Jamston Julian the two main reasons people hate Predator 2 are:Arnold isn’t in it,and it is in the city of LA and not the jungle.I love Arnold but I thought Danny Glover was great in P2.The city setting never bothered me.The Predators don’t just go to the jungle. They go all over the world to places of conflict to hunt.
Nice strawman, but most people don't like it because Stephen Hopkins is no John McTiernan, and setting it in the city took most of the mystique and threat away from the antagonist. I'm sure there's plenty of good reasons to like it, but there's plenty of legitimate reasons not to as well. Maybe just be satisfied with your own opinion rather than putting down others'?

@Soldier-2Point0 thank God this isn't VHS because it would end up like a blockbuster copy of the movie Basic Instinct when Sharon Stone uncross and cross her legs.
I don't think so. To be desensitized is generally understood to mean the removal of sensitization. If you are too young to understand violence and have never understood violence, you can't be desensitized of it, because you were never sensitized, so there's no sensitization to remove. I mean think of a more extreme example. "If you don't understand rape, you're already desensitized to it" the apparent proposed argument being that you should therefore be allowed to watch movies promoting rape, as a young child. No.
@@imnotdavidxnsx I think you're being a little too literal. A child who has not seen or witnessed violence before would quickly realize what's going on if someone attacked them or their parent, we have an instinct for self preservation and this self defense. When violence has only been experienced vicariously through film, a child will not understand the stakes involved, or that violence in films is dramatized.
What's funny is that I see that same ad on the infographics video. Except it took 10 seconds. Still 10 seconds isn't bad to me. But James making a 30 sec long ad but done in an interesting way. That I have not seen, but it was a nice touch.
I think Stiller tried to show that Broderick's character was at an extremely vulnerable point in his personal life, and therefore looked past some of the glaring red flags in Carey's character's persona. I always really liked the way Broderick goes back and forth on how much he trusts or even likes Carey's character. Cable guy is one of the most underrated comedies of all time.
Arnold, Stallone, and Van Damme dominated the 80s. I know most parents took their kids to see R rated films at that time. Why? Disney had almost no good cartoon films released during that decade. Action hero films mostly had simple plots kids could follow. Parents didn't have to sacrifice the adult content. The action kept everyone entertained. Winning combo. You either had Amblin (ET, BTTF, Gremlins, etc), Indiana Jones, or whatever the action heroes were making.
I'll go to bat for The Rescuers from that era of Disney (and The Rescuers Down Under), but you're right. Disney didn't get it's act together until the Disney renaissance, which in turn encouraged other studios. Even Don Bluth was in a lull during that period. The R-Rated movies totally filled that void. Even toy companies knew it, Robocop, Predator, Aliens and others all had kids toy lines.
I had pretty relaxed parents even for the 90s, so I ended up renting horror movies as a kid. Did not make me a serial killer or screw me up in any way and I am happy I did not have to grow up in today's over protective society.
Rather than Disney not having any good films, I felt it was more that most families didn't care horribly much. And even R-rated films ended up with kids toys and spin-off cartoons. PG-13 wasn't introduced until 1984. PG films at the time, even ones theoretically aimed at kids, could be violent, graphic, and with relatively mature themes. (PG could live up to its "Parental Guidance suggested") PG films could have scenes that arguably wouldn't even make it into a modern sanitized R movie. (I'm not saying all modern R movies are "tamer" than old PG films, but the ones aiming for wider appeal do get pretty sanitized.)
I was watching Robocop, Terminator 1 and Predator when I was 5 years old and most kids back then were watching R movies. Kids today would freak out watching that sort of stuff at 5. My nieces and nephews around that age are still watching cartoons and Disney movies.
I love the quality of the videos James produces. He manages to make even the promotion tie-in to the overall theme of the video, it's a class-act. Mad respect for the amount of effort, work and detail he puts into everything he does.
Initially, but it later went on to refer to that specific Italian cinematic style crossed with a Western. Spaghetti westerns tend to concentrate on individuals who are morally ambiguous but ultimately the lesser of all the evils that surround them. They're usually motivated by selfish needs, and any of the usual western tropes (saving the town, defeating the bandits, etc). You're right though, that is where the term originated and most (though not all) are Italian directors. There are Spaghetti Westerns made by French and Swedish directors.
