    365 days I crewed on sailboats from San Diego, USA all the way down to Panama, stopping in Mexico and Costa Rica. After Panama crossing the Pacific Ocean to New Zealand stopping at islands like the Marquesas Islands, French Polynesia, Tonga and Fiji
    45 days I traveled through New Zealand from the Northernmost point to the Southernmost point, then
    100 days I traveled by motorbike through Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, then
    365 days I traveled in my self-built campervan from Kyrgyzstan to Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, then
    365 days I traveled with this van through Iran and Pakistan, then
    180 days I built an off-grid log cabin in the woods in Spain, then
    180 days I restored an old sailboat in Guatemala, then
    180 days I traveled with this sailboat from Guatemala to Honduras, Cuba, Jamaica, Bahamas, Turks and Caicos and the Dominican Republic
    Currently I am #logcabinbuild while #logcabin doing #buildingalogcabin

    Nice work! And definitely a challenge on your own. I have found the cordwood shrinks in time and separate from the mortar and in time you can push them right through. You can secure them really easily in the building stage by driving short nails half way in along the length of the log. Put in several nails on all sides of a log ,sticking out 2 or 3 cm and they will grab the mortar...forever!

    • @tsaicio
      @tsaicio 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is much simpler way. Put into the mortar any kind of fiber and it will not crack of it was properly mixed.

    Just a suggestion: Wet the base concrete first and try to find an adhesive bridge between the log and the mix you're doing, may be try some different mix, pure cement or cement and lime on just the very thin surface of the log, that will make a much better union between the log and the other mixture you are using. (also wet the log, a little bit to avoit the wood extract water from the mix).

Or still in limbo? always I would love to know in exact detail on how you made your mortar mix for foundation, like mix ratio, and product being used. That worked for you. • @aurochf1
      @aurochf1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HuubVlogs I figured that it may be easier not to add the insulation and the wall would be sturdier as they will have to sustain part of the weight of the cabin. I am no expert, though. I am liking more and more how it looks, including the bottles.

    • @gazza2963
      @gazza2963 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@aurochf1 have built several CW buildings, the insulation is a thermal break. It takes alot for heat and cold to travel through the wood, but not through the lime. giving it a thermal break will make the inside more comfortable. obviously this only works if all thermal bridging is do in the construction

    • @aurochf1
      @aurochf1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@gazza2963 I am sure you are right. My comment (not a concern, as the thermal break won't hurt) is because Valencia region is an area of warm climate and a wall that is 40cm thick may suffice. But, on second thought, It may also help with the heat!

    • @saticharlie
      @saticharlie 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, if the wood is dry and protected from the rain (in cordwood construction we say a cordwood house need a good umbrella and waterboots) so with a good overhang and a good stone foundation, cordwood can last forever. There is a problem if you uses hardwood like maple, if they are very dry when you build, then they take water and move a lot. But softwood like cedar or pine wont change volume. If they are debark and dry and that your mortar is made of lime putty OR contain wet saw dust (so the wood dont suck all the moisture to fast), the mortar will cure slowly and become very hard but still plastic, and the log will breath. Check out «Rob Roy» books about cordwood construction. In new england or Quebec, you can still found old barn, 150 years old, made with cordwood.
