    You guys have no idea how much this NZ series is going to cost us. 😳
    Haven't been back since 92, these videos have made me so homesick for a place that was my home for 4 yrs so we are now going back next yr for 4/6 weeks. 😍

    My dear late mum use to always say if you want to see Europe but don’t want to travel go to New Zealand. If you can go to the Bay of Islands on the north island. Fantastic especially if a cruise ship is in.

      100% mate! Your mate mum wasn’t wrong about that! We get all sorts of Europe vibes over here!! Next trip we do will be to the north island!

    Definitely 3 Adam's Apple weather, you need one leg longer than the other
    wandering around some of that country.
    The scenery is great but I would be shivering so much it would all be a blur.

    Little trick, keep your batteries for camera and drone in bed with you or in your jacket pockets to keep them to hold their charge. I’ve camped in those areas in snow many times, cold but exhilarating aye. I think the word wee comes from the Scottish that migrated to S.I., great video, bought back many memories for me. Awesome.

    • @SarahandKeelanTravels
      @SarahandKeelanTravels  2 ปีที่แล้ว

    We are from Tasmania and when we were in NZ we asked for a bucket of chips. The guy thought we wanted a 2 gallon bucket of chips. We learnt very quickly ta ask for a small medium or large chips.

    • @SarahandKeelanTravels

      Hahahah that’s classic! Chips are soo cheap over here! 5$ will well and truely feed me and sarah! Couldn’t imagine 2 gallons haha 😂

    We went to NZ in 2002 and toured both islands for 1 month with the hire of a car and staying in rented accommodation, it was great to see all the wonderful scenery, but it would be great to do it with a caravan in tow.
    Looking forward to seeing more of your adventures around NZ. I've enjoyed the video's you've put out around OZ. We live south of Perth, so can relate to some of the places you've visited.

    • @SarahandKeelanTravels

    Would definitely benefit from a diesel heater, and a power hookup from the vehicle to the caravan for charging while driving. That's one of the best mods I've done to our caravan for winter travel.

    20:40 the sun always cuts a lower arc in Winter (still North), no matter where you are. Mid Summer is always overhead at AU and NZ latitudes.
    In Canberra, the angle between a rising sun in Summer Equinox and Winter Equinox is about 25 degrees on the Azimuth. Solstices are the longest and shortest days of the year, so Dec 21 and Jun 21. All solar panels facing True North in Canberra, incidentally, are tilted to 25 degrees.
    Peak Solar Areas (PSA) are an interesting feature of Australia. The BOM provides a map of PSAs for Australia, which shows that PSAs differ markedly in 'hot' areas, as well as 'cold' areas. Going North in warmer areas does not guarantee a good PSA.

    • @SarahandKeelanTravels
      @SarahandKeelanTravels  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah okay, interesting stuff! Didn’t know the BOM had that on there website! I’ll have a look! Cheers mate

    Hi guys have been following you both for a year now enjoy your humour and content. We travelled 5000klm in the South Island in a hired (Percy) before the Christchurch earthquake and loved it. There are so many things for you to see and do you will love it. We stayed in motels. Only stayed for 31/2 weeks not long enough. I’m jealous.

    I think you may have got feet and metres mixed up when talking about the height of Mount Cook. It is actually 3,724m (12,218ft) high. Really enjoy hearing an Aussie (or two) with good things to say about New Zealand. I imagine that one difference you are noticing is that you don't have to travel large distances to get places here. We are a small country, which makes it ideal for tourist travel.

    • @SarahandKeelanTravels

    Great footage from the land of the long white cloud.
    For charging your electronics, try and use the 12V cigarette sockets in the van so you don't have to leave the inverter on. You can also get 12V to 19V adaptors to charge your laptop for your next trip to NZ.
    Keep up the entertainment for us all.

