First Impression Gong Sirus XXL 156cm with Pumpfoiling

- Session 72 I am trying the Gong Sirus XXL with 156cm the first time at a new dock near my home and capture my first expressions.
Join me on the way to learn how to pumpfoil. Looking for a new sport challenge and a fascinating hobby that can be practiced even on days without wind, I bought a foil, watched enough inspiring videos and am now trying to learn the art of gliding over the water through muscle strength, coordination and balance. Maybe you are already further, started like me also as a bloody beginner or are playing with the idea to learn it, welcome to on board.

Would you be curious to compare your Sirus XXL to the upcoming Curve-H 5XL and Fluid-H 3XL which both seem to be of similar size (165cm and 152cm)/ similar range?
Not owning a Sirus and playing with the idea of maybe getting a large, high aspect pumping wing, the Curve 5XL-H seems like a good choice, and also the Fluid 3XL-H
...just asking, because those series seemed to be your choices before flying the Sirus 2XL
I would love to compare all of them and am really curious too, if that isn’t too big. But since I am neither rich nor an ambassador, I won’t be able to buy all those front wings and in Switzerland there are not so many people riding Gong, so I have to see, when I will get the chance to do that.
I understand. Well in this case, I guess we'll have to wait for you to get quite rich soon 🤞😅

Ich finde krass wie wenig informationen es zu diesem flügel gibt zum flat water pumpen nicht mal von gong selbst gibt es videos... nur aneinander gereihte 2 sec schnippsel ja toll... Gut das du ein Video dazu machst. Ich habe mir auch den sirus 156 bestellt er ist heute angekommen und ich habe direkt mal eine 3 std session gemacht :)
Vll möchte ja jemand meine erfahrungen hören:
Das setup war das normale v2 curve xlt complete set aber jetzt halt mit sirus als front flügel. Ich kann bei mir nur einen dead start machen was aber mit übung möglich ist. Der 65 alu mast fühlt sich schon etwas wabbelig an was die ersten versuche echt ungewohnt war wenn ich jedoch genau im gleich gewicht war war es weniger schlimm (wurde sehr oft abgeworfen). Ich hatte das gefühl ich muss noch genauer beim start den körperschwerpunkt über der boardmitte halten weil dieser flügel so viel weniger roll zulässt als der curve xlt also ist es schwer zu korrigieren wenn du zu einer seite fällst dann fällst du runter. Ich war die ganze session sehr vorsichtig in den kurven nur ganz leicht eingeleitet und dann schön großen radius gefahren. Das Gleiten hat mich aber direkt begeistert und langsam ist der flügel auch nicht. Einmal hoch auf den Mast gepumpt konnte ich ein paar sekunden pause machen und dann wieder hoch pumpen so habe ich mir das vorgestellt und das mit dem roll war auch klar also ich bin zu frieden!!! Mit etwas Rückenwind bin ich heute so 400m gerade aus gefahren ich wiege 80kg und glaube da ist noch sehr viel mehr drinn träume von 10min :)
Danke für deinen ausführlichen Bericht. Mir erging es ähnlich. Nur kam ich weniger klar mit dem Roll, den du beschrieben hast, ich habe konstant den Turn eingeleitet :D
Ich tracke immer meine Sessions und war auch erstaunt über die Geschwindigkeit. Werde dazu später wahrscheinlich noch ein Video machen.
Ich war auch mega erstaunt über das Gleiten. Nach meiner Ansicht hat Gong hier wirklich den ersten Flügel fürs Pumpfoilen gebaut und das merkt man auch!
Und träume auch von 5-10 Minuten, aber bis dahin brauche ich wohl noch ein bisschen!
Sehr interessant, bin Pumpfoil Einsteiger und winge mit dem Curve Xlt und seit neuem mit dem Fluid Xlt, alles auf 80er oder 90er v1 Mast ohne Probleme wie ich finde.
Habt ihr den sirus auch mit Wing ausprobiert, benötigt man wirklich das teure Carbonmaterial? Bin auf eure Erfahrungen sehr gespannt, klasse Videos !
@@simonbecher4496 will ich in den nächsten Wochen im direkten Vergleich herausfinden. Erstmal musste ich mich noch an den Sirus gewöhnen, damit es fair ist.
Ich habe schon das Gefühl, dass die Belastung zumindest aufs Board beim Sirus höher ist als beim Fluid oder Curve. Mal schauen, was der direkte Vergleich ergibt.
Super danke für die erste Einschätzung, hast du die Möglichkeit das gong direkt mit z.b. sab von einem kumpel zu vergleichen? Wäre natürlich meha interessant... Bin eigentlich schon gong fan, viele behaupten dennoch, dass die richtigen marken besser funktionieren indiana, sab, axis, Starboard. Mein Kumpel (starboard teamfahrer), findet meine foils nicht schlecht aber auch nicht gut 😂
gute Frage, also Ende Juni kann ich vielleicht von Axis und Indiana etwas probieren. Sab Fahrer wüsste ich im Moment keinen. Also für mich ist der Sirus mega ein Entwicklungsschritt nach vorne von Gong. Mein Bauchgefühl ist, dass der Sirus mithalten kann. Insgesamt hat Gong jetzt auch starke Veränderungen beim Curve und Fluid eingeführt. Aber um das genau zu sagen, müsste ich einen direkten Vergleich machen. Immerhin ist Malo Guénole als Gongfahrer Weltmeister geworden, deshalb glaube ich nicht, dass ihr neues Material schlecht sein kann.
Es kommen noch zwei Videos von mir zum Sirus, aber bei der dritten Session konnte ich länger pumpen als ein Kollege auf dem 1310 von Axis.

