@@austingill2739 dude...anyone can row for 25 minutes. The pace is what makes the difference. Training as a profesional rower in the winter gets you to 50-60 minutes of non stop rowing but at a pace of 1:44-1:50.
I trained for 4 years to go from 6:54 to 6:14. I don't know if this guys row boats aswell, but the performance is extraordinary. My 6:14 was enough to get me in the Romanian junior 8. Good old memories.

@@lmc4964 because most of these rowers train in boats on the water as well as on the indoor rowing machine, there’s very little real bulking. they keep a relatively consistent body weight and try to get the best weight:power ratio possible. In most countries when you can’t get on the water and race, you get on the erg and get fit
Weight training is absolutely crucial! For the lower body you want to focus on squats, deadlifts, leg press, and then supplement that with maybe some plyometric exercises. For the upper body you’ll want to do pull-ups, LOTS of rows with barbells/dumbbell/cables, bench pulls are an old fashioned staple, and bench press. You can incorporate overhead press, bicep curls, and some triceps extensions as well. And because there are a myriad of core exercises, you can mix them up BUT rollouts and planks are essential. Hope that helps! If you’re wondering, I used to row and that is what was on the lifting “schedule” for the team.

Covid messed things up a bit. have to say its tricky lining everything up. lots of zone 2 and 3 cardio and being an intermediate lifter is a good start. I'm taking a little break from the concept2 at the moment but I am doing some time/volume training, 40min max reps on a trap bar at 55% 1RM, im seeing great improvements in that output, I hope Ill see some transfer back to the rowing later.
question from a casual viewer - did they all adjust 'resistance' to like level 5 or 6 ? did they do it because it is an obligatory rule in such race? or did they do it as they chose themselves ?

They will have a standard drag factor set I imagine. You can see this on a concept2 by going through the options menu. Different machines can differ drastically on their actual settings so drag factor is far better.
I’m confused, I average 5:15 for 2000m on my profit rower. Am I really special or something isn’t right ? I’m very fit and athletic having played Professional rugby and all but no way I’m that good
Different brands use different calculations for water speed. Internationally the times/calculations from the brand 'concept' are recognized as most realistic to boats on the water, which is why they are used on virtually all events.

Also when you go for a short distance and high intensity, some of the good form will go over board. What I don't like is when someone like Ray Ng here just says, that they are all doing it wrong and doesn't even tell what exactly is bad.

Your comment sounds really ignorant. Most rowers who come close to world records are 6 ft 6+ and over 95kgs, with loads of aerobic capacity. LeBron would beat them at a running sprint or jumping, rower wins at squat, deadlift, bench pull and easily at VO2max
Yeah I don't know about watching technique is not even wavering really, there really is just one good one, but knowing how good these guys really are means sum tho

they can choose freely, most elite athletes rarely use anything below 5 or upper 7, just for exercises
usually i’m pretty sure they use a drag factor of 135, this is around 6-8 on the resistance wheel

a resistance level around 5 is similar to the resistance of an oar in the water so most athletes just stick to around that.
