- It was our 4th time to Brasov...not because we like it, but because luck was never on our side every time we visit. The weather has been bad, and we always get sick here. This never happened in any other part of the country, and we have travelled all around Romania. Does Brasov ever get a sunny day? LOL.
But the day was finally here!!! BRASOV REDEMPTION (attempt #4!!!)

As romanian,i have to tell you that you have marked most popular touristic places.Well done.
Hello guys! I am very happy that you chose to visit my country and I hope you like it! There are several legends with the statue of the child on one of the towers of the Black Church, but the most famous would be that, when the church was built in 1383, one of the children of a worker who was working at the top of the church, slipped from the top and died and his father, being destroyed by pain, made him that statue! Another would be that a very skilled worker was pushed by another, out of envy, and died. Have a wonderful trip! :)

@@JetLagWarriors One version of the legend says that the child was pushed on purpose, as a sacrifice, with or without his father's approval. In old times rising a building needed a sacrifice, and in the Middle Ages the builders devised a less murderous method: they measured the shadow of a person and then they were burying a stone or a plank of that exact length in the foundation of the building. Check the ballad of Meșterul Manole, an old Romanian popular story that has this kind of sacrifice at the center of it.

I really like Brasov (spending my 90 days of tourist visa here) -- good coffee scene (NOLA, CH9, Tekafe, others), one excellent bakery (Simplu), excellent gelato (Royal and Gelato Mania), lovely if hard bike ride in the gravel to Poiana Brasov where the best (tm) langosi and kalacs is, at Capra Neagra, and proximity to superbe hikes, bears and all, in Bucegi, Zarnesti, and Moieciu de Jos to Amfiteatrul. And more...

That Hollywoodesque Brasov sign on the hill makes me think of Kuala Terengganu.We have the same set up here,no cable car though.And KT is pretty but Brasov is simply out-of-this-world gorgeous.
hello guys, well done. if you still in Brasov, and weather is still fine, try to visit Șapte Scări trail ( 7 stairs), you would love it. is close to bv, just outside the down, near DN1.
If you're there, guys, pls do not miss the most spectacular sight by taking a cabin trip to Caraiman Cross in Bucegi Mountains from Busteni (near Brasov). You won't regret, I'm telling u. But it needs to be in the morning so u'll have time to come back in time. And dress well.

I've been to Brasov many times since I was a child, as I live 70 kilometers away, but it never seemed more beautiful than in your video. It was a wonderful experience to see it through your eyes. Maybe when I am used to something, I do not see the real beauty anymore. Thank you for reminding me.

Hello guys! I was visiting Brasov at the beginning of October and I saw you in one morning walking trough the center streets. Keep going and have a wonderful trip ahead!

On April 21 1689, Brasov was devastated by a fire and after that, wooden houses were banned and it took a century to fully rebuild the city. So that's where the Black Church name comes from.
There is also a fortress on a hill , on the right side of the view from the Brasov sign, but it's closed atm. Search for Cetatuia De Straja.
You should spend Orthodox Easter in the central square of a RO city (assuming there is an Orthodox church there) and see the taking the light ceremony. And in Brasov the Sunday after Easter there is the Junii Brasovului.

Well it was about time! Happy you finally had a good time there! I have to say, tripe ciorba is one of my favorite dishes and seeing that breaded tripe made me really curious. I never had it that way. It looks and promises to be really good!
Watching your videos guys make miss Romania so much, been there summer of 2019 and will come back to that gorgeous city of Brasov this Christmas season. Everything about Romania is beautiful including its welcoming people. Nice video love it.

Steve, I don't know if this is helpful, but a cathedral is a church where a bishop has his "cathedra" (throne) inside it. It doesn't just mean a large old church.
Usually there is only one cathedral in a diocese (the larger area that a bishop governs) and the Black Church in Braşov was never the church where a (Catholic) bishop presided. Braşov is actually in the (Catholic) Archdiocese of Alba Iulia, whose cathedral is St Michael's, which you showed us when you were there in Alba Iulia quite recently.
When you were in Kotor in Montenegro you had your late lunch/dinner in the square just outside the Catholic cathedral there, the Cathedral of St Tryphon, where the bishop of Kotor, Bishop Ivan (who spent years in priestly ministry in Ontario), has his bishop's throne. Thrones aren't what they used to be and many now look pretty ordinary.

If you're in Brasov still, you must no leave without eating at CEAUN(Cauldron in English). It won't disappoint at all. It's actually in the main square and you walked by it. Try bean soup in bread, pork meat pork, etc. The food is great. Cheers, enjoy the vacation!

The legend goes that the team that built the church included an extremely talented journeyman. After finishing the roof, out of jealousy, the master asked the journeyman to check something on the ground and pushed the poor guy to his death.