I'm such a huge fan of your work. When I was a little kid my parents ran a convenience store, so they rented out movies. They closed it when I was around 5, but they kept all the VHSs. I bought a Sony VCR in the late 90’s because I had so many VHS I still cared about. Luckily, it still works great and I have almost all the VHS tapes I had as a kid (All 3 TMNT films, Enter the Dragon, Bloodsport, Kickboxer, Mortal Kombat, Predator.... and so on)
Most of the movies I really care about, I did end up buying on DVD. I keep them for nostalgia’s sake, especially the Disney animated classics in the clamshell cases.
Regarding Back to the Future and the statement “they made the fifties feel like the fifties” One of my clearest early memories was watching BTTF with my mom, who had been a teenager in the 50s (born 1940) and her saying to me, “ugh! The 50s were not like that!” In a way that told me she was actually insulted by the movie!
Geahk Burchill Well and to be fair, it’s a sci-fi comedy series. Predator 2 was what fueled Star Trek Voyager's episodes about the Hirogen. Worked behind the scenes when I used to set up quick edit stations for different movies and TV shows.
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. That movie absolutely terrified and sickened me as a little kid. I couldn't stand to watch it or anything else Gene Wilder was in until I was about 13 years old. Gave it another try, and it became my number one favorite movie of all time up to that point. Still can't watch the boat ride, but other than that, I became completely obsessed with it (especially Gene Wilder's portrayal).
Screw that movie. For some reason my school thought kids would like that freaky shit. Oompa loompas still freak me the fuck out, and kids getting eliminated by horrible means because they eat candy? Every damn part of that movie was at least a little creepy.
I heard that the stuff in the boat scene was kept secret from the actors, so allegedly their faces were 100% genuine confusion and or terror. Gene Wilder essentially mindfucked them to ensure he got great footage.
I’d have to go with Batman Returns. It doesn’t have the iconic Joker and has some slower moments than 1989 Batman because of Shreck and Penguin trying to get a power plant built and the political dealings with the mayor. Having watched it again as an adult, I think it’s quite a bit better than 1989 Batman and it is somewhat of an undercard classic and not as appreciated as it should be
When I saw The Matrix Reloaded at the theatres, I thought it was one of the worst movies I had ever seen. After watching the movie over and over again, it has become one of my favourite films.

I just realized (im slow at the uptake, sometimes), if Marty would have hit that Rolls Royce, it would have actually been the Rolls Royce driver's fault. I think in the movie, they always refered to it as Marty hitting the Rolls, not that the Rolls completely didn't stop at an obvious stop sign (t-junction).
I definitely flip flopped on the Star Wars Prequels. It took awhile for me to appreciate them for what they are rather than what I wanted them to be. I've even warmed up to Jar Jar Binks. Mars Attacks was a movie I practically worshipped as a tween but tried to rewatch it recently and it went as well as an airhorn and a hangover. Ditto all of Kevin Smith's movies: a collection of Histrionic Narcissists and Plot Holes.

Screw that movie. For some reason my school thought kids would like that freaky shit. Oompa loompas still freak me the fuck out, and kids getting eliminated by horrible means because they eat candy?
Every damn part of that movie was at least a little creepy.
only watched the remake. it's sick, it's fun.
I heard that the stuff in the boat scene was kept secret from the actors, so allegedly their faces were 100% genuine confusion and or terror. Gene Wilder essentially mindfucked them to ensure he got great footage.
Check out the sequel Snow Piercer :D
I’d have to go with Batman Returns. It doesn’t have the iconic Joker and has some slower moments than 1989 Batman because of Shreck and Penguin trying to get a power plant built and the political dealings with the mayor. Having watched it again as an adult, I think it’s quite a bit better than 1989 Batman and it is somewhat of an undercard classic and not as appreciated as it should be
cody8804 Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman. Meow.
@@kungfuman82 Meow? MeWOW!
I liked as a kid and love it as an adult..
Weaponized. Penguins.
You can't forget the beautiful master piece, Kiss From A Rose.
When I saw The Matrix Reloaded at the theatres, I thought it was one of the worst movies I had ever seen. After watching the movie over and over again, it has become one of my favourite films.
hey
I have had the opposite happen to me. X3
@@DefinitelyNotOwen it was a big drop in quality of the story
I hope this series stays around a while, I really enjoy the casual but informative conversations you guys have about these somewhat/very obscure films. All the guys have their own personality and unique view to contribute. Been a fan of Cinemassacre as a whole from the early days on TH-cam and I hope y'all keep up the great work, guys!
i love this new retro style video james!! and the video itself!! keep making more of these if you can!
Really enjoying this series, I can tell you guys had fun making these.
That Goodfellas dog painting t-shirt is hilarious.
Looks like someone we know. Hehehe.
