The first building was the Ice Cream shop and they also tore down the big green Tshirt shop. They are currently working on the elevator for the Sombrero. They have a Facebook group and they keep it updated about the going ons of everything SOB
This video made me subscribe to your channel. I was at South of the Border in April 2022 (I am a youth sports photographer and was on my way to a job in Myrtle Beach) I made a couple vids too, but your movie is much better! Very detailed, and I like your humour. I hadn't been to South of the Border since 2005, and before that the 1980s. I do recall going up in the tower, but I think that was about 40 years ago. This trip, it was sad seeing the tower unavailable, and the amusement park lying barren. But I did enjoy the experience nevertheless. I also stayed at their fine motel inn. Everything was clean, quiet and calming
Last year I was going around my charity shops (thrift srores) here in the UK and found alot of slightly old South of the border items was so cool to see .
Always loved the billboards for South of the Border along the highway, and then driving past it - never stopping - when parents and I made our annual trips to Myrtle Beach!
Suggestion: Reclaim Arcade in Fredericksburg, VA. Exit 130 off I95 North. An arcade that you enter through a retro VHS video store. You can pop a classic movie in the VCR or play classic home video games in a recreation of your grandmother's basement. The arcade itself has all the classic video games, and a huge variety of pinball.
Please please stop in Albany NY, my home town. I'm sure would love the Empire State Plaza. Home to NYS Museum and Albany History and Art. Can just jump right back on 87 to go up to ADKs.
I have fond memories of SOB from my childhood. In the 60's - 70's we would travel from western NY to Fl to visit relatives long before the interstate was built. Our family loved all the amusing bill boards along the way. Stopped every time to stretch our legs, grab a snack and take pictures will all the silly animals. I continued that tradition with my own children and proudly display a SOB sticker on my truck.
Thank you for sharing. I Miss Stuckey's (I don't have them where I live). I used to stop by South of the Border and Stuckey's every time I travelled to my grandparents' house when I was growing up.
I always remember passing by South of the Border each time I would visit family in NC as a kid. I didn't realize how popular it was until I actually visited one time. Glad to see that you got some footage of it!
I love chicken livers, but have never had them fried. I used to love going to Stuckey's with my parents as a kid. I think we used to hit one up in PA. You've visited my childhood. I loved when we stayed at SoB. Back in the day, if your room was green everything in it was green, including toilet paper, toilet water and facial tissues. It was a hoot. We stayed several times over the years...
We lived in Myrtle Beach for 25+ years and always used a short cut while traveling north, around SOTB. Once they had a great arcade, small amusement Park and the Sombrero Tower ride, which all were wonderful. The rides are long gone, as are the trips up in the Tower and the arcade is filled with junk. Sad to see it going downhill ,Ike this, but I’m sure the property now is worth more then the business is making. So if you have ever wanted to go, go soon as this might not be here in a few years!
I remember years ago when I was a kid the billboard signs whent on forever Pedro says hungry yummy food 65 miles . Of course it was 50 years ago . Fun memories.
As a South Carolinian, South of the Border has always been kind of an embarrassment for our state...until you actually stop there and see it is quite interesting! Just like you showed us, with the Reptile Lagoon, and the clean hotel. I bet that steak was amazing too! So, don't judge a book by its cover!
I actually love the smell of pepper with those to-go napkins, but I can definitely understand that it would be annoying if you don't like that kind of thing
I always enjoyed stopping at South of the border on road trips and really enjoyed watching your walk around tour. I’ve always wondered what the inside of the motel rooms looked like, so I’m glad that you stayed there. I hope your stay was enjoyable.
I was just at South Of The Border back in September and stayed for two nights at the Motor Inn there. Adam The Woo was also there not too long ago but it was freezing the day he recorded his vlog. By the way Jacob, if you happen to be near Colonial Heights, Virginia just off I-95 near Richmond, you may want to stop at the world's largest Arby's. Not really a roadside attraction, but to be in the world's largest anything is pretty cool.
Meaning your room was obviously not cleaned. I would have nicely taken the towels to the desk and asked for it to be cleaned and/or another room that was clean.
Hey Carpetbagger if you like gators and snakes there is a place in North Myrtle Beach, it has them and other animals, it is called Gator Adventure. They do gator feeding shows and other other animal shows. My favorite is the kookaburras.
Our family stopped there in about 1966. It was a blast for us kids! And, it was the one and only time in our childhood we got to buy some fireworks. Normally our parents said we can't afford to waste money on them and they are too dangerous. But my Dad weakened and we got some and had a ball with them. Didn't get hurt either. Later I became an eye surgeon and a professional licensed pyrotechnician. So thanks SOB for having a start in me becoming a pro fireworks display operator!! Interestingly, in 35 years of practice, I have only seen two fireworks eye injuries in a state that allows fireworks use 365 days a year.
5:00 I've been to Hawaii but not Alaska yet, I've been to 17 states and 1 territory at the time of this video (OH, WV, VA, PA, NC, FL, MD, DC, NJ, MI, TX, CA, HI, IL, CO, MT, WY, and UT in that order).
Been about a week and some change I’ve been on your channel and it’s gold dude. I love that you don’t gotta be explicit and extra , you’re yourself and it’s cool ! Super sweet channel ma dude ! Love from California

