The amount of merch that followed this movie, including happy meal toys and Ghostbusters cereal, was ridiculous. Plus the theme song on the radio every day. I’m not complaining. It was awesome!
Although the original, old school tee shirts that came out after the film were black with the logo, not sky blue. Only a few rare examples of the blue ones were sent out at premieres and things.
I was obsessed with Ghostbusters growing up and it’s always been one of my favorite films. I was very fortunate to have met Harold Ramis back in 2004 when I worked retail in NYC. He was one of the kindest and most humble guys I’ve ever met. RIP Harold!

@jonyoung1768 he was supposed to be venkman - ended up being slimer. Eddie Murphy was supposed to be Winston - ended up being axel Foley (Beverly hills cop)
"Is she levitating?" "She still looks hot!" Yes!😂. I was about 12 years old the first time I seen Sigourney Weaver crawl out of that sleeping pod in "Alien", and I've loved her ever since.
If you want to see Sigourney Weaver as the villain in a movie... check out Working Girl (1988) with Melanie Griffith and Harrison Ford. Well, not a villain but more the antagonist in the movie. It's sort of a 1980's Cinderella story on Wall Street.
@@meteerbil2078 I feel like everyone above the age of 40 knows Reginald, purely from "Family Matters." I remember literally everyone my age watching that show back in the day. Hell, I remember talking about that show with my buddies in MIDDLE SCHOOL! lol

Dan Aykroyd's father wrote a book called History of Ghosts. His mother claimed that she has seen ghosts. In 1981, Dan read an article on Quantum Physics and Parapsychology in American Society for Psychical Research. With his parents' interests plus science of trapping ghosts gave him the idea for Ghostbusters. Dan and longtime buddy, fellow SNL, John Belushi were starred in this movie, but John's death in 1982 changed those plans. Part of the plan was Eddie Murphy too, but Eddie didn't do it. Dan wrote the original script. Original script was darker. Another SNL member, Bill Murray agreed to be in the movie. Bill, Dan, and Ivan met Harold Ramis to talk about this movie. They re-worked the script. Then there a problem with the main title, Ghostbusters. There was children's TV show called The Ghost Busters owned by Universal while movie is owned by Columbia. Executive for Columbia left for Universal sold the title for $500,000 and 1% of the profits for Universal as title sold to Columbia stating Universal made money on Ghostbusters too.
Well, we do know that one of Aykroyd’s favorite genres is _soul_ music. 😉 Along with _The Handbook for the Recently Deceased,_ _A History of Ghosts_ is highly recommended reading for anyone who becomes a ghost. After all, those who don’t learn their history may be doomed to be a repeating phantasm.
Ghostbusters was the very first VCR tape we got when our family got our very first VCR player. This movie was also highly quoted by us at work all the time. One of our co-workers was named Dana and a lot of time when someone called her name, she'd say, "There is no Dana only Zuul." Also, when we got to work and someone asked what's up or what's going on, one of us would pop off while looking at someone else, "Tell em about the twinkie."
The Ghostbuster game is heavily based on both the original idea for GHostbusters and the 3rd movie they were going to make. It was a lot darker thematically.
Fun Trivia: When the scene where Dana opens up her refrigerator and sees the Sumerian temple and hellhound that roars "Zule", at the test screening the visual effect of that hadn't been finished yet and test audiences only saw a title card that said "scene missing". It got such a huge reaction of people laughing that director Ivan Reitman considered just leaving the scene missing 😂😅🤣😂
Another fun fact: The refrigerator is directly in front of the hidden staircase behind the wall that leads up to the rooftop temple. So when she opens the door to the fridge she is actually looking through a portal right at the real staircase to the temple.
Did you know Jason reitman (Ivan's son) is in ghostbusters 2. He's the little man with the attitude at the birthday party that says about what his dad says (lol) of why they went out of business. Then he's also in kindergarten cop. He's the little man kissing the girl during the fire scene. Then you see him mom and his sister in ghostbusters (this movie) (I guess 4 - with phoebe, Trevor, etc,,,) it's the footage that phoebe is watching on her laptop when she's watching her grandfather and you see the mom and 2 kids coming out of the apartment building.
@@OfficialMediaKnights Egon Spengler (Harold Ramis) was to direct Peter Venkman (Bill Murray) a decade later in one of the most iconic films of all time, GROUNDHOG DAY
You HAVE to react to Working Girl with Sigourney and Harrison Ford and Melanie Griffith. Sig got a nomination for best supporting actress in a comedy. it is a BRILLIANTLY done film with an underdog in the lead role. You will LOVE it.