Now go home and get your fucking shine box
I really thought im the only one that noticed that
You need to watch more movies that aren't Star Wars. (re: Goodfellas.)
James you cut out the part in the intro were the one guy goes down and you pop up and your mouth drops open… That was my favorite part
Had to make room for the ad. lol
I love this series and I love that room, I used to work at a Blockbuster and I'm seriously considering adapting one of the rooms in my house to look like this.
I love this take on movie reviews. Nostalgia, mixed with memories, mixed with nerd greatness.... James is the best TH-camr ever.....
I still think Jim Carrey's role as Chip Douglas was one of his best. That character had some roles to him and in the end he just wanted a friend.
Where did that guy get the Goodfellas painting t-shirt? That's awesome!!!
Lazarus Zoolander The old guy looks like someone we know.
Amazon.
@@JerryRiceBall without the bread it's him!!!
@@JerryRiceBall It looks like Fred Penner to me
Looks like Tommy Chong lol
"Cinematic Tyrannosaurus... Just like me..." LOL
I cannot express how much I LOVE THE INTRO to the rental reviews, I find myself watching it over and over!
17:24 there's a scene in Predator 2 where the bad guys do blow right before a shootout. Like it's a power up in a video game.
Predator 2 was always brilliant. “Want some candy?”
I Still Have My VHS Videos From When I Was A Kid.
Games And Movies Entertainment same here. Heck, I go out and buy some I always wanted from Goodwill etc sometimes
That's Awesome
I still have a VHS road runner tape without a VSH 😔
COOL
theyll never be worth anything
Jim looks like a wrestling promoter/announcer/manager in that Skillshare ad...
This series has become one of my favourite things on TH-cam. I love hearing you guys talk about the films you love.
I had seen Godzilla 1985 by the time I was in kindergarten. It scared the hell out of me back then . Now it happens to be one of my favorite movies from the franchise.
With Back to the Future I always ranked them 1, then 3, then 2.
the correct order
This might be a crazy thought but could Robocop and Hobo with a shotgun be in the same universe?
What would make you think that?
@@gplechuckiii they're both movies how do you not notice that
I always enjoyed Predator 2.
Love the videos as always very cool retro video intro . Miss rental stores so much
That ad at the beginning FITS PERFECTLY, good work James!
haven't gotten past it, but HAD to comment, thanks for making the ad palatable! It's nice to see the art hasn't been forgotten in the face of all these edgelords trying too hard, keep it up, looking forward to more advertisements now lol
Haha I'm Irish and my dad rented me Robocop as a kid
Gaelan Mulcahy “we had potatoes and whiskey while we watched.”
In Ireland he was called Robo guard.
Same here! Irish da's love that Robocop. 🇮🇪
I am a simple man - if somebody sponsors James, I am ok with it.
I love that concept of rental reviews. It's pretty refreshing and very funny. Can't wait to see in my inbox updates from cinemassacre.
In Predator 2 one of the cops in the beginning shootout was the Captain in Lethal Weapon. Another connection.
Rental Review is like Best of the Worst but with 3 Rich Evans and a Jay
I'm still waiting for James in botw crossover
@@dustysocarras6425 I thought that was self evident
Zampano Films they are more relatable tho. when James hangout with friends (mike or others) i feel like being there with them
Zampano Films Redletter dickriders remind me of Ja Rule dickriders
Zampano Films ikr no offense to you btw just a random thought
Spaghetti westerns in arizona??
I watched Back to the Future part 3 recently, and now I am an advocate for that film.
I know the beginning was an ad but James still found a way to make it funny
That was a clever way to do a sponser! I was genuinely entertained!
You guys never told me how late you are open til! (Love this series)
The last guy never actually said how he changed his mind about the movie.
Remember when he blew murphys hand off? That screwed a young wizard up
+John Ballard And then gets obliterated by that car! Good times.
The intro is incredible! Keep up the good work James
Your retro intro and outro are perfect!! Takes me back
Speaking of watching Robocop at a young age, I watched Evil Dead when I was 6 🤐💀
Did it negatively affect your opinion of trees?
I watched A Nightmare On Elm Street at 3yrs old and actually loved it
That's ok it's basically a slapstick comedy.
Jamston Julian you’ve never seen Evil Dead 1 lol
saw The Shining when I was seven, scared me for sure but now it's my favorite film of all time
Cable Guy has always been the shit! So underrated back in the 90s.. One of his best chars.
Oh hey I also grew with Robocop , Terminator and Predator. since we didnt have cable, my family just watched whatever was on tv