    Super Video again Guys - Your great ambassadors for NZ. Our Tourism NZ should be sponsoring you. Yes our sun has a low arch in Winter, even more so in the South - But High & normal in Summer. For Aussies, you sure picked a strange time in the season to come over - especially compared to Auz. Not fully in Winter which i could understand if you were into Skiing but sort of out of season for some warmish weather also.
    You gotta come back and do all the coastal spots/ camps on the Eastern Coastline of the North Island - you will love it - Great Beaches & Great Fishin

    It's sometimes called big country down that way. Guess why? 😀 If you look on Google maps the colour of some of the lakes stands out, a very bright blue. Years ago I was planning a microlight trip down there and thought the colour had been doctored somehow, but why? When I got there it's for real. Apparently caused by being glacier fed. Hope you enjoy yourselves, it's definitely stunning country. You certainly picked the cold time of year though. Probably the hottest part of nz in the summer time as well, a land of extremes.

    • @SarahandKeelanTravels
      @SarahandKeelanTravels  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      big country because off all the massive mountains haha? yes! the water is really blue isn't it! I Think they say you can tell the where the water has come from due to its colour, so that particular blue is rain water as well as melted snow/glacier water apparently~ we love getting the real NZ experience here In the cold haha

    • @avid6186
      @avid6186 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SarahandKeelanTravels We have plenty of hills in the north island as well, but they certainly aren't as big as the middle of the south island.
      The rain and snow melt rivers tend to be clear, or dark blue when deeper. The very bright blue I'm thinking about is lake Pukaki, have a look on google maps satellite view to see what I mean, a real contrast. Apparently caused by glacier "flour" in the water. Ground up rock in other words. Whatever it is, stunning place.
      Bet its a bit cold there at the moment? A heater upgrade is going to be a must for NZ. Diesel will certainly be an option. I think many here (perhaps even most?) use LPG heaters? I don't know why that is, presumably cheaper?
      Just as a matter of interest, why did you choose to do a winter trip? Haven't heard you say anything about going skiing which is the main attraction to winter South island. It's certainly going to be a bit different to Aus.
      As a kiwi your comments on the cost of living make me a bit sad, although not surprised. Suspect there is going to be quite an exodus to Aus in the near future, again! The last few days I've even started hearing adds on the radio to come and live/work in WA. Not good for the future prospects of NZ.
      Thanks for your efforts, when you cant get away on holiday yourself watching you guys is the next best thing. Thank you.

    Keelan the big off road van looks a bit of overkill and heavy for NZ with all those big hills……Small is a beautiful thing and I reckon Keith is a much better option for two all round….fuel, rego, insurance, tyres, handling, parking etc etc and at the end of the day as long as you have a comfy bed. If I ever buy a van I don’t think id go over 16ft and probs wouldn’t go full off road. I had unexpected cloudy weather on a recent trip to 14 Mile near coral bay WA. I was so sure my new plan to cook on induction and air fryer would be fine because I had 500watts of solar I left my gas cooker at home. Ended up having to use someone elses gas, and borrow a generator and charger to keep the batteries happy enough to keep my fridges going. And a few hours idling the car here and there. What a fail; all my eggs in one basket so to speak. Maybe you could run a small generator for a few hours a day to help too.

    • @SarahandKeelanTravels
      @SarahandKeelanTravels  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey mate, air fryers and inductions use heating elements which draw upwards of 100amps (depending on the size) if you run these things you need more than 500watts
      We have almost 500ah of lithium and we run these things however we have 840watts and sometimes I think I need more than that! Sounds like a good trip though! Hope this helps

      It could be said NZ is a land of extremes. The bottom of the south island is totally different to the top of the north island. Even where they are now is so different summer to winter. You are currently seeing how cold it can be, but usually nice fine days. In the summer they are just as likely to be the hottest in the country. Just dress and act accordingly, it's worth the effort.

I wonder if it’s because, there is not much point in splashing out $100K for a van, when the country is fairly small, and there is only so much mileage you could get out of it. Oz is so big you could spend a lifetime exploring it, I suspect NZ would take six to twelve months at the most.