Apparently Egon was the one who has the PKE meter most of the time because the prop itself was very makeshift and finicky and Harold Ramis was the one member of the team who was able to make it work and react convincingly onset.
i saw this in theaters when I was 10 and missed most of the adult humor but still adored this film. I remember doing a Ghostbusters skit in school that year.
When I saw this in theaters with my friends they thought I was laughing at Peter talking to the manager and didn’t understand what was so funny. I told them we had to stay for the next showing and told them to watch Egon and they both cracked up laughing when they saw him.
Fun fact: In the cartoon show the green "blob" became an extremely valuable member of the team. His name was Slimer, and he was a very beloved character, just as often their saviour as the cause of their greatest problems. 😂
One of my favorite childhood movies in the 80’s. I remember when this movie came out and I was at a Mets game at Shea Stadium with my Dad and Bill Murray was there talking to fans. My Dad and I came over to say hello and he was the nicest guy, making jokes and talking about the game.
It was nominated for Best Visual Effects but lost to Indiana Jones The Temple Of Doom. Originally, the Ghostbusters was supposed to take place 200 years into the future where they were dressed up like SWAT officers and used wands to capture the ghosts instead of the proton packs we see in the final cut of the movie. They not only fought ghosts, but fought off space aliens as well, and even traveled through other dimensions and fought off demonic god-like entities. Paul Reubens, David Bowie, and Grace Jones were considered for the role of Gozer, as he was going to appear as Ivo Shandor, the architect who worshipped him, but it was then decided to make the character androgynous. Also, when Shandor walks down the glass stairwell, they melt under his shoes, but would repair themselves. Eddie Murphy was going to play the role of Winston Zeddemore, turned it down as he was too busy working on the action comedy Beverly Hills Cop. Jeff Goldblum, John Lithgow, and Christopher Lloyd were considered for Egon Spengler, but they were too busy working on Sci Fi Action Comedy Buckaroo Banzai: Across The Eighth Dimension. John Candy was going to play Louis Tulley, the neighbor who has a crush on Dana. John Belushi, before his passing in 1982 from a cocaine overdose, was going to play the role of Peter Venkman.
Ernie Hudson was cast as Winston when the character was still the version that was written for Eddie Murphy. He was supposed to be a vastly over-qualified character, former military man etc etc, and had a big role in the movie. By the time it came to film it, the character had been reduced to an average guy with no special skills who just takes the job because there’s a steady pay check in it! Hudson was not best pleased, but he still did a great job and the change in his character helped ground the story in reality.
i am so excited you get to enjoy this iconic classic. nothing like the giant stay puffed marshmello man. This is the movie where i fell in love with not only Bill Murry, Dan Akroyd, but also Sigourny Weaver. RIP Ramis. Thank you so much for the reaction and can't wait for the next. keep on rocking and if you have a ghost don't forget to call the ghostbusters! 👻👻👻
I’m finding myself so entertained whenever Denise goes “Nooooooooo!!!!” Super reaction to this iconic movie! I saw it in the theater when it first came out and although its popularity was obvious, who knew that it would still be this recognizable 40 years later.
What I love about this movie is how it was a comedy, a horror film and an action film all at once. I wish more movies could be this creative and ambitious nowadays.
Still my all time favourite movie. The Dana Barrett abduction scene still gives me goose bumps. Also; can we take a moment to appreciate Sigourney's scream when she slams the refrigerator shut!
I love that you guys have not seen this movie. The joy of watching reactions is the first time viewer of classics. In the 70's and 80's we were at the theatre almost every Saturday. I was an amazing time to be young-ish.
Indeed, it was so much fun to not have to pay such expensive prices to see amazing cinema with very little disappointments in the finished movies. Oh my, how we fallen from such amazing entertainment to what is being produced today.
My brother and I dressed as Ghostbusters for Halloween back in the day. We had the action figures and firehouse with the platform that spun around the fire pole from top to bottom. Ghostbusters has been engrained into us 80’s/90’s kids
I grew up in the 80's and have watched this movie at least 30 times over the years and have never noticed Spangler being terrified coming down the pole in the station. My mom taped this from cable and I watched it all the time growing up. I can't believe I never saw it, I'm in tears laughing right now. The face he's making is hilarious.
12:20 The "good" one word one-liner has become a sort of verbal shorthand among my family for an outcome we all saw coming. It's astounding how much this film informed pop culture. For Gen X at least, it is truly iconic. Thanks for watching it at last, great and good fun watching you see it for the first time!
the adverthat you see on the tv in the movie is the commercial they put during the SuperBowl and that is the only advertising they did for the movie, they received 2000 calls a day on their hotline and it made the anticipation for the movie even more
FYI When Ray Parker, Jr. was asked to write the song for ghostbusters, he was given a rundown on the movie and told them he would get back to them. He wrote the song in 30 minutes.
