All it would take is a single player suing the team for the rule to vanish, the beard rule policy is actually a direct violation of NY state law. Kay is wrong about never losing a player over the hair policy, all the players against it simply choose not to sign with the yankees. This Yankees team isn't the Ruth team or the 50's teams, this team is simply another team in baseball.
@@eddya.3776 Yes there is its under the human rights act of the state that forbids any employer from discriminating against head and facial hair for any reason. It would only take a single person affected by the Yankees rule to file a state lawsuit to make the Yankees be forced to remove it. To say the players cannot sue is ridiculous you can sue for pretty much anything in the USA, especially for something the law of a state expressly forbids.
They could sue, but anyone can sue anybody for anything. The fact remains, this is an employment at will, and the players signed a contract knowing what the rules are when they joined the Yankees. Good luck with that lawsuit.
The real point of doing it in the military is for hygiene and non-individuality. I love that the Yankees have a no facial hair rule. It sets them apart from the rest of the players. Thank you Michael!
Name: Prime David Price. In the early 2010’s when he was becoming an UFA he said he wouldn’t come to the Yankees because of the policy. And at the time Price was one of the best starters in the entire league, and the Yankees desperately needed pitching outside of CC.

Bryan Wilson and David Price were two players with beards who refused to play for Yankees because of that policy. This is the answer Michael is looking for.
As a yankee fan, this is the dumbest rule in sports. If I was a professional baseball player I’d never want to play for a team with such an outdated and ridiculous rule
Michael says he doesn't care. There have been multiple examples, all over the internet, about him caring about long hair and beards. In fact, im currently watching a Yankees spring training game against the Blue Jays and he couldn't get off the topic of Mattingly's beard(now bench coach of the Jays)...crazy bro.
If having a beard and long hair is undisciplined, as if grooming is a true reflection of a person s character, then what is Juan Soto, from the age of 19, grabbing his crotch and staring at the pitcher in some weird, childish attempt at intimidation ? The Yankees dont want to look bad as an organization, but then go out and get a player who exhabits this type of obnoxious , classless behavior. Maybe worst yet, he is almost never criticized for this , and the teams he has played for turned a blind eye towards it, as it seems the Yankees intend to do.
I like the rule. It sends a message to the players. No single player is bigger than the team/ the franchise. Plus, every business has standards for their employees to uphold.
Let's be honest...It's a STUPID STUPID STUPID rule!!! A beard doesn't make you sloppy... It would even be ok if you say any facial hair must be well groomed... Nobody would have a problem with that... Even if you say no long beards... That also is ok... I would be SHOCKED if it hasn't at least been a "part" of the decision making of some players. We have lost out on many players over the last decade... And honestly it's a boring look (the whole team with no facial hair)...
As a lifelong Yankee fan I say that I love the clean look of the Yankee players, it shows respect for the game and the fans by not looking like they just rolled out of bed and couldn't be bothered to shave and shower.

The batter doesn’t get a warning for that, but when the pitcher hits the next batter in the ribs with a fastball the ump warns the pitcher and both teams, or the benches clear and all Hell breaks loose. They’re professionals do they really need to flip their bat when they hit a HR? Showboating or Taunting shouldn’t be allowed, kids watch and emulate these players. We should be setting better examples for them on how to respect each other on and off the field. A better set of rules and consequences for breaking them would go a long way to putting an end to that nonsense. Taunting is a penalty in the NFL. In baseball ( these days) it’s “let the kids have fun”. Freedom is great but when our actions encroach on others rights and freedoms disaster is right around the corner in sports and in life. Sorry man, Excuse me for rambling!
Imagine getting paid millions and having a discussion over beards and hair. What’s next West Point Cadets with braids? Rules work fat Don.
People bring up a few Yankee traditions that need to go. The facial hair policy, no names on the back of the jerseys and no alternative uniform from the traditional home pinstripes and road greys. It's 2023. The Yankees are leaving a ton of money on the table with all three policies.
They shaved without a complaint Michael because there is nothing in their contracts or collective bargaining agreement to where they can fight it! Unless somebody was waiting to go to court to fight the Yankees & MLB over this of course they will comply because they all need to get PAID!
Yes, there are standards with companies, but Kay getting so emotional over this IS defending the Yankees whether he admits it or not! If it wasn't personal than why get so worked up Kay?
Kay is part of the problem with baseball! Old school. No names on the jersey. No beards. Don't Asterix the records, just have confusion over steroids but MLB didn't turn the revenue back to the fans they made off of Bonds, Sosa, Mcgwire.
I love the baseball & my Yankees, but Kay is out of touch here, some of the rules are out of date and need to be changed. That's life!
David Price said he wouldn't come here because of the policy.
stay away David
It's funny, we can have full beards in the Navy, but they can't have one on the Yankees
Being clean shaved doesn't make you professional i wish people got that
mix the rule up, add the beard to the mustache, which is already allowed and keep the short hair rule where it stands@@jordy65056
@@jordy65056 if i am to pay a player 10Million a year he better follow the rules otherwise get lost
@@jordy65056 there are some of these baseball guys like marsh who are completely unkempt
@@JohnM-sw4sc if you wanna ban extreme hair grow like marsh, (which i wouldn't do) i get it...but the Yankees aren't banning that they're banning every single beard even the low ones even a little tiny beard is banned
I am a 72 year-old lifelong Yankees fan with a beard headed towards my navel. The Yankees are undoubtedly the best-looking cleanest cut sports team in any league. Today there are a lot of athletes that almost look homeless. It is refreshing to know there is still a team that takes pride in the appearance of their players. After all the players are still employees and management does have the right to make a few rules.
Agreed. The Boston Red Sox always look like a bunch of pathetic slobs.
Damm right
Damn wrong. Get rid of that BULLSHIT STEREOTYPICAL RULE! GTFOH CHANGE IS INEVITABLE
Yeah but when it hurts your actual team because players won't sign there due to Taxes and the Hair and Beard rule you aren't doing right for your business. This team is a joke and "Clean cut" doesn't mean anything besides maybe an Inferior product on the field. Time to Grow up and progress with the world.
@robbie5138 good grief grow up, never have they lost a player because of that😅🤣😂😂 u must be 5 yrs old thinking these clowns on other teams looking like dirty nasty homeless ppl unable to bathe look ok.its a joke 😅🤣🤣😂😂
“Othani doesn’t have a beard” buddy that’s not from his lack of trying, it’s genetics
The Reds have a zero facial hair policy!!! Zero!!!! U pay anyone enough they will shave! Actually just saw Reds lifted this policy!
Bro I like my job of 24 yrs because of the flexibility but quite frankly that’s the YANKs my man. The Old Man was a MF but he loved the franchise almost like a family member. And yes I respect that to the utmost. Great example of the no names on the jerseys. You may not believe it but of if I could own the Yanks I would still rock my “ goatee” 😂.
There is no law that states that the Yankees can't have this rule and the players can not sue.
@@strange-universe MLB is not exempt from discrimination laws under human rights charters.
If a player got petty and sued the Yankees for this they'd get exiled from baseball lol. Career instantly over
They could sue, but anyone can sue anybody for anything.
Exactly right
It's a stupid, discriminatory policy that should be challenged in court and thrown out.

