- In this video, I will show you how to use NodeMCU Firebase MIT App Inventor to make ESP8266 GPS Tracker for your car, bike or any vehicle. I am using MIT App Inventor to make an android app for realtime tracking using google maps. NodeMCU ESP8266 and Neo6M GPS module is used for sending GPS coordinates to the Firebase Realtime Database and then our Android App with connect to the Firebase Database and update the Google Maps in realtime.

not possible with the same code. you will have to update the code for esp32. the project is only works with esp8266 boards

@@rickk6740 its not really hard but it is time consuming, because it required to replace all some parts of the code must be modified to esp32 code. it also required proper testing of the project again, to make sure everything is working fine. and it is very time consuming

How can i power up nodemcu using lithium ion cells 18650? I tried to supply the vin with 7.3 V but when I connected multimeter to the vin and the gnd pin , it displayed 0.5v. Whereas the voltage provided is 7.3V
first of all 18650 cell are 3.7v
The NodeMCU requires a minimum input voltage of 4.5V to operate, so if you are supplying it with only 3.7V, it will not function properly. Here are some options you can consider:
Use a boost converter: You can use a boost converter to increase the voltage of your lithium-ion cells to a suitable level for the NodeMCU. A boost converter will take the 3.7V input voltage and convert it to a higher output voltage, such as 5V or 3.3V, which is suitable for the NodeMCU.
Use a voltage regulator: You can use a voltage regulator to regulate the voltage output from the lithium-ion cells to a stable 5V or 3.3V, which is the recommended voltage for the NodeMCU. You can connect the output of the voltage regulator to the VIN pin of the NodeMCU.
Use a lithium-ion battery pack: You can use a lithium-ion battery pack that provides a higher output voltage, such as 7.4V-8.4V. You can connect the positive terminal of the battery pack to the VIN pin of the NodeMCU and the negative terminal to the GND pin.
Use a USB power bank: You can also use a USB power bank to power your NodeMCU. USB power banks typically provide a stable output voltage of 5V, which is suitable for the NodeMCU. You can connect the USB power bank to the micro-USB port of the NodeMCU.
Make sure to use a good quality lithium-ion battery protection circuit to prevent overcharging, over-discharging, and short-circuiting of the cells. Also, be careful when handling lithium-ion cells as they can be dangerous if mishandled or used improperly.

it is very complex to use firebase with sim800l. so, It is not as easy as some one think

I did not set any interval for this. so the data is send to firebase one after another.

Removed the error by installed Firebase ESP client and included it but got a new error as follows:
Compilation error: cannot convert 'const char [51]' to 'FirebaseConfig*' {aka 'fb_esp_cfg_t*'}
Working now. The latest version of Firebase ESP lib caused the problem. Have to use the version you used.
1. try some older version of firebase client library.
2. install some older version of esp8266 core from the board manager in arduino ide

what communication was made between Esp8266 and App Inventer???
esp8266 sends gps data to Firebase using wifi.
then gps data is store in Firebase database.
and then, mit app is used to get data from Firebase.
so, there is no direct communication between esp8266 and mit app. there is a middleman (Firebase Database) that receive gps data from esp8266 and then send that data to mit app.

My nodemcu didn't send location when it was powered through buck converter. It connected to Wi-Fi but neogps light didn't blink.
But when I used USB to power up Nodemcu, the neogps red light started to blink.
And it sent location to the server.
then you need to use a higher rating buck converter.
can i change the NODEMCU for an esp32?

Hi, thank you so much for the helpful video, but I found a problem when my GPS module wasn't on at all, let alone blinking, it wasn't on. Did my GPS module not get power, or might it be damaged?
if you have used the gps module for the first time. it will takes 1 to 2 hours to connect. so, connect the gps module to nodemcu and let it ON for 2 to 3 hours.
if it not work. then replace you antenna and test it again

You have included the Wi-Fi credentials of your home router in the code, allowing it to connect to your home network when you are there. However, when you are at school, it will not be able to locate your home network and connect to Wi-Fi. To solve this, you can configure your mobile hotspot's credentials in the code, which will enable you to use the project from anywhere.

this gps is design to work outdoor. but I have built and tested it at home and I find to know it work perfect indoor, at least in my home

Ahmed bhai another issue is, I am using the same code but I get an exception (0) error and then error like reset cause 2, boot mode(3,6) sometimes it is (3,7). I have tried so many solutions, I have tried disabling and enabling watchdog timers and stuff. Nothing works.

1. check antenna of gps module.

@@mewhenthe2873 I have used software serial library to communicate with gps module. but esp32 does not support software serial library. but for esp32 you can communicate with gps module without any library. it only supports hardware serial. so, you need to convert the software serial part from the code to hardware serial.

@@abir4930 don't just copy the url from arduino ide, copy the url from the website of firebase. That would fix it 😊
why it is say "Connecting Firebase..... Firebase OK. No valid GPS data found."
its mean your gps module is not connected to any satellite. check your gps module's led light status. if it blinks in every seconds, its mean it connected to satellite and it will provide valid data. if led light of gps module not blinks at all, its mean there is some issue while connecting to the satellite. please change the position of the gps module and test it again
