I like what you did for the extra surface preparation area. Question: Did attaching it to the thin wood at the end of the island still provide the strength you were anticipating? Even with the backing wood, the weight is still carried by the thin insert wood, although the weight is spread out more. Just wondering how your approach travels. Again, a great idea.
It has held up quite well to be honest. It has held weight and given us so much more surface area. Beth uses it every week for her baking lay out and it is perfect!!!