Beginning in early 60' I visited Brasov at least every 2 years and the church was very dark up to I believe early 90's when I remember it had a fence around it and I think that during a renovation, they pressure washed it!!!! Brasov , like many towns in middle ages were built of wood and they had many major fires ! One of them engulfed this church and specialty wood buildings around it that smoked everything.
Guys, the Black Church is not neo-gothic, but pure original gothic style and its the largest GOTHIC church between Vienna and Istanbul. You picked some things from the air, but I guess you mixed those pieces of information :)

You should of visit Black Church inside. It has a great design and orga and full yearly descriptions for events. I know very well, but not enough, Brașov, and is really enjoying to see on tv this kind of vlogs, considering that you are so good presentors. Hey folks, the largest church in Romania is in Bucharest, Catedrala Mantuirii Neamului (People's Salvation Cathedral). It is the tallest and largest Eastern Orthodox church building by volume, and area, in the world. The People's Salvation Cathedral will have the largest collection of church mosaics in the world (interior decoration) when it is completed, having about 18,000 square meters, including the mosaic of the altar is about 3,000 square meters. The mosaic of the National Cathedral contains glass made in Venice and Florence, as well as Carrara stone. Also the People's Salvation Cathedral has the world's largest Orthodox iconostasis (23.8 meters length and 17.1 meters height) and the world's largest free-swinging church bell. You should visit it and also the jewish CORAL TEMPLE.
Also the jewish theatre, that after the rise of Communism in Romania, the IKUF theater was nationalized August 1, 1948 as the State Jewish Theater (Teatrul Evreiesc de Stat, TES). This made it the first state-operated Yiddish theater in the world; a second Romanian State Jewish Theater was established in Iaşi in 1949, but went out of existence in 1964.
Finally you managed to visit a part of Brasov. Next time, when you would come to , probably the most beautiful city in the world, try to visit the New Lake, the zoo, the Postavarul peak.....
Guys you must try the sweets from cake shop and ask to give you the cakes that Romanians are making at home for birthdays !!
Nearby you have Medas, Blaj, Targu Mures.
We got most beautiful places with with beautiful views in the Mountains espcialy Retezat Mountains at lake Bucura. Only 2 hours of hiking from Poiana Pelegii. I recomand it with all mai heart.

Guys, I feel you missed something: the nice Romanian cakes from Romanian "Cofetarie" which isn't Patisserie style but fine cakes that go marvellously with a cup of coffee. I'm not from Brasov but the Western part of the country nearby Timisoara. Anyone from Brasov here who can recommend a nice Cofetarie?

The so-called Tartaria Tablets are three artifacts recovered in 1961 from a Neolithic site in Tartaria, Romania. Since their discovery, the three enigmatic tablets have created confusion and excitement among archaeologists.
Why? According to many authors and scholars, these enigmatic tablets are evidence of the OLDEST writing on the planet, even predating the ancient Sumerian writing.
The Tartaria tablets bear symbols of the Neolithic Vinča culture. The Vinča culture occupied a region of Southeastern Europe (i.e. the Balkans) corresponding mainly to modern-day Serbia, but also parts of Romania, Bulgaria, Bosnia, Montenegro, Macedonia, and parts of Greece.
Experts claim that the symbols depicted on the Tartaria tablets represent the earliest form of writing. Archaeologists argue that the tablets originated as far back as 5,500 BC.
This is beyond fascinating because it would mean that contrary to what mainstream scholars suggest, the ancient Sumerians may NOT have been the first people to invent the earliest form of writing-which by the way is said to have appeared around 3,500 BC.
Scientists argue that the Tartaria tablets are evidence of a writing system that predates the one in Ancient Sumer by at least some 2,000 years. They have dubbed it as the Old European Scrip or the Danube Script.
The tablets were discovered in 1961 when archaeologists Nicolae Vlassa excavated the three clay tablets. Their contents are highly controversial yet extremely meaningful.

In April 1689, a devastating blaze destroyed significant parts of the town, and also damaged the parish church to a high extent. Its gigantic roofing caught fire and collapsed, burying the interior under a heavy blanket of rubble and ash. Legend says that the flames and smoke turned its walls so black, that the colloquial name of the Church became The Black Church.
The great fire of April 21, 1689 caused Brasov to lose the title of the richest city between Constantinople and Vienna. Since then, Saint Mary's Church is called the Black Church.
332 years ago, on April 21, 1689, Braşov was on fire. The richest city between Vienna and Constantinople, as a source of the time said, i.e. from southeastern Europe, was burning to the ground and would lose this status from then on.
Historian Nicolae Pepene says that all indications lead to a fire caused, most likely, by Austrian troops, which were not well received by the people of Brasov.
A year before, a treaty had been signed in Făgăraş by which the Braşov citadel had to house an Austrian garrison. However, the locals did not agree with this and revolted.

Maybe because of the fire.But primary,because the romanian people are ortodox.Not catolic,not gotic.I think in a country full of myths and legends,is normal for the ortodox peoples and there priest,to eliminate other belives or cults.
the renovation was done in 1999 i think.When i was 10 years old,the renovation started,and i was born in 85.I remember,i was counting the scaffolding floors,and was 20.Maybe 1999,was done.