A classic in the 80's. It went from nowhere in the box office to a hit. There were lunch boxes, tee shirts, toys, computer games... it had a cartoon that actually redesigned the second movie!
The Walter Peck guy from the EPA is out of line but he is not wrong about assessing there operation. A simple blackout in New York will have the same effect as shutting there containment system down. I am curious what might have happen if Peter Venkman was more cooperative to a rep from a government agency at the first meeting? There is reasons why people can't build like nuclear reactors and Companies can't build stuff like that without some government oversight.
You’re right! If we look at it from a neutral perspective having a team like the Ghostbusters would definitely require some regulations haha these guys are nuts! 😂❤️
This is the one thing that dates it because the president and culture at the time was very Right wing, and as a result, VERY against environmentalists, seeing them as 'kooks' and killjoys-so in the film he was a 'bad guy'.
Aykroyd and Ramis had written this a couple years before, when they were still part of Saturday Night Live, and was originally going to star another SNL alumnus, the late John Belushi. The original story line had them time-traveling to hunt spirits throughout history- kinda glad they didn't follow through with that. 😄
"Sigourney Weaver, what a legend !" : I recommend you to watch a short sketch from "You again" (You again cast interview 2'59 long), it's hilarious ! Sigourney knows she's the queen of box-office and let their fellow co-stars know !
Great reaction - you are one of my go-to reactors. I'm so glad I grew up in the 70s & 80s, so much more thought was put in to performances, script & direction in movies back then.

22:31 - "I'm opening the trap now - don't look directly into the trap!" "I looked at the trap, Ray." Best line read ever.
Winston: "Tell him about the Twinkie..."
Venkman:" What about the Twinkie??"
😂Still gets me!
@krisfrederick5001 Still one of my favourites too. 😂👍
Every time I watch this movie I want a Twinkie. And Cheez It. And Chinese food. But not eggs and not marshmallows.
I just put together - I can't remember in the Zombieland scene, did Woody Harrelson's character watch Ghostbusters with them? If so you'd think he'd come out of there crying being taunted about the Twinkie.
At least it wasn't snowballs, Tallahassee would have been pissed 😂😂😂
@@jerodast Tallahassee got to play Ghostbusters with Bill Murray, he was sporting enough to let Tally borrow a toy proton pack while he himself used a vacuum cleaner that looked like a proton pack. He even called out to him, See you on the other side Ray❤️what a Gentleman, a true Gem!
I love the way the universe works. Today is my b-day, the big 40. Just like this film turned 40 this year. It's one of my faves, and you guys drop your reaction on my b-day. This is the gift I needed! Oh yeah, The Terminator came out on this day in '84 as well. I love the 80's!
I can't think of a better way to start my day. Bill Murray, Ari and Denise. The trifecta of smiles.
"I've worked in the private sector. They expect results!" Always gets me.
RIP Harold!
"Listen!!!.....do you smell something?".....such a subtle joke
Just wanna say you guys have a great channel and community, you’ve helped me through some tough times recently. Rewatching some of my favourite movies with you guys is so good for the soul. Thank you so much ❤
i'm old and we didn't have a lot of money when i was younger, so my grandparents who had HBO would tape movies for me on VHS. this was one of them and i know i watched it at least 50 times before i became a teenager. it is literally part of my childhood.
Love how millions of people connect through films because these stories mean so much to them. They are a literal and important part of their lives.
Glad to see you enjoyed this film so much!
I had it on Betamax!
When they meet Gozer, Venkman's "Go get her Ray!" is a call back to their first encounter with the library ghost with Ray's "Get her!" plan. 😂
Please Please 🙏🏻 watch the 2nd film but 2021’s Ghostbusters Afterlife is also a MUST, it does a great job paying respect to the originals
The Real Ghostbusters cartoon from the 80s was also really well done
Slimer was designed to resemble and honour Jon Balushi. Keep up the good work Knights!!
John Belushi was supposed to be in it but he passed away that’s how Bill Murray got into the film
@jonyoung1768 he was supposed to be venkman - ended up being slimer. Eddie Murphy was supposed to be Winston - ended up being axel Foley (Beverly hills cop)
That's why when Egon said there's a slight chance of survival, he raised his eyebrow. It was anther nod to Belushi
"Is she levitating?"
"She still looks hot!"
Yes!😂. I was about 12 years old the first time I seen Sigourney Weaver crawl out of that sleeping pod in "Alien", and I've loved her ever since.
