Slowdive: Catch the Breeze Live 1991 (audio remaster)

- Minutiae: we repurposed and remastered a classic TV appearance by Slowdive to coincide with the 25-year anniversary of the release of "Just For A Day', their debut LP. Extracted video and audio from existing sources, specifically to lend more crispness and presence to the audio track. Due to the limitations of television audio in the early 90s, and the historical nature of this document, seemed the right thing to do. Following the audio remaster, we shifted the audio channel .65 seconds forward, so that it once again matches the video (all existing sources are out of sync). Two hours later, we have a document celebrating Slowdive that we're pretty proud of.

Dang, I wish I was making out to Slowdive like those two
Joanna F. Reyes Or a chick
or a guitar pedal
i would just stare at Rachel, she was so beautiful
Where are they now?
@GoodKid60 please someone do that :)
Rachel is actually my crush even she's a married woman and almost 2x older than me.
you said what i wanted to say
i've been crushing on her since i was 14, ten years later and it still didn't go away, god help me
Agreed, she was quite fetching back then.
She’d hate you - creep
@@Jason-Scott ???
Rachel was so beautiful!!! And she still is.
You havent see her lately. She hit the wall at 100 mph.
Lol, for a moment I took it serious what he said and even googled to find out the truth. The best way to treat this kind of reply is to ignore it. :)
The wall is out there and youre going to hit it wimp. The wall doesnt care about your beliefs or my "rudeness" or anything else. Reality always wins in the end.
+ilovelctr She's lost her voice, though. I saw their Boston show in November, 2017 and she couldn't it make it through this song and they had to scratch "Machine Gun" and "She Calls" from the set list. Rachel has some pretty serious health issues (she's deaf in one ear and has vertigo) and she really doesn't seem up to performing this stuff any longer.
I think she is still very pretty!
The make out couple are living the time of their lives.
That's I think the bass player from Chapterhouse, who played the same night.
Rachel once told some interesting stories about this performance on her personal facebook. the guy kissing the girl in the video is the bass player from Chapterhouse, and he was paid to kiss her (don't remember how much) to create "ambient".
@@wonder_boy2237 It works.
@@wonder_boy2237 bruh, fake sounds so bad ahahah, i thought they were a real couple.
@@lxiii8914 but it seems that works xD
This is like a picture in time, you can feel the energy of the whole thing, slowdive playing at their best and the people feeling the music in their bodies and consciousness, living forever young.
Music truly is timeless.
Lo mismo opino
Its from 1991 and they're now in their 50s.
@@Stringer13ell So glad I was young in the 80s and 90s !!!
@@666sdkfz I wish I was a bit older in the 80s and 90s. There's things that are better now, but all in all, for all the internet, readily available music and computer games with photo realistic graphics, id swap it all to live in a country that isn't full of colonising interlopers.
@@Stringer13ell Well put my friend !
If this is heaven then I'll never sin again
No peques mas. Maldito 😂😂😂
I can only imagine the pain Neil had to endure when Rachel and him broke up.
I wish i were a teenager in 90s. Slowdive, nirvana, radiohead,REM, tool. So many great bands were young and popular, magic time, people actually listened to good music
as much as i agree, it would have been cool to be a teenager when all this great music was being released, i feel like ur being ungrateful, you have all the best known music accessible for free just by pressing a few buttons.
It was the best time to be a teen. I went to so many shows back then. All of them had so much power. I was 14 in ‘91.
@@visualdronenah everything is oversaturated and contrived now. Everything is available at the push of a button devaluing most of its impact.
Wasn't all that bad to have been born in 1970, so all these bands were fresh in my late teens and early 20s. Went from the Cure, stages of goth, Mudhoney and some indie, into grunge and then discover the Wildhearts by 1996.
theres still great music man you just gotta look for it
She was a stunner. I loved this tiny little window of music that was shoegaze. It deserved a better fate..
I'm a huge fan of occult rock, en gendra very popular in the 70's , but in the late yearsn many band started to bring it back. Shoegaze can come back !
Also shoegaze had a definite influence on black metal recently, you should check out thz french band alcest
madmanu r I will!
Shoegaze is bigger in 2020 than it ever was in the 90s
@@chrisgreene7075 I’d love you to show me 5 bands that come anywhere near the 5 big Shogaze stalwarts. They are not out there. I never stop looking. I have heard people say that when the music sounds nothing like this..
this woman is the ESSENCE of what we think as beauty of youth.
her face is like a fairy.IMPECCABLE and fiteed exactly the music.
she was gorgeous
It is.
now she´s fat,end of the story
anyone who thinks Rachel has aged badly is an utter loser. Holy shit...go back to primary school. Actually, nevermind, you're probably still there.
I don't agree, face or body has nothing to do with music. She can be "ugly" but her music is awesome. So yeah, you are shallow.
@@stemen1162 Rachel Goswell aged well, but doesn't matter.
She should be respected as one of the godmothers of shoegaze, alongside Butcher & Berenyi
This is like the most shoegaze thing I have ever seeen!!
RJ826 you ever listen to Lush?
Lush: De-Luxe and Spooky
@@PHLCoffeeSnob pre shoesgaze... But yeah, lovely music.
I mean my bloody valentine and Ride have these moments.

baduy mo. her voice is not great and im a fan of slowdive
@@MMZS528 aha i wonder who asked 😳
omg i read this wrong and thought you said she died 😭
I was at their concert in Buffalo NY last November, standing near the front. I remember being mesmerized during the concert, when Rachel glanced over in our direction (we were pretty close to her) and she looked directly at me and smiled for a few seconds before looking away again. It sent shivers through me, and looking back at this video makes it seem more special.
She wanted to stoic emperor aside her.
Good story!
@@juanpabloarena2724 thanks!