Jacob, look up Plumpton Park Zoo in maryland. If you are traveling via I-95, it is less than a 20 minute drive off the highway. It is a small town zoo that almost went bankrupt a few years back but was revived by the new owners. If you contact the zoo in advance you might be able to feed a giraffe also.
At one time, there was a Stuckeys near Sacramento. But being from Texas we loved the store. When I saw where you were, I almost cried. I have many memories of my family enjoying a Pecan log. We always said peCON not PeCAN!!!
I'd love to see you visit the Finger Lakes Wine trail, along with the beer trail. Got a designated driver? We have some great fun wineries here! Finger Lakes NY btw, since you said you're visiting Upstate NY, although Finger Lakes is between northern upstate and western ny.
If you go through the centerish of PA.. go to the Pa Grand Canyon.. view is amazing!! Hiking trails will be closed bc of the weather/ season. But still worth it! It’s located at Wellsboro, Pa!
The tower was open when we were there 2 weeks ago !!!! We didnt have time to go in thou! I still can't believe we were there so close to when you were...and I literally haven't been on vacation or a trip for 20 years!!! What r the odds we almost bumped into u! Man that would have been so cool!!!✌️✌️✌️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I see Uckin better than Licken too. My same peeve, the strong pepper smell of the napkin. I get tickled seeing the 'lil kid come out of you. Kind of makes it extra special. Loved seeing South of the Border aerial view. Big place with lots of attractions to make for a nice family day out. Dinner looked very inviting. Restaurant seemed to have a relaxing atmosphere. The hotel room was rather nice.
Love your update on SOB!!! Saw your older video earlier today and was amazed at the immensity of the entire complex!! Sad to see the t shirt shop and ice cream shops are gone!! I have relatives in both N.Car and S.Car. I may get to see SOB yet!!!!! Well done video. Attaboy, Carpetbagger!!!!
So my mom went to south of the border with my sisters in the 90’s when they were younger. Since it’s an old attraction, it was obviously a lot more new back then. Ever since a young girl my family has stopped here. I've never seen the rides open. The motel was very basic and nothing to talk about. We did visit the stores and the restaurant.

That has to be the most shadiest motel/hotel I've ever seen you stay in. My skin is crawling.
Dan Bell and Rick Serra should do an episode of Another Dirty Room there!!
Youre a brave man Jacob
Eating and sleeping at south of the border
I would eat there but definitely not stay. If I found that dirty towel, I would have been gone.
Thanks for coming to Dillon, SC...
If you love reptiles and snakes, you should make a stop at Reptileland in Lewisburg, PA! They even have animatronic dinosaurs!🦕
Poor crocs don't have a lot of room to be anywhere active.
Thanks Jacob.
Awesome Work Bro, Thanks 👍👍😀 Greetings from Helsinki, Finland 🇫🇮🇺🇸🇫🇮🇺🇸
The more I see South of the Border, the more I don't want to go there. It is nice to see the toilet works though. Thanks.
I like your personality ,never complaint and enjoy every thing .Great vídeo, enjoyable....
Have not been here since 1976 has changed so much from my memories
The "Angel Oak" on John's Island is a must see.
Cant wait for the Carpetbagger goes to Alaska event
The first building was the Ice Cream shop and they also tore down the big green Tshirt shop. They are currently working on the elevator for the Sombrero. They have a Facebook group and they keep it updated about the going ons of everything SOB
I read somewhere that some of their Hotel was torn down.
I really enjoy how you make simple attractions seem so worth while to explore!
I used to go to SOTB when I was a kid traveling with my family on our way to Disney. I'll be revisiting on March 5th and I can't wait to go back.
Your videos have been SO AWESOME lately, as always, REALLY enjoyed this one Jacob!!
Thanks Jacob!

Yes but you gotta add hot sauce 😋

@Markis B I don’t know if you can find it where you live but Old Bay hot sauce is great.

You should do a tour of Long Island plus go see the big duck
Great childhood memories with the fam will never be forgotten from out there ❤. Rest in peace daddy 🕊
The reptile lagoon actually looked pretty nice, thanks for sharing. 👍
I went up in the sombrero tower with my dad in the late 80's. I always consider South of the Border a must stop.
Wow.. you are a brave man. Staying at SOB.
my google phone just asked me about pedro flip flops watching this video lol
Have you driven on the Chesapeake bay bridge tunnel. Quite a unique ride leads to eastern shore of Mary Land Delaware.