Love Bill Murray. Would be so great to see a reaction to the absolute classic that is 'Groundhog Day' (1993) on the channel. ⏰️
Love that movie.
And *Scrooged*
Stripes - more Bill Murray, more Harold Ramis, + John Candy. Been a favorite for years.
Adding it to the list! Thank you for the suggestion 😄❤️
@@OfficialMediaKnights Oh snap, looking forward to that one. His second best movie.
"Sorry, we thought you were someone else."
Never fails to put me in stitches.
William Atherton, the EPA guy, also played the d-bag reporter in the first two Die Hard movies.
He was also the jerk professor in "Real Genius". He's the epitome of 1980s a-hole character actors.
Also cop that releases Ghostbusters from jail to bring them to the Mayor is Roy from Die Hard 1 if im not mistaken.
And best known as dad on Family Matters
@@Raven777777777777777 He's Al. John McClane used "Roy" as an alias, to fool the thieves on the walky-talky
@@charleslee8313 Yeah i forgot his name. It's been years since i saw that movie. Thanks
This is quintessential Bill Murray right here.
Freaking legendary film.
If you want to see Sigourney Weaver as the villain in a movie... check out Working Girl (1988) with Melanie Griffith and Harrison Ford. Well, not a villain but more the antagonist in the movie. It's sort of a 1980's Cinderella story on Wall Street.
There's a movie where she plays a con-woman, a comedy, and she's hilarious at it!
@@elcorado83 Heartbreakers with Jennifer Love Hewitt, I believe.
She was also villain in comedy Paul (2011). Short but great cameo 🙂.
If you really want Sigourney as a villain, try Snow White, a Tale of Terror. So good.
@@dark.cheshire.1065And Gene Hackman and Ray Liotta.
Another classic Murray and Ramis film to get to is Stripes. Same great chemistry and Murray at his best. Great reaction guys
Two people from Die Hard are in this movie Reginald VelJohnson and William Atherton.
And Reginald was in Turner & Hoch and the serie Family Matters too.
@@meteerbil2078 I feel like everyone above the age of 40 knows Reginald, purely from "Family Matters." I remember literally everyone my age watching that show back in the day. Hell, I remember talking about that show with my buddies in MIDDLE SCHOOL! lol
Notice he always plays a policeman 💙🖤
Both returning to their roles in Die Hard as a cop and a Dick.
I didn't notice until yesterday that in Ghostbusters, he's credited as Reggie Vel Johnson.
One of my favorite subtle gags is Louis, who will be possessed by the Keymaster, is constantly locking himself out of his own apartment.
Ghostbusters, Back to the Future, Top Gun, Indian Jones, Who Framed Roger Rabbit. So many iconic movies from the 80's.
Gremlins - a classic recommendation for the Christmas season..
Indian Jones? 😂
@@andreshernandez1180 Just noticed I did that. Sadly I had already edited the comment to fix "Who Framed Roger Rbbit" and didn't see I missed the "a" there too
Mannequin, Adventures in Babysitting, Clue, Neverending Story, The Princess Bride, Spaceballs, Her Alibi, Wildcats (Wesley Snipes, Goldie Hawn, LL Cool J, Woody Harrelson and football), Moonstruck, Ladyhawke - ahhhh!! Sooooooo many amazing movies!!
The Goonies, Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
But I don't think you can get more 80s than any brat pack film
If there's a theory out there, Dan believes in it!
Original Ghostbusters HQ is now a fire station for FDNY. Recently, all original cast members except Ramis visited there for Ghostbusters: Afterlife.
@@elcorado83 Lucky guy. Believing everything is way more fun than believing nothing. But it is pretty useless.
I've seen that Dan also had UFO experiences.
Well, we do know that one of Aykroyd’s favorite genres is _soul_ music. 😉
Along with _The Handbook for the Recently Deceased,_ _A History of Ghosts_ is highly recommended reading for anyone who becomes a ghost.
The copy we had got worn out from my nephew and niece playing it all the time 🤣🤣
It was our first rent for our VCR too! It was such a great experience!😊
Not only did I have Ghostbusters on VHS tape, I had the movie sound track on a record. Yes I was an 80's kid.
If you are interested, they made a Ghostbuster game with the original cast. The story was written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis.
The Ghostbuster game is heavily based on both the original idea for GHostbusters and the 3rd movie they were going to make. It was a lot darker thematically.
12:18 Denise: “no one can resist the charm of that pole.”
Audience: 🤭🤭🤭
The special effects were the highest peak during the 80's. This movie was one of them.
Zuul 😅
OMG! I can’t believe ya’ll haven’t seen it. I’m so glad ya’ll rectified this!
