    3 thing's Jimi is most under rated at... 1. His rhythm playing. 2. His emotional vocals. 3. His song writing. He was the best. PERIOD.

    These Hendrix videos are making me reflect on what I learned from Jimi Henrix. 1. I'll never come close to the talent of Jimi. 2. How to strive for freely shifting from rhythm to lead :D The second lesson is far more inspiring.

    • @jimix8575
      @jimix8575 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      "How to strive for freely shifting from rythm to lead" You are right and it is very difficult to get close to that. Almost impossible. I reccomend you to use mute notes and learn the original versions and not imitations. You have to learn a lot of Hendrix songs to understand how to do that. Also play scale patterns instead of modern cencepts such as scales, arpegios...etc In fact it is possible to make an hybrid method but you would have to avoid many things to get close to Jimi.

  • @budgetguitarist
    @budgetguitarist 9 ปีที่แล้ว +25

    Joe can play any style well. He's just crazy talented. Not to be a wet blanket or anything, but that guitar and that pickup and that amp don't do the Jimi strat sound well. At all. Agree with Andrelix67 - turning down the gain a bit would have helped. Joe likely has an endorsement where he doesn't play other brands in videos so I totally get it. But this video is an extremely effective demo of the wrong guitar and amp combination for the style.

    • @ChrisWoodwardMusician
      @ChrisWoodwardMusician 9 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      He is using the CAGED system. His first chord, E Maj, he's using E Maj Pentatonic. His second chord, C Major, he's using an F shape at the 8th fret and playing off of that. When he plays A Maj, he uses A Major Pentatonic.

If you don’t know your s*** about music, you can still appreciate it, but you’ll be never be able to learn what JS is trying to teach you. I love the double stops. Way too much distortion. Not necessary. Try playing clean. I think you will like it. Your technique is good enough. Enjoy hearing all your nuances. Many players use so many effects, I can not tell who is playing. Clean players are easier to identify. It is also because of their choice of note selection. Ex. Eric Johnson note selection, though he uses a lot of effects.

      Joshua Hunt I love Satriani, Paul Gilbert, Buckethead and they are really nice but there is not much difference between them as Paul Gilbert and Buckethead learned a lot from Satriani. I'm sure that if you would listen a song of each guitar player which you haven't heard before and played with the same guitar, it would be hard for you to tell who is every artist. Because their technique is quite similar. However, I recognized instantly some Hendrix instrumental songs from the album 'West Coast Seattle boy' and I just bought it as soon as I could.

    • @jimix8575
      @jimix8575 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to know many details to play in the style of Jimi Hendrix. For exemple, some peculiar thing is the use of octaves and another thing which many guitar players ignore is the use of mute notes which makes a big difference. And do not use superstrato to avoid the high gain and too much sustain.

While I guess it's nice to set a high bar for yourself, watching this it's occurred to me that the bar should still be low enough to see, LOL Satch makes this look sooooooo easy (but there's a reason why he was the best teacher in the Bay area and at least three of his students went on to become major rock stars in their own right)...maybe I'll stick to my death metal power chords....

    Yeah Joe but the tone and efx chain for showing us the hendrix style is horrible. To much gain, low compression, to much delay and bad eq. Not enough highs and to muchs mid. Horrible sound and tone.

    i noticed something totally unheard of on youtube, where are all the assholes and their negative comments, how refreshing, at least for once, that negativity is not here, besides, playing the guitar is the greatest gift you can give yourself, and people like satch just make me wanna play more; thank you so much joe, total inspiration.

      Learning to play an instrument is an incredible gift a parent can give a child. Or a friend can give to someone who does not play. It is an entrance to a whole world. It is a wonderful thing.

    Could he go into his closet or pull out from under his bed a 50's or 60's period Stratocaster? for these Hendrix videos? The tone is very important. Ibanez is great. I have a few. IMHO. Thanks

    I'm glad he and Hager buddied up and ever so glad that EVH shit on Michael Anthony. I just want to see chicken foot with a great seat one time before I die. I live in small city area. We don't get bands like that in the rust belt. Can't sell tickets in the secondary market. Not enough people know who they are.

    Can anyone tell me how to get this kind of tone? I know this isn't the classic Jimi strat tone, but still, I like it in itself. Just the basics of what sort of pedals/amps, gain etc, in software (e.g. Garageband) or hardware.

    allthough Joe is a really nice guy and can come up with something interesting to listen to
    with emotion and melody , he is to clean an perfect , and that is not good for emotion .
    it simply is too polished and “perfect” if you’d ask me .
    i have heard Vai do Little wing and it simply not close to the dept and sincerety of Hendrix

    I think jimi used double stops and the like to recreate the horn sections he heard in songs,i think later on he was a bit frustrated by his limited knowledge of music theory and it shows in songs like dolly dagger which was not a smooth song theory wise when it transitions from part to part, at the time when asked about jimi, Larry Coryell jazz snob condescendingly said "well jimi sure can shake them strings"...weak
