  • A very rare KR Wilson Lifter Tool Set for the 239, 256, 272, 292, and the 312 Ford Y Block is displayed, discussed and demonstrated for a few minutes. Take a look at this very unique tool that allowed mechanics to remove and install the lifters in the block without removing the engine from the car.

I built one with my dad when I was 18 years old, 272 bored to a 292. I ported and polished the heads with the assistance of my dad talking me through it, it was gruelling but learned a lot. But anyway after we got it running it would turn so many RPMS so quickly it would blow the distributor bushings out. I eventually sold the old 56 Ford Fairlane lane and I'm 52 now and kicking myself for it.

That a neat tool! Almost like the game "operation". I bet the rearmost 4 are a real bear!

That too is awesome! This would have to be a dreaded job.

You can also flip it upsidedown on the stand and just put the clips on from underneath. 🙃

The one time I had to replace the cam and lifters in a Y block in the car I made a tool out of a piece of wire. I put two 90 deg. bends in one end and soldered on two more pieces of bent wire so that I had a three fingered tool to snake the lifters up past the crank and rods. Of course I had the pan off but I think my farm boy method worked better than this K. R. Wilson gadget!

The main reason it's called a 'Why Block'.

I did a complete swap while a Y Block was in the car… it can be done. Check my playlist for the video
