My best friend is Scottish and I served in the military and I have a Scottish link with the Unit I served in. I will be wearing a Kilt to his wedding representing the town my unit was affiliated with and the town I marched through on remembrance Sunday all those years ago.
A kilt is fantastic for a variety of functions. Formal dress and casual. I wear mine mostly casual for daily activities including when at work, a smart tucked in polo shirt works well. Then you have the proper dress like this gentleman. Aye I’m very proud of my kilt & colours. And if your into hiking, the great plaid is superb AND a true piece of Scottish history & identity. Many guys write: "I would wear a kilt every day." But I live in Scotland and I rarely see men in kilts. And it's very sad. Men in kilts look great! It's very masculine, sexy and charming!!! There is nothing more beautiful than a man in a kilt!!!
My dad wore a kilt all the time, he was in a pipe band and everyone wore kilts at weddings and sporting events and even on burns night and saint Andrews day, at ceilidh. It is not like kilts are never worn in Scotland. To be fair I am from the countryside and live in traditional country community, it is traditionally a country outfit rather than a city outfit, I feel like you see country people embrace the kilt more and all our country traditions like ceilidh.

Hi my partner turns 50 in April and she’s trying to organise a race day with meal. As I’ve never been to the races I’m unsure as to what to wear and everyone before you all say why is she organising her 50th well that’s because all the staff at our work place are going where as I’m planning on taking her to Paris for 4 nights . Idk where you live but i live in england and it isnt considered an unacceptable thing. Even aside from kilts, i have friends who wear skirts made for women.

At other occasions besides religious, it's weird to wear it unless at few places. The only thing I remember is Lombok, where sarung is an everyday wear and worn outside religious occasions

However depending on the occasion kilts may be seen as a very formal thing or more casual, and up until recently women didnt really wear them, as they were seen as highly masculine clothing.
