This makes me happy! As a Salvadoran you guys ate them correctly. ❤️ The cortido is correct and it’s usually spicy or mild depending on how some people make it. I happy you guys enjoyed it! 🥰 Makes me so happy seeing you guys enjoy my favorite childhood food.!!!

Yay! You guys ate pupusas! I'm Guatemalan but we eat pupusas a lot too! And it's just Salvadorian food without the El 🙂
The dough or "masa" is what they use to make traditional tortillas. If you go to a Guatemalan or Salvadorian restaurant and get a plate with a side of tortillas, they will be thick like the pupusas without the fillings. A good pupusa is hard to find. They should be well filled and as close to the edges as possible so there's a good filling to tortilla ratio.
Thanks for sharing your new experience with us! How exciting! 😁💕

Salty in Spanish is called: “Salado”
Omg pupusas are one of my favorite foods 😋 and the curtido is delicious too with the salsa. I like how your kids aren’t picky with food they eat and try anything which is awesome. Must I add that Jordan is growing so much he doesn’t have that baby face anymore. Oh fyi crunch dad the reason why it taste like tamale 🫔 and corn tortilla is because the corn flour to make them is the same as for the pupusas 🫓 it’s call MASECA it’s at your local grocery store I’m sure or Mexican store. MASECA corn mix is used for tamales, corn tortillas, Gorditas, sopes

So, my husband is Salvadoran* you ate them correctly; however, you want those flavors mixed, also known as revueltas (re vwell tas). This means a mix of beans and pork or beans pork and cheese or beans and cheese. Getting them one flavor at a time is not recommended as the masa (CD called dough lol) is dry because it’s corn. Next time try the beans with one of the other flavors! Lastly, the curtido is more like sauerkraut, and can be eaten just as they did, but the green in the cheese was NOT jalapeño, it’s called loroco (close to capers) to add flavor to the cheese. Loved seeing my husbands small country and amazing food represented. Try Yuka with chicharon next time :)

There's a variety of Spanish dishes. I've tried El Salvador, Peru, Spain, PR, DR, and Mexican as well as other cultures. It's all good. Not in competition with any cultures. Some may have the taste buds for it and some don't. It's not about being in recognition and then station that one culture only has a taste and others don't. Let's not not Mexican culture because you did stated that in your comment. Just say thank you for trying our culture and absolutely appreciate it

It’s easy to make! Use masa with water (masa is corn flour)
You just mix the masa looks like flour with water mix with hands until it gets thick. You don’t want it to be watery, you want it to be able to form a shape and stay that way.
It can get sticky like slime which means you need to add more masa. I do wet the tips of my fingers with water or some people use oil to prevent it getting stuck all over my hands.
Then I roll it in a ball I use my hand to smush it and it becomes a flat circle
Then you put what you want inside (if it’s meat you cook it before putting it in your pupusas) and grab the edges and close it up and roll it again into a ball and flatten it. Then I just use oil in a pan and flip flip like a pancake until golden brown.
So fun to make! I love the bean ones with sour cream. So good.
    And guacamole!
