    This video helps me a lot. Thanks.
    I was able to drain all 500ml out from the drain plug alone. I just let it drip for over an hour. I still was able to get a little bit out from the fill plug but not much.
    I reused the both plugs. You can definitely fill all 500ml from the vent.

    very solid instructional video. On pipe thread fasteners be careful with over tightening--finger tight plus 1-2 turns. Different than bolt threads and danger of cracking female part of fastener. The first beep you were good.

      Thanks for your reply. The truth is that with these type of insert plugs, there was not much resistance or torque to apply. I never felt there was any resistance during tightening process. But your point is well taken. Porsche does specify a torque for these…

    • @price9195
      @price9195 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your reply proves the point. With pipe threads the torque feels different and the torque spec is perfunctory.

    Yesterday, I replaced the transfer case oil again, after a few months, and this time I used Motul DCTF (recommended for this application). Very solid performance so far….

    • @scottyu4361
      @scottyu4361 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      out of curiosity, why did you replace the oil? did you notice something wrong with the porsche oil?

    • @porscheDIY
      @porscheDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@scottyu4361 nothing wrong with Porsche oil. I just read some very good reviews somewhere in the Macan forum about using Motul DCTF in transfer case application. When I go to Motul website, that is their recommended oil for transfer case applications. Have driven about 15 to 20K miles with Motul with no issues. The whole drivetrain feels very solid.
      My warranty on transfer case is expired because my Macan is over 7 years old… But if were to have warranty left (7 years and unlimited mileage) then I would use Porsche oil.

    Couple question:
    1. Why not suck all the oil out from vent port instead of draining and sucking from 2 plugs?
    2. To prevent tightening the bolt, will that be better to -2 to 4 nm according to the manufacturer torque? So maybe 16 nm? Or you still think hand tighten plus few turns are better?

    • @porscheDIY
      @porscheDIY  22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@terry670519 Question 1: The transfer case has 2 chambers, one spill into the other. If you try to suck the oil from the fill port, you will get about 150ml of oil out, leaving about 350ml in the transfer case… and viceversa. This is why is important to drain first through drain plug and then suck remaining oil from fill port. Question 2: Torque is perfunctory with this type of plug. 16Nm this time will have a different effect as 16Nm next time if you are exceeding the elastic deformation limit of the material. What you state may work, only if you are not exceeding the elastic deformation of the material (drain hole). The recommended torque seems to exceed that elastic deformation into the plastic zone…

    If you filled pump with 500ml, some of the fluid got left in the hose and didnt make it all the way into the transfer case right?

    • @porscheDIY
      @porscheDIY  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@kiefbox4908 theoretically, when you fill the syringe at 500ml, the tubing is filled with oil. So the content of the tubing already accounts for that difference, hence you will be putting 500ml into the transfer case.

      This is the syringe I got, tubing included:
      a.co/d/iGCNXvy
      Then, got these tubing elbows for end of tubing. I inserted one end of the elbow into vent… the vent has to breath, hence the tubing can’t be press fit… you need to leave space for breathing… this elbow will fit perfectly….

      If you are going to do this, just be careful when reinstalling the plugs… you will not feel much resistance and is easy to continue torquing it and crack the transfer case, which is aluminum. Recommended torque is 20Nm, but you can install by hand and then a couple of turns with a wrench will do.

    Question: I just did my transfer case and was only able to take out 450ml of old fluid. I still inserted 500 back. Do you think I’ll have any issues if I over filled?
    And when I did mine I filled about 250ml through the inspection port and 250ml through the vent on top.
    I felt like I could have done more than 250ml through the inspection port, but since I saw you only did 125ml through yours I was worried I might mess something up.
    Why did you only fill 150ml through the inspection port? Did the fluid start dripping out? Just curious if you don’t mind me asking.
    Thanks again for these videos. They’ve help tremendously!

      If you look in the video minute 20:47, you’ll see that I removed approximately 460ml. I still put in 500ml. No issues. On your other question, it doesn’t matter. As a matter of fact, if you look at the video when I’m filling the oil, I post exact manual instructions and it says you should fill all 500ml from the vent. When you look at minute 5:29 in the video, you’ll see the internal diagram of the transfer case, and there is a baffle between the main chamber and the area where you need to suck oil out… is all shared space. The reason I didn’t want to go beyond 150ml through that port is because if it overfills, then you lose some of the 500ml oil that you need to put in…

      Motul changed its formulation for DCTF. So, I decided to use Redline MT-LV 70W/75W GL-4 for my last oil change (www.redlineoil.com/mt-lv-70w75w). This one is specified for my 2015 Macan S transfer case. Been using it for 6,000 miles now and it’s been great so far. I’m changing my TC fluid at the same time I change PDK fluid, every 20K miles.
      Viscosity Grade (SAE): 70W/75W

    What’s with all the programming stuff?? Drain it. Use a hand pump to get the dregs out of the filler hole. Refill it via the vent hole.
    Don’t overtighten the plugs. Get car level. New plugs aren’t needed.
    Every second oil change.

    • @porscheDIY
      @porscheDIY  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      First, thanks for watching and for your support!
      It is not programming. It is a procedure should be done after every oil change in the Transfer Case. It sets angle and reset wear integrator.
      Yes, plug should not be torqued as specified in the maintenance manual, as torque in the transfer case with these plugs is perfunctory. Hand tightening plus 2-3 turns with a wrench will be OK.
      I always used new plug for drain as it has the thread sealant, not necessary for filler. Yes, manual states fill 500ml through vent. Not sure what you mean by every second oil change. I change my TC fluid when I change my PDK transmission fluid every 20K miles.
      As I state in my disclaimer, this is what I do and should not be used as a guideline. It has worked very well for my 136,000 mile Macan so far, with no TC issues.

    • @MrNanah38
      @MrNanah38 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm confused too, why the need for all this programming?

    • @porscheDIY
      @porscheDIY  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@MrNanah38 I can’t tell you if you can skip this procedure or not. Better to ask a professional. What I can say is that I knew this procedure existed before doing my first oil change and that I needed to do it after the oil change. But, if I had to choose between changing the oil with no calibration procedure or not changing the oil (due to lack of OBS scanner)… I would rather change the oil and skip the calibration procedure if that was my only alternative. Protect the transfer case by changing oil.
