Ray tracing really shines with games like minecraft (where they only made it available with bedrock edition . . .) where the maps can be changed massively. In games like warthunder where light sources are pre-placed, it only really makes a difference with things like reflections and semi-opaque materials like glass.
@@sheeplord4976it’s because Minecraft is actual Ray tracing, this only seems to do shadows and reflections, it doesn’t actually bounce light rays everywhere by the looks of it
Its not like you can get an advantage on every other map by just cranking the graphics to the minimum 😭 If anything i'll scare myself like a cat in the mirror more than i'd use it to see around corners (not like 3rd person is a thing too)
it's honestly kind of a testament to how good the default, non RT lighting is. Of course, the RT implementation could be done better and look a fair bit nicer, but even still the default looks great.
It's the case with most games with RT. Developers have been so good at mimicking light for so long that RT usually only improves some shadows and reflections on most games with RT. And some games they over do the reflections and everything is overly shiny and actually less realistic.
I hope they add to the RWR ui to actually show the neat features of the SPO15, like the altitude of the lock. Would make it a lot more useful in non-sim modes
@@sharcc2511 yeah it does, matawg made a whole video about the new cockpit rwrs, the spo15 shows how far missile is and if its from top or bottom in the cockpit

That's just because War Thunder's lighting is static and the devs have put hundreds of thousands of hours into making it as gorgeous as possible. The only thing ray tracing really improves are real time shadows and reflections, things that would massively tank performance if everyone had to deal with them lol.
Im curious if the ray tracing and path tracing algorithms could be used to better simulate radar and thermals, because infrared and radio waves are pretty much light just on different parts of the spectrum
That sounds like it could be cool technology to simulate if everyone was on the same hardware or if Gaijin did it in house on their servers but it's probably too early in RT's lifespan for that.
Forget about lighting on the map, tanks, and objects. If they just put RT on smoke and particle effects the game would look SO much better. Currently smoke is not effected by any light source and both smoke and clouds have no lighting effect on objects inside of them. It's why you're plane glows like all hell when flying through dense clouds and it just looks weird. If they could improve those 2 areas without RT that would be great but ik RT just makes it easier as a developer. The rest of the game looks great already, just the smoke and particles🙏
Those window reflections are a big yikes. Imagine you're driving down a street, and on your left is a building obscuring your vision. Further down the street, there is also a shop with a glass front to it. Just on the corner of the building on the left is an enemy hiding, waiting to ambush you when you drive past. You can't see him due to the building he's using as cover. But, with RT enabled, you can look at the shop down the street, and see his tank reflected in it. This is a direct gameplay advantage given to people with better computers; kind of like how CS2 on launch had a big issue with higher quality shadow settings letting you see enemies early due to the shadow of the players being visible.
Or you can turn on the old GPU mode and spot tanks much easier in most scenarios. RT might give you some advantage with reflections but it will also make spotting tanks in shadows harder.
What about a rework of that ugly crippled mushroom cloud "nuke" its 2024 and that thing still looks like it's out of a 2001 game mixed with Minecraft 😅
Better reflections and shadows. Zen didn’t show what it would look like in rain or night conditions which is where I think RT shines the best. But this tech still has a long way to go and I hope to see how much it improves in the future compared to now
whatever this is, it seems like a tacked on application of rt. the only games where i saw rt do anything were cyberpunk on overdrive and metro's rt only remaster.
It's actually a high effort implementation of actual fully fledged RT, you just notice it less than other games because the environnements don't put it forwards as much
Ever since the dev server opened again it keeps hanging my video drivers and lowering texture quality and turning off RT, and my games hard crashed twice, and I haven't even done a match yet. It was fine on the first dev.
People are joking about "a tiny improvement for 80% of your performance" but for newer GPUs that utilize a lot more RT cores it's not that much more work. More importantly, the difference is quite significant in low-light enviroments. I'm very happy my RTX 4090 will now be able to fully utilize its power with War Thunder.
Side-by-side is a terrible way to showcase a before and after because you’re not seeing the same exact thing. Screenshots of before and after, switching between pictures with no transitions is the best way to show before and after as it’s easy to see what it’s being removed/added on the exact same place.
Ray tracing is cool and all but it seems like it will be a while before it will be widely used by gamers. In every case I've seen it's such a small difference for such a big jump in computer requirements and usage.
It is ultra mega super laggy, also I was very excited about fsr 3.1 until I tested it on the dev server, It is the worst AA implementation I ever seen, it makes me feel like Im blind, because of the blurrynes.
A little advantage is that you can use those super reflective mirrors to see what's behind the corner without actually trying to peak your camera to the edge of the wall, but you have to pay a hefty amount of performance to do so... Basically like, you (the player) get view advantage, I (Gaijin) get 90% of your PC performance... TBH, it's not worth it, even if I am using a 4090
