The wife and l have hosted a few international budget travelers who we've had park up and camp out on our front lawn.
Wifi ,laundry, shower kitchen and cooking facilities are free and shared meals with the occasional beer wine and shared stories have always been great.

Excellent vid guys. 2 other points, usually you can't have anything inside your RV when shipping over. It needs to be basically empty.
Also have heard of stuff being stolen from vehicles during the shipping process so ensure you go with a reputable company, do your research and have insurance. :)

@@SarahandKeelanTravels yes absolutely. We plan to do 4-6 months and have researched taking our Motorhome over.
We also met a couple at Quobba who brought their Motorhome over here. They had gear stolen and when I researched it I found out it's not uncommon.

Hey guys..you mentioned fuel cost and that diesel is cheaper. There is a RUC (road user charge) for diesel vehicles to pay, usually when you return the hire vehicle. Lucky for you it's being discounted until July 21st.

NZ is a beautiful place enjoy,, make sure you go to Lake Tekapo, the church of the good Shepard right on the most gorgeous coloured water we have ever seen,, also the Observatory on Mount John ? , you can book to check out the stars, cheers, be safe you two..

would love to see a price comparison of buying a new van in aussie compared to nz, I'm thinking of heading to aussie in a couple of years and bring a off road van home with us as choice hear is very limited

This sounds quite similar to touring Tassie, you have a 80km drive planned and in WA generally done in under a hour, due to the winding roads of hills and mountains everywhere in Tassie 80km can take over 2 hours to cover.
Sounds exactly the same terrain aye! Bloody steep and slow going!! Takes us ages to get anywhere haha 😂

Diesel is cheaper in NZ as there is a tax system called "Road user chargers" (RUC's) which is about $70 every 1000km.

I cant for the life of me fathom why anyone would want to take vehicle/ van from OZ to NZ given the cost involved.
I would think there would be quarantine regs as well along with customs.
Then would have to reinstate the OZ regs when you brought the vehicle/van back

South Island is the best - like Oz , it is unique but so different to what we have! I think 4 weeks you will scratch the surface only! Cost is expensive - with food and drink more as well as fuel! Great place BUT expensive when we took our 2 kids there for 3 weeks 6 years ago …

In NZ you are better of with smaller English vans for lightweight and insulation... Off road vans are pretty much a waste of money. Very few places to take one compared to Aussie, and yes I have caravanned in both places :)
I disagree, spoken to soo many locals that think the extra clearance and capabilities will be awesome to get into there steep campsites they normally can only get camper trailers into.. the insulation of a urban caravan is the same standard as in the residential building code just FYI
