Man hell nah, this dude said "I'm just gonna leave all my best friends in the entire world to die alone in a cave while I go 'get the cavalry'". That's arguably a worse friend than the one who dragged them to an unknown cave in the first place. 😂

Nothing is funnier to me than reactors confidently saying what "the smart thing" to do is or complaining about a character's response to horror/emergency in an unthinkable situation that the reactor has never experienced. It's like, bro, it's easy to armchair quarterback it from the safety of your living room but you don't what your actual response to a life and death situation is going to be until you're in one.

In the beginning, she was running away from the darkness because that was death trying to take her. She ran into the light which saved her as it showed she wanted to live. That’s why she was able to run into her friend’s arms.

Fun Facts: In the special features for the movie they described the creatures as the cavemen who never left the caves. Also the director purposely hid what the creatures looked like from the cast, so in the scene when they all encounter one for the first time as it jump scares them, that is their genuine fearful reaction IN REAL LIFE.
One of the many reasons this movie is tied with Alien for my all time favorite horror movie.

Not quite sure which version you watched because maybe you just cut it out. In the original British version Sarah wakes up in the cave after the last scare with Juno in the car.
This is another level of evil from the writers..

I've watched a couple of reactions to this movie lately and, yeah, each one seems to be missing that last reveal, so I guess there must be some other "slightly less traumatic" version floating around out there that people are reacting to bc the version you're talking about is the only one I'd ever seen before.

The claustrophobia in this movie is already terrifying by itself. Even without the monsters, this movie never fails to disturb me with all the uncomfortably realistic shots of them exploring underground. Watching this movie always stresses me out, and I feel like I can’t breath. I can’t imagine how horrifying it must be to be trapped in a dark, tight cave. It’s one of the best horror films of all time! Thank you so much for watching!

I used to have all kinds of "getting chased by a monster" type nightmares when I was a kid. One day, one of the dreams turned into a lucid dream partway through and, realizing I was dreaming, I decided to turn around and go after the monster. When I turned around, it was gone. I spent the rest of the dream looking for it (hunting it, really) and couldn't find the monster or anyone else in the dream world. Once I realized I was dreaming, it basically became an empty set. After that, I never had another monster dream. It was like my brain went, "Well, that doesn't work anymore" and gave up on the "monster dream" scenario.
Now, instead, whenever I have a nightmare, it's an emotional nightmare where I'm arguing with someone I care about and, no matter what I say, they're just saying horrible things to me.
Tbh, I'd rather have the monster nightmares back.

Here in Canada, it was a coin toss on what version you might get buying the dvd. The ones made and sold for Canada had the UK/international cut. But a lot of bigger distributors like Walmart often just sold US copies repackaged for Canada(you can tell by the package/label. If the actual box has both English and French, it was made for Canada. If it has an all English package with a second cover/label added on to abide by bilingual language requirement laws, it’s likely an American made copy repackaged for sale in Canada).
Used to really bug me before digital distribution at theatres, because even though we’re not nearly as prudish as American censors rating movies here in Canada, we would often end up with the American cut of films because it was easier to lump us in with the larger American market for distribution. Still way better than growing up being a lover of cinema in the US though(15 year old me got to see Terminator 2 in theatres because it was rated 14AA, while in the US it was rated R. Would have hated to miss out on a seminal moment of watching movies because the MPAA thought I was too young to watch).

      @johnplaysgames3120 32 นาทีที่ผ่านมา +1

I hit it from the other direction. I randomly started lucid dreaming as a kid and that's what allowed me to turn around and face the nightmare "monsters." Hilariously (and unironically) enough, the lucid dream that ended up being my last "monster" nightmare ever started out non-lucid with me being chased by Freddy Krueger (it was that time period). Partway through, I realized I was dreaming, manifested a weapon in my hand, and turned around to face Freddy... but he was gone. I spent the rest of the dream looking for him but the dream location (which was just the neighborhood I grew up in and a nearby park) was completely unpopulated. After that, I never had another monster dream again. It was like my brain went, "Well, that doesn't work anymore" and stopped making monster dreams.
Unfortunately, those feelings have to come out somehow, so, after a brief hiatus, I started having nightmares again but, from that point on, they were all emotional nightmares where I'm arguing with someone I care about and they're saying all kinds of horrible things about me, won't listen to anything I have to say, etc.
Tbh, I'd rather have the monster dreams back.

@@johnplaysgames3120 that’s exactly what happened. My godfather told me to close my eyes in a dream and say where I wanted to be 3 times and open my eyes in the dream.. it worked. So next time it happens I was able to just ignore the monster and realized it was mine. I would fly and shoot dragonball beams out of my hands and manipulate my surrounds. It would wake me up because I would get excited in my dreams. I embraced the movie of my dream and went with it. Eventually I don’t remember my dreams because they don’t stress me out. I wish I could lucid dream again.

I was sucked into watching this in high school. I don’t watch a lot of horror. This movie scared me a lot. He had seen it so I asked my boyfriend at the time to let me know when it was safe to uncover my eyes and he lied and said yes. I uncovered them and the creature jumped out. I was so mad.i have to say I have to disagree. I feel like I don’t see many films where an Asian female is the antagonist so it was a nice change. The cheating characters are always white in movies.

I think it's difficult to overstate the impact that this flick had on "indie horror" from 2005 onwards.. especially in retrospect.

I prefer the true ending, not this softened ending made specifically to cater to weak American audiences. That's a quote for why this ending exists. Look up the real ending.

It wasn't because of "weak American audiences", it was greed plain and simple. This ending left it open for a sequel which they obviously hoped would make more money.

I wasn't calling Americans weak. I was giving a quote from an interview where they were talking about why there was another ending made. It wasn't about setting up a sequel. They specifically mentioned American audiences didn't like coming out of the film on a downer and complained.

Unfortunatly, you watched the SOFTENED, HARMLESS AMERICAN version of the movie. The original BRITISH CUT has a MUCH DARKER ending, because, what you saw, was NOT THE ENDING of the movie. What a pity, that the distributor didn't trust the American audience to accept the real ending!
    SPOILER ENDING:
The happy end in the american version was only her imagination.
She is still in the cage, lost her mind and is imagining being with her daughter - slowly being surrounded by the crawlers!
