    $5,700 for a Transfer case replacement by Porsche on a 2011 Cayenne Turbo if anyone is wondering. Don't ask me how I know 😢

      They’re scamming you. You can get it rebuilt for $600 then installed in about two hours. Or get a used/aftermarket one for $700 then installed in 2-3 hours.

    We drained the transfer case fluid today it was dark black. Filled it up didn't run the car drain it again did that 2 time flushed it with a cheaper fluid. Then I put the RAVENOL transfer case fluid. When I drove it still has the jerking at 2nd and 3rd gear went on the freeway and after 5 miles it went away!!! Shift very smooth, thanks for the video. The dealer was trying to rip me off! By the way my 2013 cayenne has 149,000 mile

    Do not use a 1/2 torque wrench to tighten the plugs, they can be inaccurate at low torque values. Use 1/4 or 3/8 and torque at 15NM, someone on rennlist cracked their cases even with a low torque of 20NM.

    Thank you for the video, I needed to see this. I am having a harsh roaring sound once I get up to 35-40 MPH. I did have my car looked at this morning in which I was told that I had a bad transfer case, he didn't even bother to look at the oil and for that matter, he didn't look under my car. He simply said give me a call around two to order the part, in my mind he is going to do the same thing that you did in the video.

      Could also be the front diff. They are known to go on these and produce the symptoms you are describing.

    Do you fill until it drips out or fill exactly what you drain? Some seem to take 0.50L and others 0.87L
    Please advise

    • @thefadshow

      Until it spills out make sure vehicle is level.

    • @DVTech

      0.50L without offroad locking and 0.87L with offroad-lock is correct according to the Porsche documents. Until it spills out is correct for front and rear differential.

    Great video! I have the exact same problem with my 2011 958 and it's actually in the shop right now and diagnosed with a "slipping transfer case". How much fluid do you need to put into the transfer case to fill it properly?

      Transmission valve body probably. That is not a cheap fix, unfortunately, but perhaps a transmission flush might help first. Hopefully they can fix under warranty? My issues started on my 2004 Cayenne S that I bought used in 2008 and the transmission would "bang" into gear when downshifting from 5 to 4. Dealer charged me a total of around 6950 dollars to fix that as well as the cardan shaft so I think it's about a 5K USD fix at the dealership.

  • @bigj4663
    @bigj4663 ปีที่แล้ว

    Would you recommend using a cheaper brand to flush like Valvoline transfer case fluid and then after its clear filling it up with RAVENOL transfer case fluid. How many miles did you drive it before changing the fluids?

    • @thefadshow
      @thefadshow  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes that’s what I did I used cheap fluid until the end. I drove about 500 miles between.

      @@pawezawisza1244 it really does work. My mechanic flushed the old ones and forced out all the black oil then out a new transfer case oil. I drove it for 3 miles 2nd and 3 gear was smooth shifting. I will drive it for 500 miles then use the quality transfer case oil.

    What are you doing with the caliper ? taking measurements of how big the bolt is was my first guess but you kept "measuring" every time ?:)

    • @thefadshow
      @thefadshow  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I measured how far it was sticking out to put it back in same place. I torqued the new plug but sometimes I find if you just torque a re-used plug to spec it will leak.

    • @ikramfender
      @ikramfender 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thefadshow agreed this is because of the friction on the thread increasing torque value resulting the bolt not able to get the tension needed

    Brilliant! I have a 2004 Gen 1 Touareg with essentially the same symptoms. Vibration at about 40 MPH and general noise/harshness. The fluid did not look horrible coming out but I only drained about 300mL (!! :-( ) With one flush it drives WAY smoother. I'm going to drive ~100 miles or so and flush it again. Thanks for the video.

  • @therealsharps
    @therealsharps ปีที่แล้ว

    Removing the fill plug first is a myth. It only to let air in for the drain. Think about it. If you can’t get one out but have one out you’re still fucked.

    • @thefadshow
      @thefadshow  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      What if you can’t get fill plug out and still have fluid in the transfer case to drive the car around with until you sort it out?
