One of the most beautiful songs on the planet. It can give you a warm and fuzzy feeling or a melancholic mood. Fascinating. The guitars are great. Sorry, the cover from The Gathering is no comparison. It sounds like US Christian band has song it.
I heard this song for the first time on Tik Tok, then after listening to it again, my whole world collapsed, it turns the state of your soul upside down so much, it’s pure rock punk house
Shame I hadn't stayed in Toronto longer. I saw The Verve at Lee's just a few months earlier. Slowdive must have been incredible in this right size venue.
@Mutt Evan yes, there's a plenty information about their relationship, just search for it---pls hear Slowdive songs called "dagger" , you might know what it meants to be Rachel on Neil worlds
This song is almost to amazing for my ears. I am in aw. Have you noticed that some bands don't sound good live? I think they sound awesome.. They don't sound like they do on their albums but it is different in a very good way. More spaced out.. Like Machine gun at the same show. Sounds brilliant. I wish they were still a band.
Yeah, the album this is off of (souvlaki) is rivaled in greatness only by Loveless by MBV. Additionally, the track sequencing is right on, with a 7 minute or so song (Souvlaki Space Station) coming right before this track. And they were damn good live too, too bad the night i saw them Neil had a cold
It's not fair to have been born much later and not have seen them live. how was i suppose to know about this at 9? i reckon it would've been difficult to slip past the bouncer
I don't know what who/whom?? used, but I never found any better, clearer, louder, spacier(from stage anyway) amp than the older fender twin reverbs. Those bastards...pay whatever extortion people put you thru, cuz I never cried harder than the day after I lost mine. And I'm sadcore, pretty much.
@JuiCeBoX19 i used to feel the same way, but i first listened to the song Lose yourself in me and then i found another really great song which sucked me in which is called When you sleep :)
does anyone know how they get those volume boosts from their Yamaha FX500's? I have oa FX500 unit but i'm having trouble replicating the volume jumps that propel the choruses/verses into the stratosphere
Well CEIVE4EVER, I think you'll find that if you read their interviews from the early '90s, Slowdive always admitted to being influenced by My Bloody Valentine. Neil Halstead also said he hadn't even heard the Cocteau Twins until journalists started to compare Slowdive to them.
@JuiCeBoX19 Listen to Sometimes... then everything grows on you. I havent been able to go a week without listening to Loveless in its entirety for about a year :D
Mahfuckin stick a super delay twin reverb way upps..like heavy 7-8(?) All over yr reasonably heavy overdrive/big muff(literally, I'm afraid) then add smack & ecstasy, and go conquer the world. ..maybe throw in volume pedal.
Shits. I meant start w. a decent digital delay. The dark blue boss. 50$ tops, here..dunno about da UK £ pounds, you knobs have. FCK ManUntd...Cit-tay all day, right?
I wish I'd been at the age to see this band back then.
They are on the road!
You are, already.
I saw them a couple years back at Hyde Park with The Cure, Ride, Editors and others. Was great.
yea me too- i was still negative nine.
I wasn't even born yet :(
i was at this show. so good. the sound live was crazy good.
Lucky you. The feeling standing there was probaly so nice. Such a vibe
Omg you are so fucking lucky.
Holy shit!
That intro... Reminds me of a blissful summer night
SAME THOUGHT
When i die... i wish my soul could travel back to the past to another an another body so i can witness every slowdive concer and album from the start

Interesting to see someone who probably knew the band on their young days. I just know them from youtube, but i still love their sound anyways! ❤
Aged like fine wine

I'm so happy I got to see them in the same city as this a full 29 years later! Long live good music!
Saw them in Toronto, but last year. Legendary,
Shame I hadn't stayed in Toronto longer.

Very old comment wow
OMG so good T.T

i envy the guys went to this live show
the real shoegazers.
No words needed... Just wow!!!
Moving. Brilliant. One of the best UK bands ever!!!!!!!!!!
3 dislikes? How can anyone dislike something as heavenly as this?
is this the only live version of "when the sun hits" on the internet? this is really good
i wish i was able to see them live :(
great to see the greatest shoegaze song of all time in my recommendations
it sounds like a synth but i know for a fact that the sound comes out of a combination of guitar pedals
😮😮😮 I’ve been trying to figure out what that sound is for years!!!!
Esta canción me gustará siempre.
I love this song, Thank you so much for posting this. Brings back memories.
I wish i can have a time machine so i can go to their show /:
Personally, I'm more into Slowdive, can't really find my way into the MBV stuff...
How about now?
Is this and yes?
I mean it makes sense, slowdive and MBV are on different ends of the shoegaze spectrum imo. Slowdive verging on dream pop
MBV is for sure really heavy stuff while Slowdive is just dreamy, you can get it easily
im more into mbv but i love this song
I agree but I don't expect Slowdive to be playing anytime soon.
Everybody from the band has different projects now.
But keep wishing!
kicksex Happened!!
lol
well uh-
Dreams come true 🎉
How do they get that sound?! Amazing
lots of delay and reverb and chorus
i want this engraved in my soul
best england's group from the nineties...miss u
*earlies
I was all of 9
Hermoso
Beautiful
yeah I’m gonna cry I was -12 years old
i would like to see one time of my life see them live v.v
If this song doesn’t transport you, absolutely nothing will. Let yourself slow dive … 🏊

Razbijaju!
they did it again.
WTB a time machine.
♥️♥️♥️
does anyone know how they get those volume boosts from their Yamaha FX500's? I have oa FX500 unit but i'm having trouble replicating the volume jumps that propel the choruses/verses into the stratosphere
Shoegazer 93 the key is to keep the volume on your guitar down to about 7-8 it makes every single pedal have a volume jump
last show EVER? :)
I would donate my left kidney to have been there
It matters where you are.
I was born in 2006…
that intro....
Trance music.
omfg.
this ...hits...me....I know this track very well so who cares about the sound...god damned...
It matters where you are
this sound fucking maniac...

this is weirdly emotional to watch
Wow, just listened to The Gatherings version.
Oh dear is about all I can say.
Music fine... then the vocals kick in...
amazing. i think neil is 18 years old here?
No, they haven´t a MBV influence, their biggest influence were cocteaeu twins, brian eno and syd barret, but never My Bloody Valentine.
SHOEGAZE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yes... but they have a big infleunce of MBV...
240 pixels.... sexy
i know this song , played by gathering but this version is cool to.
They are still great now but they don't sound quite so ethereal as this these days. Bring back the rack effects please!
I agree! They're much drier esp live.
is this video available? the cound is surprisingly good.. i'd love to get the mp3's or the video itself
Get outta my head !!!! :)
MBV RULES!
@JuiCeBoX19 Listen to Sometimes... then everything grows on you. I havent been able to go a week without listening to Loveless in its entirety for about a year :D
does anyone know neil halstead's pedalboard setup? im bored with the guitargeek accuracy
