Lovely painting. Great seeing you use cold wax medium and explain how it worked in this one. Very helpful. Thanks

Very nice little painting Bruce. Your use of palette knife and brush compliment each other quite well and create a great deal of interest along with the texture of the cold wax medium. I especially enjoy how you lay in a great amount of detail into a small painting without making it too busy, Each rendering is like a little artistic gem. Thanks for sharing. Your videos continue to be an inspiration to me.

I am going to try that medium. Congratulations on your acceptance to Oill Painters of America. Good job.

Beautiful work Bruce, Great atmosphere in this painting. I also use cold wax medium, I like it coz it dries quickly and it gives a good texture to the finished work🎨👍😊

I think I will try that medium Bruce. Occasionally I paint large semi-abstract pieces with a palette knife and it should be fun to try for those paintings. Nice quick little painting by the way and congratulations on having your painting accepted for the show.

Thanks for checking out the video. The next test of the product will be to see how it does for doing a detailed painting. I don't expect it to be conducive to that type of painting because of it's consistency. We'll see....

I love the texture you achieved... I may have to give this medium another try. I used it in thin layers for a detailed painting and struggled with it a bit. Also that Sevres blue is beautiful! And I did not know you could use a thumb drive with an iPad!

Hi Anna - Thanks for watching the video. I use a Lexar Jump drive (lightning connection) to load images from my computer and then access them after plugging in the jump drive. You just have to download the Lexar app.

Hi Andrea - Sorry for the late reply....I have issues with my YT notifications sometimes. Thanks for watching the video. I've had a lot of fun experimenting with the cold wax medium......interesting texture.

I use cold wax for making my paint "break". As in Bill Alexander, Bob Ross style snow. Makes the paint thicker and I only use it for certain things so its better for me than to buy an entire new set of paints.

Yes...cold wax is the "bomb". I got excited about it after seeing a person I follow on FB ( Jane Boyd) use it in her work . It's so visceral....I need to incorporate it more often.

Hi Bruce, it's a cool medium for sure, I've used it, also I've used it as a varnish also to Matt my painting down, very good medium to use👍I enjoyed the video 🎨

Thanks. Yes...I've heard that it can be used as a varnish...might try it on some small pieces first.

Do you know how to retouch painting with cold wax? the painting has been drying for few months

What are you painting onto, and how was it prepared? I see numerous people say it is best to paint on "wood" when using cold wax and oils. If wood, do you coat it first... with what? Love the first scene's painting you are doing on this video! TY for sharing.

Hi Steven - I always use MDF board when painting on panels. Sometimes the panel is prepared with an acrylic gesso, other times an oil ground. I don't use it enough to comment on the suggestion that cold wax should be used on wood panels. I don't see how that would make a difference. I've tried painting on wood panels and am always disappointed in their slight warping...even after coating/sealing both sides...not worth the hassle. The MDF panels are a 1/4 inch and have never warped. Thanks for watching the video.

@@habowskistudio2724 thanks for the info. i guess then that 1/8" thick birch panels i was thinking about... could warp... going from your experience? thanks again for your response - much appreciated!

Hello beautiful work, one question: Is possible to paint with regular oil colors on the
canvas previously painted with oil mixed with cold wax?...because I was
thinking to profit the texture I did in the previous work...

Hi - Sorry for the delay in answering....I was out of town. The paintings I have done with cold wax were alla prima, so I am not sure of the technical answer for you in terms of later layers with regular oil.

  • @goilo888

So, with this particular piece how long would you say you had to wait before the medium was “set”, i.e. hard enough to safely ship?

    • @habowskistudio2724
      @habowskistudio2724  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I would usually wait about 3 weeks and then wrap it with some Glassine paper and then cardboard on the facing after it's framed to protect it.