Sehr interessant, glaube auch, dass Gong einen guten Weg einschlägt. Fährst du den carbonmast? Braucht man zum sirus frontwing einen separaten sirus backwing oder ist der gut mit dem Fluid Stab fahrbar? Übe weiter mit meinem Gong Xlt, aber früh oder später Brauch ich denk ein anderes System
@@simonbecher4496 also ich war bis jetzt nur mit dem Alumast unterwegs, aber habe mir mit dem Sirus den Carbon High Modulus geholt und mein Gefühl ist, dass braucht man auch bei 156cm Spannweite. Aber ich werde den Sirus mal mit meinem 85er Alumast ausprobieren und vielleicht geht der ja auch.
Mir wurde der Fluid H47 empfohlen für den Sirus. Hatte davor nur einen X-Over und Curve Backstab. Werde ich aber auch noch mal alles quer testen. Dann kann ich mehr sagen. Ich denke, dass der normale Fluid Stab auch gehen sollte.

Hello! I was considering a Cruzader board 6,6 maybe and a Curve or Fluid front wing. (Xl?) Do you think that a Curve XL or Fluid XL would do? I’m 78kg. My plan is to Sup, surf and wing with it with low wind conditions. I’m not sure if the foil size would fit my needs. Any tips?
Depends greatly on your skill level, your frustration tolerance and your weight. Do you want to do a SUP Flatwaterstart? I don`t think XL will be big enough for that.
I would probably prefer the Curve XLT. I my preference the Fluid stalls a bit too quickly in low speed. Did you think of a Sirus yet? It might be much better suited for low wind conditions.

I’ve been considering a Sirius, but I have aluminium masts and Alu fuselage. Gong says I can only go upto 110cm wingspan max with Alu mast. After that the risk of breaking gear is expected almost.
So I thought that a curve XLT, or maybe even XXL or XXL fluid could do the jobb?
If not I would need to buy the carbon mast and fuselage and the wing, etc, 😂
My frustration tolerance is high. I’ve been learning Snowkiting, kitesurfing and kitefoil & wingfoil by myself 🙈
@@knutSchevik I guess in the long run, you will be happiest with the Sirus and the high modulus mast.
Depends also a bit on what discipline you want to do the most or is the most important for you.
By the way, are you considering the new version (v3) of the curve and or the old (v2)? They differ quite in the sizes. Gong made quite some changes in the sizes itself.
@@FoilingPastor I was considering the old V2 XXL. (But apparently sold out now?) so then the fluid XXL but might be not big enough.
So the other option is aluminium pro fuselage and the new Curve with a pro stab fluid 47cm perhaps.
I’m not sure if I want to invest on the new carbon mast because I need to pay 25% tax and toll and shipping to Norway. It’s cheaper for me to travel to France and get it 😅
@@knutSchevik Maybe a trip to France wouldn’t be such a bad option then after all 😉 Since I live in Switzerland, I know how annoying it is with custom and high shipping rates. That’s why I always try to wait for some more orders and then try to do several orders in one to save costs.
The Curve XXL is sold out since a long time already. I can’t say too much to the Fluid XXL, but the Fluid XXLT wasn’t my favourite for pumping so far.
The Fluid h-47 is really great, but maybe the Sirus Stab might be even better for low end foiling. I saw that Gong riders also use the Sirus for going winning below 10 knots which would open up many more opportunities!
Denkst du der Flügel ist auch für Anfänger gut? Oder macht es mehr Sinn auf einem Flügel mit einem niedrigeren AR zu lernen und dann später erst auf einen so breiten Flügel zu wechseln?
Gute Frage. Also ich würde dir empfehlen auf einem niedrigeren AR zu lernen aus zwei Gründen:
1) Wenn du kein perfektes Dock hast, was relativ selten ist, musst du mit dem jumpstart anfangen. Der ist deutlich schwieriger als der Dockstart
2) Selbst nach zwei Jahren Pumpfoiling, habe ich auch bei der dritten bis vierten Session mit dem Sirus noch einige Fehlstarts.
Wenn man Geld sparen will, bereit ist mehr Zeit zum Lernen zu brauchen und viel Frustation aushalten kann, kann sicherlich auch sofort mit dem Sirus anfangen. Aber der leichteste Weg ist das sicherlich nicht. Ich würde dir den Curve XLT empfehlen, der kostet zur Zeit nur 255 Euro.