I'm the farthest from being a religious person but they're like angels up there singing and playing their heavenly songs
rachel goswell is timelessly lovely
This looks like a dream it does not look real like howwwww
wow she is so beautiful
Her beauty is out of this world.
2:54 Absolutly amazing.
This was at the Marquee in Soho. September 3rd, 1991. They topped the bill that night. Moose and Chapterhouse opened for them. I am so damned happy to have stumbled across this vid - as it brings back the memory of being there and it's a gig that I've always treasured .
Chapterhouse were the dogs bollocks. "Pearl"was a stone cold classic and their cover of "Rain". Exceptional.
ethereal voice..
The music when I was in college was the best ever. Said everyone who’s ever been in college. But if you were at Uni from ‘88 to ‘91 in England, like me, that may well have been true. To see Slowdive, Ride, Blur, Wonderstuff, Charlatans, Stone Roses, Catherine Wheel, and then later, in my first job I. Sheffield, Pulp, Long Pigs, Suede, Auteurs....Fantastic times.
Feels like all the days are gone
Just catch the breeze
You know it had to fall
Rain, washes, ways down
And I, I want the world to pass
And I, I watch the wind to fly
You can believe in everything
You can believe it all
Hey, are you feeling something new
Just watch the rain, it helps in all you do
The breeze, it blows, it blows everything
And I, I want the world to pass
And I, I want the sun to shine
You can believe in everything
You can believe it all
Just heard this live yesterday, started crying of joy and amazement of how beautiful can music be. Thank you Slowdive
Bless the person that kept this footage and placed it on youtube. A gem!! ❤
Slowdive change my life, I was thinking, I was born in 1988, south of Brazil, and now with 32 years old, at this f .. quarentine crying like a baby and dreaming with Better days .
This girl is so beautiful when she was young
She s still beautiful today❤
What is the feeling that emotes crying while listening to their music? I mean, really what is it? There's not too many bands out there that make me just cry for no reason at all and I'm a grown ass man! I'm gonna guess it generates an immediate and dualistic feeling of deep gratitude for being alive at the same time feeling sad and nostalgic for the past as well as hopeful for the future.
Itry not to think about it, ive never blubbed to another bands music, Slowdive just seem to hit a nerve and out come the tears, damn these onions
There's a video on youtube of Slowdive playing live after they got back together, and the camera keeps cutting to a girl with blue hair who is crying, and there are a lot of comments saying "blue-hair girl = me".
Thomas Rainbow That is very well-said. I was just pondering over all these emotions myself, trying to make sense of what I was feeling. I think your description is spot on.
@@ThreadBomb do u know what video Is? Or what Is the name?

Wish I was a a teenager during these times
why they and their generation weren´t ?
I got to see them when they were this young, was right in the front, remember thinking how beautiful Rachel was and still is
Damn Rachel was only 20 in this video.
I wasnt even born when this happened, but god, I wish I was there, and also I wish I could see slowdive live once in my life, If they keep performing by the time Im able to travel
With a new album coming out soon hopefully they tour close to you!
imagine if nobody recorded this
1:21 I bet that person still remembers that smile 😍
Damn, don’t think Rachel ever looked more beautiful than here...WOW 😍
And we are again, 2021, they’re putting another album together. Their re emergence in 2014 was awesome. Golden Hair at Pitchfork and Best Kept Secret are out of this world.
i had the chance to see slowdive a couple years ago. definitely a dreamlike/ethereal experience. so happy they played this song too
Saw the show in Carrboro, NC last night (5/10/17). Their performance of this was the best and most overpowering I've heard. Looked over and a couple of people were actually crying.
i was there too, great show
This song changed my life for the better😃
Wow. So ahead of their time. So rad.
It´s so beautiful that it hurts a bit
Rachel is so beautiful
I have had the amazing experience of seeing Slowdive many times and this video brings back great memories of that first show!
my od, i discovered this band 5 weeks ago and I'm in love with it. Every one in this band is beautiful!
Perfect FX on vocal
Wow!!! Simply awesome!
Hell yes!! One of my favorite bands ever. Amazing live and on albums.
I wanna go back to the 90s. 😭
Life was so much fun back then.
i have watched this so many times over the years. i wish i could have been there when they were in their prime. still a great band but damn. i feel like i missed out
Slowdive mudou minha vida, só ouço e fico em silêncio absoluto

It’s surreal how a person can even look and sound like that. This is amazing.

The higher pitches and sharper sounds work very well with this song. They should play it like this more often.

Why couldn't slowdive get more airplay in North America in the early 90s

I saw them on tour with RIDE in 91 and the venue was a tiny dive bar that holds less than a 100. Religious experience.