Im not a Yankees fan and I have a beard myself but honestly I like this no beard rule. Carry yourself with class, you're representing the organization a historic one at that(hurts praising the Yankess as a Red Sox fan btw) so shaving everyday shouldn't be an issue. Also George made this decision, respect and honor his decision to this day
I just don’t understand how having a beard isn’t “classy.” I’m not talking about a big lumberjack beard either
So, having a beard is classless? What a stupid comment, especially considering you have one yourself. I guess you're classless then.
Peter and Don sporting beards had ZERO to do with their ridiculous argument.....
Super hairy Red Sox won a World Series.
so ?? Keep the rule I say.
Yeah just a couple. Compared to the Yankes.
Multiple players have said they wouldn’t play for the Yankees due to it. There’s a Wikipedia page about it.
Michael your right !
Bryan Wilson and David Price were two players with beards who refused to play for Yankees because of that policy. This is the answer Michael is looking for.
Yankees didn’t want neither of them
We wanted Luis Castillo And He made it known he wasn’t cutting his Long Hair don’t trade him to Yanks,,,,,,

As a yankee fan, this is the dumbest rule in sports. If I was a professional baseball player I’d never want to play for a team with such an outdated and ridiculous rule
Kay says he doesnt wanna talk about it, but hes the 1 who brought up the convo
Stupid policy. They run around and get dirty. But beard is bad? Lol.
😂 Kay defensive is hilarious he is behind it. 🤣 2023 bro get over it your red in the face
Kay is dead on. Don't like it? Don't play for the Yankees! and Maybin is an out of touch has-been that can't even grow a beard! lol
Thank you for uploading this from uranus!
One Professional with TWO clown book ends
Don needs to shave those sideburns!
Donny baseball got benched for refusing to shave and then the rule was thrown out the window for the 1995 playoffs
I must say i agree with Michael on this
Does this really have to be explained to Michael Kay 🤷♂
Brian Wilson didnt want to go to the yankees because he did not want to shave
I like the rule. It sends a message to the players. No single player is bigger than the team/ the franchise. Plus, every business has standards for their employees to uphold.
How does having a beard/long hair imply that you think you’re bigger than the team?
Kay is EXACTLY RIGHT
There's an article from 2021 . Stating Luis Castillo reds teammates. Said the hair policy might be an issue for going to the Yankees
Talking to two guys with beards
I agree with Michael 100%
Brian Wilson and David Price both said they wouldn’t come because of the appearance policy
Who asked them ? just stay away

Mr K is just mad he can't grow facial hair....lol😂
Kay showing that white guy rage defending the Yankees
if a player chooses to have a simple beard over millions and a chance to win , i don’t want the player in the first place
You say that like the Yankees are the only team in the majors that you can make millions with.
@@zachstolpa6521 how about chance to win? playoffs every year
As a lifelong Yankee fan I say that I love the clean look of the Yankee players, it shows respect for the game and the fans by not looking like they just rolled out of bed and couldn't be bothered to shave and shower.
I'm a yankee fan and im ready for them to have beards
I think they should have at least minimal beard
Jack McDowell tried to fight it but eventually gave in
Probably a no strip club rule during the season would be more effective creating order and discipline
I think the Yankees should stop putting numbers on the jerseys because it encourages too much individuality. Im sure fans will just love it 😂
I support this rule. Johnny Damon is a great example!