Your reactions always make me feel better when I have a bad day.
This is such a huge compliment, thank you so so much! We're glad if we are able to make your day just a little bit better!
The look on Akroyd's face when he says, "The Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man..."😂😂😂😂
Perfect mix of horror and comedy! One of my all time favorites that stands the test of time.
❤ I'm so happy to see you guys watching this. Thank you for giving me a smile, I really needed one today.
Imagine being a kid in the 80s seeing this for the first time! So lucky to have grown up back then!
Yup,I can confirm the 80s were great.
I was nine years old and actually got to see this in the theaters. One of the best movie going experiences of the 80s
RIP, Harold Ramis and Ivan Reitman.
They brought us this hilarious supernatural comedy film with a memorable theme song.
RIP, indeed, it's heartbreaking that we lost them! What talent!

You skipped the best part of the ESP test, when the guy gets the squiggly lines right, and Venkman still shocks him. Keep up the Awesome Work guys!
0:22 SHAME!!! 😂😂
This is a pure comfort movie, it really has re-watchability.
Harold Ramis (Egon) wrote Caddyshack and countless other comedy classics. He is a legend! RIP
I grew up with this movie, it’s just so iconic 🥺😭😭like I was obsessed with this movie when I was younger.
23:05 Notice Egon giving the hand signals for the price
I saw this movie at the theater and a whole bunch of times since then and only in the last couple years have I noticed that.
When I saw this in theaters with my friends they thought I was laughing at Peter talking to the manager and didn’t understand what was so funny. I told them we had to stay for the next showing and told them to watch Egon and they both cracked up laughing when they saw him.
I finally noticed the Stay-puft marshmallows on the counter next to the jumping eggs.
It’s so interesting hearing about the drafts of the scrip and what could’ve been! Thank you so much for sharing ❤️

Sad/fun fact: Slimer, the hotel ghost is based on Belushi's character from Animal House.
Pee Wee Herman as Gozer that would've been fun.
The producers read the original script and told them it would cost $200 million. That's 1984. Today it would be $600 millon. So Rings of Power.
Sigourney is one of the few people who looks good with an 80s perm.
I’m finding myself so entertained whenever Denise goes “Nooooooooo!!!!”
Super reaction to this iconic movie! I saw it in the theater when it first came out and although its popularity was obvious, who knew that it would still be this recognizable 40 years later.
What I love about this movie is how it was a comedy, a horror film and an action film all at once. I wish more movies could be this creative and ambitious nowadays.
One of my favourite stories from behind the scenes is Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray going for smokes at the store in the Ecto 1 😂
Bill Murray is a legend…
Nuff said.
Still my all time favourite movie. The Dana Barrett abduction scene still gives me goose bumps. Also; can we take a moment to appreciate Sigourney's scream when she slams the refrigerator shut!
For me, next to Army of Darkness and Princess Bride, is one of the most quotable movies. Still quote it till today
"Inconceivable!"
“Douche-canoe” has been added to my insult repertoire. 😂😂 Thanks Denise! 😂❤️

My brother and I dressed as Ghostbusters for Halloween back in the day. We had the action figures and firehouse with the platform that spun around the fire pole from top to bottom. Ghostbusters has been engrained into us 80’s/90’s kids
Wow the humor in this movie is 100% Spot On. Awesome movie like literally worth millions of laughs.
Oh so spot on, we had so so much fun!
Slimer was a spirit from the sedgewick hotel summoned by Ivo Shandor to eat everything it sees but it ended up failing lol..some lore for you.

12:20 The "good" one word one-liner has become a sort of verbal shorthand among my family for an outcome we all saw coming. It's astounding how much this film informed pop culture. For Gen X at least, it is truly iconic.
Thanks for watching it at last, great and good fun watching you see it for the first time!
the adverthat you see on the tv in the movie is the commercial they put during the SuperBowl and that is the only advertising they did for the movie, they received 2000 calls a day on their hotline and it made the anticipation for the movie even more
Phone numbers starting with "555" aren't real, it's a prefix specifically reserved for fake telephone numbers. You can't call them.
FYI When Ray Parker, Jr. was asked to write the song for ghostbusters, he was given a rundown on the movie and told them he would get back to them. He wrote the song in 30 minutes.
Ghostbusters with the Media Knights!? Absolutely YES!
You guys are the freakin’ best! ❤️
Eyewitness (1981) with her and William Hurt is great too.
Great reaction - you are one of my go-to reactors. I'm so glad I grew up in the 70s & 80s, so much more thought was put in to performances, script & direction in movies back then.
