    - brings up his concerns directly but sensitively, acknowledging her boundaries
    - notices her behaviour is out of character and acknowledges that too
    - Clearly states the traits he values in her
    - Doesn't react defensively when she bats him away
    - Reminds her that her current mood is temporary and things will improve for her
Some good tips here for how to discuss a loved one's mental health if you have concerns about them!

The problem with this scene and many others in The Crown is that only 2 people were involved in the conversation-we have no idea if it actually took place, let alone the exact wording. It's a common technique in films and the viewers often vicariously assign legitimacy to the event.

Back when television showed real sporting events and not just physical games I saw lengthy films of Princess Anne in competition at the Kiev Horse trials. She is fearless and tireless in the face of astronomical jumps, speed and endurance. She deserved every bit of the support and confidence her father gave her. Had he done the same with her brothers it might have helped them to build their self-confidence and courage. But they were not born with her intestinal fortitude and what they did have was abused out of them early on at their boarding schools such as Gordonstoun. I admire Anne. Ingmar De Vos is the current FEI President- has been since 2014. Anne was FEI President from1986-1994. Her father was President from 1964-1986. You are correct about the Olympics and HRH not remembering much of her ride.
Anne represented Britain at the 1976 Olympics in The Sport of Eventing. She indeed had a bad fall during the cross-country phase and was concussed. In those days you were allowed to remount and finish. Nowadays that isn't allowed but back then there wasn't the understanding of the dangers of brain injury that we have today. In fact, many people never wore a helmet for regular riding (I grew up in England and got my horse training there).
