- There are a lot of perks to being a tattoo artist. Some are obvious-you get to draw on people, you make decent money, etc.-but there are also some hidden benefits. We asked our panel of tattoo artists to share some of the unexpected perks that come with the gig.

Was getting my tattoo finished last Saturday and the shop owner walks in, coffee in hand, I said” yo man I love your legs tattoos!” He looks back at me and says “ thanks, they really complement my fluffy socks and crocs and sweatpants I turned into shorts” that was the day I learned tattoo artist wear whatever they want
I normally take a bottle of wine to my tattoo artist. He always does a cracking job and is a lovely chap so he deserves it!

We prefer beer, edibles and fast food.

Michela and Jason are almost aggressively adorable at times lol
I have gifted my artist several different things but I always make sure I do tip. One time I noticed my artist was running low on some supplies so I bought her some (didn’t realize how expensive tattoo supplies were). Or food or money etc

The couple at the end. How sweet! Also, I relate hella hard with the "uncool" person with the sick gauges! Same happened to me. But now I'm retired and back to being uncool. Lol.
Honestly this is what I want, I have so much respect for artists, I've had great experiences so far and I haven't felt happier with anything else!
Jason's perk to Michela was my favorite thing ever
The only perk that matters, imo at least for me, is making my clients happy, and giving them the best possible tattoo. Or when they have tears of joy or closure, (typically with portraits of relatives)
I’m never upset or affected if my artist needs to reschedule. As long as they don’t ghost (I’ve heard of it but have never had it… so just professionalism) it’s ok. And I don’t need an explanation. Cause ya I’ve had a stomach bug two or three days before an appointment and I message them asap to be like “hey I don’t know how I’ll be that day so can we reschedule”. It’s all about respect
My boss should be on this channel he’s honestly one of the best tattoo artists! And he’s super funny and humble
True story. I once showed up wearing hot pants, wellies, a vest with the Playboy bunny on it and a pirate hat. Nobody batted an eyelid.

He's not wrong. You can buy a huge place in Indianapolis for super cheap... but then you have to live in Indianapolis.

I’m stationed overseas for the next year, but I hope to try and get an anime tattoo from Michela when I get back to the states 🙏🏽😩
The thing I like the most is that you get to be tattooed from head to toe without judging. It would be a dream if I could do that

I can never remember their names but the couple near the end are always my favourite 🥺
So, on top of paying my tattoo artist doing work on my sleeve, I left him a very generous tip and bought him dinner because he said he hadn't eaten since the night prior and it's almost 7pm the following day. He offered to deduct some of the cost of the work I still have to have done, but I declined it. He earned that pay and I wanted him to have every bit of it.
