@@brianm7402 Drive is not MSMA - it's quinclorac. MSMA will control dallisgrass but is not labeled for residential turf. The only products labeled for residential turf would be Tribute Total or a combination of Revolver+Celsius.
Not the easiest but still very rewarding... I prefer the old school way of a screwdriver and some elbow grease, couple times a month I get after it by hand, pulling out the dallis grass that I can see, so rewarding to see it dried an wilted the next day! 💪👍
Last three years I was too busy to deal with lawn spraying negatives or positives because my dad was suffering from dementia. Prior years I’d pre treat, treat. Fertilize and it’d look good for the summer but have to repeat every year. But taking three years of barely having time to even mow and this summer there is only two small areas with crabgrass. Both near concrete. Strange that the less I do the better it is lol.
I'm in Georgia 30066, and I currently have a lot of brown, dead crabgrass. Should I dig it out? I plan to follow your Bermuda calendar and put pre-emergent down when the time is right. Thanks!
FYI Doc I remembered you saying you didn’t know what that was with your crabgrass next to the miracle strip. It looks to be spurge. I have some I have to fight by pulling in my flower beds.
Mistook my clumping fescue for Crabgrass using quinclorac for crabgrass finding out it will also yellow by clumping fescue hopefully with a couple of applications it will get rid of it instead of me using Roundup
I sprayed glyphosate on my crabgrass. Is that advisable? I assume it’ll kill regular grass around it and I’ll have dead patches after...but I can seed it after I think.
What is the purpose of killing the crabgrass this time of year? It will die on its own when it gets cold. Why not skip the herbicide and keep it mowed to reduce the weed seeds?
Because this time of the year it grows and spreads like crazy choking out the grass. Hit it NOW... and your grass can win the battle. No treatment... the grass loses.
Good video Doc. I think in the Midwest area, pre emergence crabgrass control is around March 1'st. It's kind of funny in a way, how in some areas home owners love Bermuda grass and in other areas they hate it and spray something to kill it. Doc, how do you keep Bermuda out of your flower beds ?
Hey doc, I have a question my brother just got his new house and his front and back yard is dead and full of weeds. We are in LA and we still have this whole month and most of September with heat waves. What should we do with his grass?
When you treat a lawn for weeds but it's cut by the homeowner's lawn cutting service, what keeps them from tracking in new weed rhizomes and weed seeds to re-infest the grass you just treated?
Doc - how would you recommend, in terms of a product lineup of cost-effective to performance, for a 1 Acre lawn? Most of the products (i.e. N-Ext, Simple Lawn Solutions, etc) are rated for 5K sq ft but at $40+ a gallon or $50+ per bag that would get expensive fast. My front yard is where I will be spending my money but I don't want to risk an awkward transition from front lawn to side/rear lawn going from great and no/low weed to good with weeds.
Evening Doc, I just put down some sod patches and seed about 2weeks ago, is it okay to do a crab grass treatment or should I wait for the sod and seed to get more established? Also wanted to thank you, my grass has been transformed with in 10 days by just following your videos! Keep up the good work!,
Doc, I have some problems with crabgrass but am infested with what I think is goose grass; so badly that it's smothered the bermuda out. Should I just wait for the winter die-off and pull it or treat now. I'm in the Austin, TX area and it's still 100+ during the afternoon.
Goose grass treatments are harsh and expensive. Personally... I would let it die off and REALLY work the pre-emergent strong next year. Granular and liquid both.
Doc you truly are a go to for lawn care. You've already given me advice in attacking crabgrass. However quick question; should I go straight liquid or a combo of liquid and granulated? Keeping in mind my lawn is currently overwhelmed with crabgrass.
Doc, you always do a close up of your lawn and it’s always very dense. I have common Bermuda. How thick can a common get compared to a hybrid? No matter how precise I get with applications for my lawn, I can never get it really thick.
Doc please help!!! I've been planning to overseed my tall fescue lawn. However it is currently overwhelmed with crabgrass. Should I just continue my plan to overseed and put down weed killer/ pre emergent late November? Or should I attack the crabgrass now? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated...thank you for all your amazing videos.
Hey Doc, I’m seeing this video late. Do you think I missed the window to spray for crabgrass. My yard is infested with it and I thought I couldn’t spray for it this time of year. Would I have enough time for the Bermuda to recover before going dormant?
Depends on your area, but yes. Use a product like the drive and keep it fairly light. The key is going to be strong dual treatments in the early spring of PE
Hi Doc, If I blanket spray the Drive week killer like you did here will it take care of all the other pesky weeds I'm starting to see such as purslane, nutsedge etc? I"m curious as to why my pre-emergence didn't seem to take care of preventing this but maybe its just that its efficacy has worn off from the early spring app . Appreciate your videos and all the great content! I am using up products I already have so that next year I can get going with PGF complete and super juice :) Thanks, Michelle
Hey Doc: Is there any place we can submit questions? I live in GA too (30265) and have a 1 year old bermuda lawn. Lots of weeds from careless neighbors. How To with Doc yes definitely on a budget so thank you for that information! I’m watching like a hawk for it to be back in stock. I want to be the envy of my slacker neighbors!
Huh... this kind of advice always takes a bit of translating and guessing around here in the DC metro area. Most of the time when you talk about how hot it is down there it's about the same or worse here during the summer (our forecast for the next few days is high 90's with heat indexes in the 105 range, we might as well live in a swamp, actually DC was built on a swamp, I tried to get out and get some stuff done early AM before my day started yesterday and the humidity was 95%, it was miserable even if it wasn't HOT yet), OTOH, I think that either our season is just enough shorter or our winter is just enough harder that stuff like Bermuda won't grow right- we treat it as a weed, the neighbor planted some and it won't fill in his lawn, but it's spreading into our lawns in patches and seems impossible to control. I'm pretty sure we have more than 2 more weeks left where it will get into the high 80's/90's regularly, but we also have rain in the forecast almost every day. We've had a weird summer anyway. Typically the spring rain hits and you have to fight to stay ahead of the grass, then June hits and it all goes dormant unless you have something like Zoysia well into September (I'd guess that over 98% of lawns here are fescue blends, bermuda and similar won't grow thick, zoyzia will but it goes dormant for probably 5-6 months in the winter, lots of people try Kentucky Bluegrass but that doesn't survive around here without a lot of intervention like daily watering). This year it rained hard through spring and even most of July and things didn't go dormant till about 2 weeks ago. I'm not sure what I'm doing yet going into fall. FWIW, I used some of that Baer product in the spring and it did a better job with crabgrass and weeds than anything else I've tied, even though I was a bit late. Until my lawn slowed down this year it looked really good, now the smaller patches of bad stuff actually look worse from the street than they do when they are normally larger.
Revolver+Celsius is labeled for dallisgrass in residential turf. Tribute Total as well. MSMA will control dallisgrass but it is not labeled for residential turf. Other than that, glyphosate is your only other option.
